The pinnacle of the 987 generation, the Cayman R offers enhanced driving dynamics with a special sport-tuned suspension, an exterior Aerokit package, and extensive weight-saving measures. This Cayman R comes finished in Peridot Metallic over Black standard leather upholstery and features a 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission, painted Sports Seat backrests, painted headlamp cleaning covers, Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering, the Bose Surround Sound System, automatic air conditioning, and more. Showing just over 61k miles on the odometer, this Cayman R is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Georgia.

The Cayman R features lightweight aluminum door panels, Aerokit front splitters, and a fixed carbon fiber rear wing as well as gloss-black painted mirrors, black-framed headlights, PORSCHE stripe decals, and lightweight forged 19” Boxster Spyder wheels. This example comes finished in the Cayman R's debut color of Peridot Metallic shade and features optional painted headlamp cleaning system covers, Black-painted wheels, and Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering. It rides on Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires from March 2021. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report.

Inside, the Cayman R features RS-style door panels with lightweight red pull straps and red seatbelts along with exterior color-matched trim pieces, a three-spoke SportDesign steering wheel, and a hoodless instrument cluster. Equipped with Black standard leather upholstery, this example offers optional Sport Seats with body-color backrests. Other options include automatic air conditioning, automatically dimming mirrors, a cup holder, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with Navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, SiriusXM radio, and a universal audio interface. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.

A naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 330 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 7-speed PDK transmission. The optional Sport Chrono Package Plus enables the Cayman R to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in less than 5 seconds while reaching a top speed of over 170 MPH. The chassis includes a passive sports suspension lowered by 20mm compared to a standard Cayman S. Sport and Sport Plus driving modes are said to have been retrofitted by an authorized dealer. The seller adds that the PDK transmission was serviced in the fall of 2023, a 60k-mile maintenance was performed, and the TPMS was replaced in November 2023. The oil is said to have been changed on an annual basis, as it has been driven approximately 2k miles per year by the current owner. The last oil change was completed in the fall of 2023.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and an air pump.

The seller would like you to know: “Thanks to everyone looking at my Cayman R. I just bought a Paint to Sample 2023 GT4 and don't have room to keep another car. Always covered, never smoked in. Nothing modified. This is a very fun car. I have had 13 cars by Ferrari and 13 by Porsche, and it feels right at home. The funny thing is I told everyone that if I had to choose between the Cayman R and the Turbo S, which would I keep? I have already sold the turbo s. The Cayman R was much more of an experience than the Turbo S. The big Turbo S was as fast as a starship but did not involve the driver. The Cayman R  sounds better, and the flat 6 sounds so much better. The involvement is just right for a fun drive. It drives where you point the car. The mid-engine is perfect, and the wheelbase is just right.”

@JD308, good luck with the auction today and I hope you get the price you have your reserve set at .
In my opinion, even if you don't sell your beautiful and extremely unique color Cayman R today, I would take it as a positive situation for now, because if you can hang on to her just a few more short years then you'll be thanking yourself for keeping this one only 113 Peridot green Cayman Rs that set the standard for Porsche to offer the color on other models from 2012 onward!

Another important fact about the Cayman R in general, is that although many people overlook this, but Porsche finally decided to finish the 987.2 generation with a very special model (over the already brilliant Cayman S), so they came up with a hint of what to expect in the future years for the Cayman models that we saw in 2016, the GT4 .

  • JD308 (seller) 8 monthsago

The Flat Six is such a strong engine. I hardly ever put Oil in the car. I only use about 1/2 quart a year. The peridot metallic is crazy beautiful in the sun. Just the color alone will make the car stand out 100 years from now.
You won't hurt my feelings to bid many times today. Remember many of these have been track modified. This one has not had an exhaust exchange, not lowering springs etc.
Good luck and have fun. Someone will be one of only 113 people in the United States to own a Peridot Metallic Cayman R. you will have a blast if you want to drive it daily, that is also not a problem or if you just want to knock people out at the next Car show. Most have never seen a Cayman R in the flesh.

  • JD308 (seller) 8 monthsago

@TransaxleJoe It still has the Sport and Sport Plus. Many did not come with this. I would not own the car without the Sport and Sport Plus.

  • Sbani123 (registered bidder) 8 monthsago

This a beautiful car. I just bought one this color 5 months ago, and love it!
Wonder if I should have two? Hmmm. 🤔

  • TransaxleJoe (registered bidder) 8 monthsago

Its really to bad this doesn’t have the sports crono option, you would think all of Rs would be, since these are the top spec. Caymans. Awesome color, its my birth stone color. Nice!
    Cheers!

  • alan.hall2 (registered bidder) 8 monthsago

Thank you for posting the additional pictures of the undercarriage. Good luck with your auction.

