This 2012 Porsche 997.2 Carrera 4S Cabriolet comes finished in Carrara White with a cabriolet roof in Black over a Sand Beige interior. It was factory-optioned with a 6-speed manual transmission, the Comfort Package, Infotainment Package, ventilated front seats, Bi-Xenon headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System, and colored Porsche-crested wheel center caps. Acquired by the seller from its original owner in 2022, this two-owner example is now being offered for auction out of Connecticut while showing approximately 69k miles on the odometer.

This example comes finished in Carrara White with a black convertible soft top. The 4S can be distinguished from other 997s by its wide Turbo-derived fenders and model-specific rear reflector strip located between the taillights. It rides on 19” Carrera S II wheels with optional colored Porsche-crested center caps and Michelin Pilot Sport tires from 2017. Slight paint imperfections are noted and the front bumper is said to have been refinished due to stone chips. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with Sand Beige standard leather with optional ventilated seats. Additional options include the Comfort Package, which adds power-adjustable seats with lumbar support, memory functions, heated seats, and auto-dimming exterior mirrors with memory, as well as the Infotainment Package which includes the BOSE Surround Sound System and Porsche Communication Management (PCM). The seller notes slight wear on the ashtray cover. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.

This second-generation 997 carries a naturally aspirated direct fuel-injected 3.8-liter flat-six engine that is capable of producing 385 HP. All four wheels are driven through a sought-after 6-speed manual transmission which allows this 4S to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in approximately 4.5 seconds. In addition to boasting a 40 HP increase over the standard Carrera, the 4S features Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard as well as larger brakes distinguished by red-painted calipers. A recent oil and filter change was carried out by Porsche of Danbury, Connecticut, & the CARFAX report shows a total of 11 service history records dating back to 2013.

This sale will include a clean title, two keys, owner’s manuals, sales literature, a window sticker, a toolkit, a compressor, and a tire repair kit.

The seller would like you to know: “I am proud to offer this wonderful car to other PCar junkies. I bought this car a couple of years ago as a 20-year anniversary gift for my wife. She loved the gesture but made it clear that she thought it was not a good fit for her. She enjoyed the 2003 Saab manual convertible that she drove since 2005. She gave it some time to get used to it but finally made the decision to drive a convertible that she can park anywhere she wants. She will no longer need to park a mile away from the supermarket entrance to avoid door dings. Now, about the car. I purchased this car from an elderly woman in her eighties who was the original owner. No joke! She lived in an upscale gated community in Rye NY. She also had a home in Florida which she used the Porsche to travel back and forth. These trips from her northern garage to her southern garage helped accumulate the bulk of the mileage. She had it serviced at the dealer. Pics of service records are included. This was not her first Porsche. She told me that her father bought her a Porsche when she was young and has always had a Porsche after that. The reason she sold me this car was because she had ordered a new 911 and was about to take delivery. The paint is original and has a few minor flaws that I have pointed out in a walk-around video. Most will be difficult to see. The only part of the car that has been repainted is the front bumper cover due to stone chips. It was removed, painted professionally, and reinstalled. This was taken care of by the prior owner. There are scrape marks in the paint under the front bumper where the prior owner must have gotten a bit too close to parking lot blocks. You can see them in the video that was made by the Porsche technician during an oil change/ inspection on 7/15/2023. He notes that the front brakes measure 6 mil and rear 8 mil. Rear tires 2.5 mil, front tires 3.5 mil. I have not had to do anything other than this service in the 3000 miles that we have had the pleasure of driving. The car was super clean when we bought it. It was not difficult for my detailer to do his complete detail last week which included removing the wheels to clean the inside of each rim. Pics of the brakes and suspension were taken at that time.”

@Crashklein I apologize if this question has been asked and answered but do you know why the front and rear bumper have been painted? Did it happen during your ownership or the previous owner's? The front bumper I am not 100% sure if it's been painted but by the look of the left side grill, seems like there is overpainting on the frame of the grill. The rear bumper has paint on top of the right exhaust pipes. Any other area that might have been repainted? Thanks in advance.

  • Crashklein (seller) 9 months, 1 weekago

@Aquaboy2u look at the tread in the pics. You will see They do not need to be replaced yet. These are a soft compound summer tire so they don’t last as long as an all weather tire.

  • Aquaboy2u (registered bidder) 9 months, 1 weekago

gorgeous. I have a same color combo 2012 C4S 997.2. Check pic 97 on the listing for the VIN sticker on this car. There was a final run of 997.2s in April and may 2011 I believe, al of which were marketed by Porsche as 2012 models. 1500 of those were GTS cars for USDM. After those production runs the factory was re-fitted for 991.1 production.

  • Crashklein (seller) 9 months, 1 weekago

@BR356 a major service was done at 58k miles which included a complete inspection of the parts that you seem to be concerned about. The rotors are true and show very little wear. The brakes do not have the slightest vibration when applied. On the last service which was done one week ago, the brakes were inspected and given the thumbs up. The bump stops function perfectly with no signs of needing replacement anytime soon. Thank you for your interest.

