We are pleased to present this rare 2012 Cayman R factory press car.  Introduced in 2011, the Cayman R appealed to track-oriented driving enthusiasts that demanded pure, unadulterated performance.  After fulfilling its promotional duties in Salt Lake City, this Cayman R was sold to its first owner in Northern California before being purchased by its current owner in the Northeast.  Reportedly one of less than fifty iconic launch-spec examples delivered to the United States, this is a true collector’s car.  Now showing approximately 30k miles on the odometer, this stunning Cayman R is being offered for auction in great overall condition by its seller in Massachusetts.

This example is finished in signature Peridot Metallic Green, a unique color that was offered one year only exclusively for the Cayman R.  This R features a standard aero kit, fixed rear spoiler, and lightweight gloss black 19-inch wheels that are derived from the Boxster Spyder.  Factory Porsche graphics along the bottoms of the lightweight aluminum doors pay homage to Porsche’s historic racing cars while helping to distinguish this from a standard Cayman.  All paint is said to be fully original and in great shape with the only flaw being typical road wear.

This Cayman R sports a lightweight black interior with Alcantara accents and green trimming throughout.  This interior is stated to be in excellent condition, free of any unsightly flaws or imperfections.  As a press car this Cayman comes with all the promotional weight cutting options including A/C and radio delete, however, a separate radio will be included in the sale.  Standard lightweight equipment includes cloth door pulls and carbon fiber bucket seats.  Accompanied by an $81,685 original window sticker, this Cayman R boasts the following factory options:

  • Carbon Ceramic Brakes (PCCB)
  • Sound Package Plus w/ Storage
  • Cup Holder
  • Sport Chrono Package
  • CDR-30 Audio System
  • Sports Exhaust System
  • Preparation for Radio

In addition to weighing around 120 pounds less than the Cayman S, the R produces 10 more horsepower from its naturally aspirated flat-six engine for a total output of 330HP.  Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a crisp 6-speed manual transmission while the Sport Exhaust system makes for an incredible soundtrack.  The Cayman R features significant aerodynamic improvements, a lower center of gravity and a modified chassis with reduced roll-angle gradient.  This car remains bone stock with the exception of a factory third radiator that was added to improve cooling during track day driving events.  Up-to-date on all due service, this Cayman R is being offered in solid, ready-to-drive condition with complete records on hand.

The sale of this remarkable Cayman R will include full documentation, original owner’s books, and the original window sticker outlining this as a “press vehicle”.  Also included will be a clean Carfax report as well as a clear title in the seller’s name.  With less than fifty of these quintessential launch-spec models in the U.S., this represents one of the most special Caymans on the market.

These are wonderful track day cars. So much more rewarding than most everything out there in this price range. Great spec. The lack of a/c makes it a bit limited in hotter climates, but perfect for that hardcore Porsche lover. This is a future collectible. GLWA.

@KaiOhu I've never had to pull any diagnostics reports. The car was used at PCA drivers education events so over revs would be expected. The car completed a full Porsche service at 30k and I asked them to go through the car. I'm more than happy to coordinate a PPI - I'm very proud of the car.

@cdegrace thank you for clarification. I guess I misunderstood from previous owner, I thought he was second private owner.

Beautiful and rare car either way!

To answer the question about ownership, the car was brought into the USA as a Press Car in Utah (listed in the build sheet) and the first owner in California purchased the car as CPO. He had it at Shift Bespoke on consignment (he was moving at the time and also received delivery of a GT4) where I saw it and purchased it from the original owner. I am the car's second owner. Carfax details attached.

    Always loved the Peridot R!

Trying to sort through this one as I've seen this car for sale for some time. In 2017 someone was selling who claimed to be the second owner in California, he bought it with 10k miles on it CPO allegedly. Last I had heard, this car sold from Shift Bespoke some months ago.

    Curious on the ownership history.

Either way, super rare and had I not just purchased another car, I'd be watching very, very closely. I tried to buy this car from Shift last year but the price just wasn't right for me