  • JD308 (seller) 8 monthsago

Hi alan.hall 2 thanks for the request . I have some photos I just put up. It has the scrapes on the bottom part and this car is a good bit lower than the reg cayman. This car drags where my Turbo S does not . The best thing to do is get the hard plastic cover that mounts right where you see the scratches on the bottom. These are about $300. The guys at German Car Repair told me about them. That is really the only way to protect that part. But it was scraped when I bought it and it still will rub when I drive it. But not as bad as I thought. I assumed it would be crazy. But they do scrape. I am already thinking what to do when the 718 GT4 gets here. But with the GT4 , Porsche learned to make a cheap replacement as they plan on it scraping, and you just buy a new plastic front lip for about $300. So these cars just scrape. But when I drive into a cars and coffee or such event, people just swarm the car because of the color and the fact it is a R. Most have never seen in person, much less own one. What I like about the Peridot, even at 200 feet you know 100% it is a Cayman R and not just a Cayman. The other cayman R have reg colors , white, black, red, silver, and unless you really , really know, you would think that is just a cayman, big deal. But the color is like the birds in the Jungle really tell you everything you need to know. It is in fact a limited production Cayman R. There are about 113 Peridot. So that is barely over 2 per state. So in Georgia there may be 2 in this color. Maybe 3 in Tennessee. Maybe 2 in any state. Probably absolutely none in this color in Oklahoma, or Idaho. The color is a big deal on these cars. And this one you can be sure I have fixed anything that could go wrong. And always the team at German Auto Reapir in Alpharetta Ga go through the whole car. As I tell them to be darn sure to look at everything, and if Anything shows up...... Fix It. The winner will get a great car, and well cared for. What else can you get from Porsche for less than $100,000 that is a limited edition, plus it is the first R to go on a Porsche since the original R back in the 60's. The 2014 911 50th Anniversary is a limited edition of 1963 , and these are still pushing over $140,000. Once you get the cayman R you will be proud of what you have and go to any car show and have the die hard Porsche owner and other cars people ask you all sorts of questions. Everyone says "I wish I had not sold mine, or I wish I had bought one".
    Have fun and good luck.

As the seller had already mentioned, the Perido green color Cayman R, is extremely rare and almost never offered for sale.
Also, Peridot Green happened to be Porsche's own LAUNCH color for the Cayman R, in 2012 and 1 year, only !
I hope the seller gets the top dollar for his beautiful and well maintained Cayman R and good luck to the potential highest bidder, as well.

PCA(Porsche Club of America) for the April issue of their Panorama (monthly magazine) that should be out in their members mail boxes soon, will the exact Perido green Cayman R written about that will bring a lot more attention to the Cayman R in general, but the rare Perido green (5 bucket paint) will always be the sweetheart of all Cayman R s for the future Porsche collectors!

@noahkl I like the way it is on the back of the seats. I got a PTS called Meissen. It was one of the first blue colors used in 1955 on the 356. It pre-dates Gulf Blue by about 10 years.

  • noahkl (registered bidder) 8 monthsago

Love me some Peridot! Looks fantastic especially w/ seat backs & interior match. btw what color did you PTS order the '23?

My Cayenne GTS is the same color. I like it. My Cayman S is my track car currently, but this would be more fun. And towing a Peridot Metallic Cayman to the track with my Peridot Metallic Cayenne would look super cool!

  • JD308 (seller) 8 monthsago

@djrober thanks for the question. There are no leaks or anything. I am overly protective of all my Cars. If there is even a chance for something to go wrong it is addressed immediately. I won't own a car that is not 100% operating. I use to change out the ECU on the Ferrari before they had a chance to leave me stranded. I guess I over spend on car maintenance. But I cannot afford to be stranded by a car that will not run.

  • djrober (registered bidder) 8 monthsago

Beautiful car. Does it have any oil or other fluid leaks? Thank you.

  • JD308 (seller) 8 monthsago

Be sure to watch the Magnus Walker video he did on the Cayman R. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOKDDyHqses

  • JD308 (seller) 8 monthsago

Please look at all the paperwork that comes with the car. I just now was able to upload all the photos.
Don't miss a chance to buy a rare Porsche. I assume if you are looking at the car, you know about it. The Peridot Metallic was developed by Porsche only for the Cayman R. Rennbow and is listed as five paint buckets, meaning "Unicorn" is rare. Only about 113 are known in America. Total Cayman R's in America is estimated to be about 563. Out of 320 Million and 100,000 Porsche owners, you can be one of only 113 people in the US to own a true factory Peridot Metallic. Usually, things this limited to are over $160,000 and way up from there.
Have fun. ask questions, and bid all you want to. Let me know if I can help in any way. Flat 6 is so nice.

You can be sure you are getting a well-kept car. I don't buy anything that is broken or has a mystery.

  • JD308 (seller) 8 monthsago

I have a stack of paperwork on the car going back to 2013. I have owned it almost 3 years. For some reason the stack of papers did not make it on the ad.

  • JD308 (seller) 8 monthsago

@julios1234 It was a massive deal, they had to order pan from Germany. It was a 7 hour job. But if you don't get it done you could look at a $20,000 bill if the PDK goes out. The service was about $1,200. It is really done on time. Most say between 10 -11 years. So if you buy one make sure this service is already done. I would say most have not done the PDK Service. But I always keep every thing I have up to date on services. Thanks.

  • julios1234 (registered bidder) 8 monthsago

Hello seller. Car looks fantastic! Curious as to what entails the PDK 60 thousand service you got done? Did it include the lower pan filter replacement or was just the new PDK oil replacement / both? Thank you.

  • JD308 (seller) 8 monthsago

Hello everyone. Thanks for looking at the Cayman R. Let me know if you have any questions at all. I have had everything done to the car, all services. I just bought a Paint To Sample GT4, and need room for it. There is not a single thing torn up on the car. I have owned it for 3 years, and if something weird was going to happen, I think it would have popped up by now. Have fun and good luck.
