Now available for auction is this 2016 Porsche 981 Cayman GT4 Clubsport finished in white over a lightweight racing interior.  Based on the successful road-going Cayman GT4 model, the Clubsport was introduced as a purpose-built racing variant with a comprehensive list of performance upgrades and safety features.  Having never been used for its intended racing series, this 2016 example had been driven primarily as an exhibition car while accumulating 1,600 miles in total, about only half of which were driven on the track.  Highlighting some additional upgrades and said to be in superb overall condition, this GT4 Clubsport offers the perfect opportunity for a dedicated motorsports enthusiasts.

Having had protective film applied over the full exterior during its entire life, the white finish on this GT4 is said to be in excellent condition.  A collection of detailed images is provided in the photo gallery.  The protective film has been recently removed, and the seller notes that APR wing uprights have been installed.  Noteworthy features include hood and trunk safety pins as well as an adjustable rear wing.  This GT4 rides on its factory 18” forged aluminum Clubsport wheels which come dressed in slick Pirelli racing tires.  An additional set of factory wheels wrapped in never used Michelin tires will also be included.

Inside, you will find a lightweight racing cockpit which is said to remain like-new.  Factory equipment includes an FIA welded-in cage, FireSafe FIA electronic fire suppression, an emergency “kill” switch and an OMP racing bucket seat with a Schroth 6-point harness.  Modifications include a Pro Level F.A.S.T. cool suit system as well as an added OMP HTE-R XL RFG passenger race seat with sliders and a safety harness.

Power comes from a 3.8 L dry-sump flat-six engine which is mated to a 6-speed PDK racing transmission with a locking differential.  385 HP is sent to the rear wheels making for a 0-60 time of approximately 3.8 seconds and a top speed north of 180 MPH.  Factory performance features include:

  • Performance Friction (PFC) Brakes
  • Adjustable Bosch 12-Step Porsche Motorsport ABS Module
  • 911 GT3 Cup-derived Suspension
  • 70-Liter FT3 Fuel Cell
  • Krontec Air Jack System with Originally Supplied Wand and Jacks (never used)

The suspension has been upgraded with MCS 2WNR double-adjustable dampers and the originally supplied “Spare Parts Package” also includes additional brake pads and rotors.  Having never been subjected to competitive racing, this Clubsport is reported to have been used primarily as an exhibition car for the benefit of the Leukemia Foundation.  This GT4 shows approximately 1600 miles on the odometer, of which only half are said to have been driven on the track (20 hours).  Offered with a complete history of service, this GT4 is stated to be in exemplary running order.

The sale of the Clubsport will include original books and documentation, a set of two keys and complete service records from new.  Do not miss out on this incredible opportunity to take your performance driving skills to the next level.

@Bhf_clt Thanks for clarifying your experience with the auction. I was able to inquire at PCARMARKET to see what they experienced. They investigated the bids and the clock. There were no glitches on their end. They have been very transparent with the logs and how the bids will reset the clock every two minutes to continue extending the auction. I’m informed the inability to place a bid is very rare and occurs most commonly due to bidder hardware, software and human error. James recently addressed these issues on the PCARMARKET podcast. It’s disappointing to a buyer and a seller when the clock runs out. We want to keep the bidding going! I’m not sure what happened in this case but I appreciate the transparency of all parties. Keep your finger on the bid button and good luck for the future.

@GT3FZS I'll need you to contact me regarding the auction.

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Bhf_clt I’d like to get specific details from your bidding and cross check it with PCAR processing. I understand you were bidding immediately after the clock set 2 minutes. Is that correct? I will request to see the bidding logs with The auctioneer. You can reach me.

  • Bhf_clt (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@MattShaw Glad to hear you’re digging into it since you are ultimately on the losing end of this. Please keep us posted as all of us rely on the integrity of the process.

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Bhf_clt Sounds like glitch. Its very suspicious I get a call from PCAR to pull the reserve and then the auction is over While its on the way up! BTW, it did not hit the original reserve. I will not finalize the transaction until I get the the bottom of the issue. Thanks for your bids and persistence.

  • Bhf_clt (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@MattShaw It wasn't my internet. I had two separate screens going - one with a hard line and the other with a cell connection. Both were synched within a few seconds. If something can be monkeyed with that changes things in the middle of an auction, that should be disclosed. PCAR has been hitting me up to list my '19 RS on here, but that's not happening. Congrats on the sale, but you definitely missed out on additional sales proceeds.

