The Cayman R represents the most performance-focused version of the 987 generation, with just 563 units exported to the U.S. market. This 2012 example has been extensively modified for the track, featuring a 3.8-liter 997 engine, a Getty Designs carbon front splitter and rear wing, a carbon hood and rear hatch, 3-piece Forgeline wheels, stainless steel brake lines, a Capristo exhaust system, Tarrett sway bars, adjustable GT3 lower control arms, and much more. Finished in Carrara White, this race-ready Cayman R wears a blue vinyl wrap over black upholstery with aftermarket carbon bucket seats. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Georgia.

Finished in Carrara White, this example has been wrapped in a custom blue and black vinyl livery. Exterior modifications include front dive planes, a Getty Designs 3-piece front carbon splitter & RS-style rear wing, and a carbon fiber hood & rear hatch. A set of Forgeline 3-piece 18” wheels in matte black are mounted with new-condition tires from 2023. The seller notes normal signs of road-going wear, some surface cracks on the rear wing, and scrapes on the front hood from a 30-mph deer incident. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report indicating minor damage in 2019. The original hood, rear wing, and rear hatch are said to accompany the sale along with an extra set of 18” Forgeline wheels with Pirelli P-Zero racing tires.

Inside, the Cayman R features RS-style door panels with lightweight red pull straps and matching seatbelts along with exterior color-matched trim pieces, a three-spoke SportDesign steering wheel, and a hoodless instrument cluster. With Black standard leather and Alcantara upholstery, this cabin has been modified with carbon fiber bucket seats, 6-point safety harnesses, a partial roll cage, and an AiM Solo II device with a SmartyCam. Minor scratches on painted surfaces and normal wear on the seats are noted.

Power comes from a 3.8-liter flat-six engine derived from a 997 Carrera 4S, installed in May 2013. The rear wheels are driven through a 7-speed PDK transmission rebuilt by Euro Transmissions in Cumming, Georgia. Performance-focused enhancements also include Pagid RS29 front brake pads, Fedoro DS2500 rear brake pads, Girodisc rotors, stainless steel brake lines, adjustable GT3 lower control arms, Tarrett sway bars, adjustable sway bar end links, and recently rebuilt JRZ RS Pro suspension with remote shocks. The seller adds that a complete service by ACI Motorsports was completed before attending each track event, and other services were performed by Hennessy Porsche North Atlanta.

This sale will include a clean title, a set of 18” Forgeline wheels with Pirelli P-Zero racing tires, an additional set of used Pirelli P-Zero racing slicks, and the original hood, rear wing, and rear hatch.

The seller would like you to know: “Glad you have taken the time to visit the auction. It's a very fun car to drive. It's also an easy car to drive as the Cayman platform is very compliant. I have the original front hood and the rear hatch as well as a few other original parts.”

FYI to the new buyer...since this car came from the factory with PCCB brakes, the hubs (knuckles) are different from standard Cayman R. Cars with factory-equipped PCCB brakes used the GT3 hubs.

  • Johnnyo (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

    What other stock parts available?

  • Onlinebroker71 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Road Atlanta 1:36 o. Pirelli scrub slicks
Barber 1:39 on pirelli scrub slicks

  • bldn10 1 month, 2 weeksago

"I live near Road Atlanta and have many days there. Same thing for Barber. "
    So what lap times?

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Car would not pass GA emissions. Doesn’t have Cats. It’s registered in a county that doesn’t require.
PDK work was done by European Transmission in Cumming GA check their website. Supposed to be better than OEM. No guarantee that I know of.

  • Peteweiss (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Was PDK rebuild to OEM specs using OEM parts? Or is it custom in some way.
With rebuild in 2023, is there any guarantee on the PDK?

  • Peteweiss (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Does this car pass emissions in GA?

    Have some more information.
Seats in the car are factory Lightweight Carbon Bucket seats for Cayman R. I think this option was about $10K

  • andrew7049lee (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@seller thanks for the info. Looking forward to where this auction goes.

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Andrew, I don't have the information on the seats or who built the roll bar. It is a half cage. As I never used the car for club racing or time trials, I just can't answer those questions.

  • andrew7049lee (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Who fabricated the roll bar? And is the aftermarket buckets FIA certified or safety rated?

Looks like a lot of work went into the car. I am really curious what the end state of the build was as I am not sure where it would fit in with club racing or even time trials.

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

The car is not set up for racing and I don't believe it has run in any. It was run in DE events.

  • andrew7049lee (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

What class was this run in? Any organization log books available? Are all the safety items still valid?

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

I don't have dyno information. I had been told close to 400 HP but I never saw anything proving that. The engine spec is 385 HP and I think that's a better assumption. I live near Road Atlanta and have many days there. Same thing for Barber. Weather is nice here, so it's driving season again!

  • bldn10 1 month, 2 weeksago

Engine not dyno'd? How about times at Road Atlanta and Barber? I had a 987.1 w/ 3.8 X51 and it was a great car.

  • Robrock 1 month, 2 weeksago

Bid in the amount of $16,000

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Mileage when engine swap was made can only be guessed . 10,000?. We have not done a compression leak test on the engine. It is running well. I drove the car on the street and on the track. I don't know the hours of track or road usage prior to my ownership. For me, I would guess about 2/3 time was on track.

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Barney4 - I do not have the original engine.

  • Barney4 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Quick question, do you still have the original R engine?

  • inconel 1 month, 2 weeksago

Bid in the amount of $1,987

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Standard 987.2 Cayman R yellow PCCB calipers and Cayman R hubs.
Girodisc PCCB to Iron disc conversion + race pads.
Car has tarrett engineering caliper studs installed to prevent threads pulling out during brake pad changes.

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.

  • zachlangan (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Looks like GT3 brake calipers front and rear. Was this done via GT3 hub (knuckle) swap?

  • audipwr1 1 month, 3 weeksago

Bid in the amount of $987

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Engine swap was done by Chris Smith Racing. I'll look through receipts to see the date and from there I can estimate the mileage. PDK rebuild was done by European Transmissions in Cumming GA. PDK failed (would not shift). I will look up mileage for rebuild. This was done in about May 2023.

  • Davearm127 (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

How many miles on the motor and since the PDK rebuilt. Why was the PDK rebuilt and what exactly was done. Receipt for the work. Who did the 3.8 swap.
    Thanks

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

The paint under the wrap has blemishes from road and track. The hood is black carbon fiber as well as the rear hatch. The PDK is from the factory and has the cooling from Porsche.

  • jcindric (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

How is the white paint? Is there a pdk cooler installed? What is reserve?

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

To my knowledge car was used in DE and driven as it has always had license plates.

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Came originally with PDK. Swap to 3.8L was made by prior owner.

  • jcindric (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Pdk in R? Why was 3.8installed? Was it only used in DE?

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Air bags are working. Just checked by Porsche dealership.

  • MJM111 (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

It is street legal. Should be about 385HP
No cats, so likely won’t pass an emissions test

  • Peteweiss (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

    Cool build!
    - so about 350hp?
    - license plate is on it: street legal? Passes smog?
    -airbags functioning?
