Launched in partnership with SRO Motorsports Group in 2019, the Saleen Cup single-model racing series was created to demonstrate the performance capabilities of the brand’s road-going S1 sports car. This 2019 example is a factory-built Saleen S1 Cup race car featuring a lightweight aluminum and carbon fiber structure underpinned by a Saleen-tuned GM Ecotec 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 450 HP. It comes equipped with a Holinger Engineering 6-speed sequential manual gearbox, fully adjustable Öhlins shocks, TM Performance racing brakes, a RaceGrade multifunction steering wheel with an integrated display, and full FIA racing safety equipment. After a successful campaign in the Saleen Cup series, this S1 was acquired by the seller and has been used primarily for display purposes as well as occasional track outings. Serviced by Saleen in Corona, CA, in December of 2022 with no track time since, this S1 Cup car is now being offered for auction out of Iowa.
A total of 20 factory-built S1 Cup race cars were produced featuring a lightweight aluminum and carbon fiber structure with high-downforce bodywork incorporating a large front splitter, vented fenders, a rear diffuser, and a fixed swan neck rear wing. This example wears a custom Marlboro-inspired white and red vinyl racing livery over exposed carbon fiber skin. The seller notes that the car was re-wrapped by Saleen prior to their purchase and some bubbles are present near high-heat areas. Some minor scratches are also noted on the front splitter and on the wrap near the wheel wells. The car rides on black 18” wheels dressed in Pirelli P Zero racing slicks. The seller indicates that the current tires have been used for 5 laps on a racetrack (or 1 heat cycle) and remain in good condition for the next owner. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the driver is situated in a lightweight stripped-out cockpit with a full roll cage, a bare carbon fiber dashboard, and a Sparco Circuit II bucket seat with a 6-point safety harness. Other accessories include an integrated fire suppression system, a Sparco safety net, a custom control panel, and a RaceGrade multifunction steering wheel with an integrated digital driver’s display. The seller notes that the fire extinguisher was factory-installed, the interior ballasts have been removed, and the FIA safety equipment is unexpired.
This S1 race car is equipped with a Saleen-tuned GM Ecotec 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 450 HP and 460 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a Holinger Engineering 6-speed sequential transmission. Performance features include a racing fuel cell, fully adjustable Öhlins shocks, a hydraulic close-ratio power steering rack, and TM Performance racing brakes with 6-piston calipers in front and 4-piston calipers in the rear. The seller notes engine has been tuned for 100-octane fuel as the car is currently configured for GT3-class SCCA racing, although it can be detuned back to its Saleen Cup settings if the next owner desires. A full service was performed by Saleen in December 2022 including tire changes and a braking system check. The car is said to be in race-ready condition and the seller adds that the shocks will be replaced in preparation for the sale.
This Saleen S1 is offered with owner’s manuals, some documentation, and a bill of sale.
