The pinnacle of the 987 generation, the Cayman R offers enhanced driving dynamics with a special sport-tuned suspension, an exterior Aerokit package, and extensive weight-saving measures. This 2012 example comes finished in Carrara White over a Black interior and is optioned with a 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission, heated Sports Seats, Sport Chrono Package Plus, BOSE Surround Sound System, automatic air-conditioning, and PCM with Navigation. It was first owned in Ontario, Canada, and spent time in Florida and Missouri before being purchased by its current owner in North Carolina. This rare high-performance Cayman model is now being offered for auction with just over 15k miles on the odometer.

The Cayman R features lightweight aluminum door panels, Aerokit front splitters, and a fixed carbon fiber rear wing as well as gloss-black painted mirrors, black-framed headlights, PORSCHE stripe decals, and lightweight forged 19” Boxster Spyder wheels. This example comes finished in Carrara White and rides on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The seller describes the exterior to be in excellent condition, adding that the car has been kept indoors. The front bumper and hood are said to have been previously replaced after the bumper cover was kicked by a deer. The installations and painting were carried out by a Porsche-approved repair center. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing minor front-end damage in 2020.

Inside, the Cayman R features RS-style door panels with lightweight red pull straps and red seatbelts along with exterior color-matched trim pieces, a three-spoke SportDesign steering wheel, and a hoodless instrument cluster. This example came with optional heated Sport Seats and automatic air conditioning as well as Bi-Xenon cornering headlights, PCM 3 with Navigation, a Bluetooth receiver, Universal Audio Interface, Voice Control, the BOSE Surround Sound System, and Sport Chrono Package Plus which adds a lap timer stopwatch to the center dashboard.

A naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 330 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 7-speed PDK transmission. The optional Sport Chrono Package Plus enables the Cayman R to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in less than 5 seconds while reaching a top speed of over 170 MPH. The chassis includes a passive sports suspension lowered by 20mm compared to a standard Cayman S. The seller indicates all maintenance has been kept up to date including a major 40k-mile interval service which was completed based on the vehicle’s age.

The seller would like you to know: “Rare (1 of 500), low miles, PCA Member owned. Porsche made this limited edition lighter, lower, and more powerful. This special edition Cayman R was one of 40 shipped to the Canadian Market in 2012. The R Model is a real handling car. The doors and hood were made of lighter aluminum. The rear spoiler was made from lightweight but strong carbon fiber.  The wheels were the lightest available. Designers used red seatbelt-type material for door pulls and saved precious weight. Seat mounts were lightened. The car was lowered.  The exhaust was enhanced for 10 additional horsepower.  Less weight and more power equals more FUN behind the wheel. The only issue is very minor.  A deer caught the front bumper with his rear leg and hoof.  The owner had this small issue addressed by the only Porsche factory-certified repair center in this part of the state to “Certified” Porsche standards. The hood was painted for a perfect match.”