  • Crashklein (seller) 9 months, 1 weekago

@skier as noted by IPred, you are correct in the fact that most 2012 911s are the newer 991.1 versions. This car is one of the last 997.2 911s produced. This C4S Cab is the Swan song. Thanks for your observation.

again a very nice car one I would very much like to own.........I still wish to get a handle on what may be needed from a service standpoint on this car. The list provided is helpful but not totally complete according to my mechanic. Do you have the measurement for the discs? They are to be 32 mm or better. 32 is replacement time and roughly 65K miles seems to be the time they see replacement necessary. According to my mechanic, these cars are to have a "major" service every 4 years independent of the mileage. This car would be approaching its 3rd such service. Included with that are checking to replace bump stops and associated shock boots. Any record of their condition? In addition, these cars frequently need the heat shields replaced and are usually done when the plugs are replaced because of the needed disassembly required. This being a 2012 the heat shields are probably not an issue but would have been addressed with proper "major services". These 997.2 cars are coming of age with respect to required wear replacement parts and forgive me for being cautious as they are not getting less expensive to service.

  • jpred 9 months, 1 weekago

@Crashklein I think he is saying that he has a 2012 but it is probably a 991.1. Porsche made a limited number of 2012 997.2 4s models. That is what I am guessing what he means by "previous generation".

This car is gorgeous. Color is great. Interior looks perfect. Well maintained. Hope it sells for big money. GLWS

  • Crashklein (seller) 9 months, 1 weekago

@skier I don’t understand your question. Are you saying that this 997.2 looks like a 997.1? If you would like me to inspect any specific parts, let me know. I can assure you that this is an original 2012 997.2 manual transmission car in original paint and it looks stunning.

  • Bonefish (registered bidder) 9 months, 1 weekago

I read the list of recommended maintenance. Ignore my inquiry. Publishing the list of maintenance is not very helpful. The list of maintenance performed via CarFax is very helpful.

@PhilB63 I will list the published recommended service for a 997 and also list any recommended service that I do not have a record for:

    Porsche 911 Carrera Maintenance Recommendations – 997
Annual Maintenance or Every 10K miles:

    Vehicle Inspection
    Change engine oil and filter
Update or replace maintenance items based on inspection
Add the following maintenance items to the annual service, based on the time or mileage intervals shown below:

Additional Maintenance Every 20K or 2 Years:

    Replace brake fluid
    Replace engine air intake filter
    Replace cabin pollen filter

Additional Maintenance Every 40K or 4 Years:

    Replace spark plugs
    Replace tire sealant

Additional Maintenance Every 60K or 6 years:

    Replace drive belt
    Replace PDK clutch fluid
Replace front diff controller oil (4wd)
    Clean throttle body

Additional Maintenance Every 120K or 12 years:

    Replace manual transmission oil
    Replace PDK transmission oil
    Replace front differential oil (4wd)
Early production 997 cars can be a candidate for the IMS bearing problems. Identify if your car has a serviceable bearing and plan a retrofit for a service interval.

Spark plugs were done at 58500 miles so not due again until 98500 miles

60k service Items that I do not have a record for are:
    1. Drive belt which looks to be new and feels pliable with no signs of wear or fraying. I will post pics. (new belt installed is between $200-$300.)
    2. replace front diff controller oil. Dealer charges $450
    3. Clean throttle body.On average, the cost for a Porsche 911 Clean Throttle Body is $123 with $28 for parts and $95 for labor. (FYI,This car shows no signs of needing a throttle body cleaning as there is no hesitation when accelerating)

60k service checklist also includes : Replace PDCC reservoir ,Replace drive belt , Change all-wheel drive controller oil – 911 Carrera 4 – 4-wheel drive models.....Just saying there is an expense to the 60k service not mentioned.

  • Crashklein (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

    @Yugofirst I’m available most days.

  • Crashklein (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

@BR356 thanks for your question. It is possible that I was not given every service record when I purchased the car. The service that was done at 58k looks to be pretty thorough. I looked up a 60k service and see that the transmission oil should be changed. I don’t see any mention of this happening.

  • Crashklein (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

Nice looking car........what am I missing with the 60K mile service. I see the 40K and oil changes noted as 10k service but not the 60k Porsche service. Is the paperwork just missing or has the Porsche 60K service not been done yet? I also not most were done late in with respect to the mileage noted.

  • Yugofirst (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

  • MikeC (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

I live on Long Island , is it possible to view the car in person some time before end of auction ? I can get on a ferry to Bridgeport

  • Crashklein (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

@thunderbison Yes the rear spoiler goes up and down as it should. Thanks for asking.

  • Crashklein (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

Yes the mechanic recommended new tires. The service manager said they are good for one more season. As you can see in the pics, they still have a good amount of meat left. I did not think to ask for a DME report when I had the service done. I had to wait two weeks to get that appointment so I don’t know how I could get one before the auction ends. I know that neither myself or my wife ever got close to redline. I also would find it hard to believe that the 85 year old woman that owned it before us would have done so either. There are absolutely no leaks anywhere. As you can see in the pics of the bottom of the engine, there are no stains or signs of leaks.
I will check the spoiler functionality tonight and answer that question asap.

  • thunderbison (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

Is the rear spoiler fully functional? Latest service records indicate tire replacement needed? Do you have, or can you get a DME over-rev report? Any leaks or other known mechanical issues?

  • Crashklein (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

Welcome to my first time selling here at Pcar. I will be available for any questions during the auction. I decided to go with no reserve because I believe that the car will sell for market value, what ever that may be. You may enjoy looking at all the detail pics and service records. Thank you for your interest.