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Bhf_clt It’s happened to me because my internet was too slow. I’d like to see it bid up but time was pushing out he auction. I lifted the reserve at the very end. Sorry for both of us.

  • Bhf_clt (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@MattShaw And on my screen, JGoldman's bid went in with about two seconds left on the counter.

  • Bhf_clt (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@MattShaw Ummm, no. I was trying to bid during entire 2-minute period after JGoldman's bid.

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Counter bid did not hit in time. Bid at last second and did not process in time.

  • Bhf_clt (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@GT3FZS Thanks - definitely not good.

  • GT3FZS 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Bhf_clt Sorry to read this....hope it can be worked out.

  • Bhf_clt (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@GT3FZS I haven't. I tried to up my bid immediately after JGoldman entered his bid - within about 15 seconds and tried for the next 1:45. The clock was still running but I got the message "This auction has ended." Seller should be upset with this.

  • GT3FZS 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Bhf_clt Did you get an answer to this?

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@dwells1960 thanks for the inquiry. The suspension was modified because 100% of the Clubsports had the KW’s removed and revalved or had an adjustable suspension installed.

Since this car was not raced and just mostly used for exhibitions, why was it modified (suspension, wing uprights, etc.)?

  • Bhf_clt (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

    @MattShaw Got it, thanks.

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Bhf_clt With regard to service it is per the PMNA Clubsport service manual which is too extensive to list here but it includes all fluids replaced except PDK (not due yet) and all systems inspection. This CS gets Motul 8100 5W40 after every event and SRF brake flush after every track day. That’s pretty standard for Cup and CS. I own a race shop and we miss nothing. Our cars do not have the option to mechanically DNF and safety is #1 when race cars are driven at the limit! Service is considered cheap safety insurance.

The PPF was removed because the LLS Foundation graphics were under the PPF. It would be inappropriate to list the CS with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Graphics and Annie Rose Poker Run since is it a family foundation. In retrospect we should have put the graphics on top of the PPF. We live and learn. Thanks for the inquiry.

  • Bhf_clt (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

    A few follow-up questions
    - Why was the PPF removed?
    - Can you give a brief run-down of service completed?

  • Bhf_clt 3 years, 8 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $95,000

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Racerrs There is no data acquisition from PMNA and there was none added to this car. Portable OBDII Solo DL was used for video and data but does not go with the CS. Thank you for your inquiry.

  • Racerrs (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Ok, Motec system or AIM camera included? I don’t see them in the photos? Thx

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Racerrs This is not an MR car. No off’s, no wrecks. The shocks and springs were upgraded double adjustable MCS from the non-adjustable KW’s. The KW’s have been preserved and go with the CS. I have the 100 cell cats which came on the car from PMNA and the optional gutless cats. All spares (wheels, PFC rotors and PFC pads) come with the car as packaged new from PMNA. Krontec jack stands and air wand also included as it was delivered (never used) from PMNA.

  • Racerrs (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Is the Motec Data and camera system included with the car? Is this a MR car with carbon fiber doors and hood? Is the suspension Upgraded from factory? Has there been any off track incidence that required replacement parts? Thanks

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@RennGT Thanks Josh. Appreciate your comments. My goal is to properly inform bidders of they are buying. We should all buy relative to condition, right? PCARMARKET does a good job to provide as much information as possible. I’ve sold several cars here and sellers work their butts off. Thanks again for your comments.

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@racer919 This Clubsport is ready for inspection and I’m delighted to show it to prospective buyers.

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@Midmich60 Clubsports are all Euro VIN and not DOT approved. Its possible to achieve street use but it would be the same as legalizing a Cup Car! Clubsport is much easier to drive and maintain than GT3 Cup.

  • RennGT (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Buy with confidence. Awesome seller with a great reputation, quality cars, and integrity. GLWS, Matt!

Seller, is this car road legal or track only ?

  • Bhf_clt (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

How deep are the paint dings and how did they get there? Any offs?

  • MattShaw (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Thank you for starting the bidding. Let me know if you have any questions. This Clubsport is the first generation Manthey Racing (same company that produces the 991 GT3 Cup) GT4. The Clubsport shares the same Performance Friction brakes and lightweight suspension strut front axle found on the Porsche 991 GT3 Cup. Its ABS is adjustable in 12 steps and it uses a torque vectoring race version of the PDK unique to the Clubsport. This is one of the few Clubsports that has not been raced, wrecked or otherwise molested. Thanks again for the views and bidding.
