Available for auction is this Porsche 356A Speedster replica by JPS Motorsports.  Handcrafted in California, this Speedster was completed in 2020 featuring a 2332cc air-cooled engine connected to a Pro Street manual transmission.  The car comes finished in Black over a custom tan leather interior with a modern Bluetooth sound system.  Having seen just over 800 miles of use since completion, this freshly built Speedster replica is now being offered for auction by its original owner out of New Jersey.

This Speedster features hand-laid steel-reinforced fiberglass bodywork finished in Black with a matching retractable soft top. Optional features from JPS Motorsports include Classic Speedster side moldings, dual side mirrors, chrome door handles, LED headlamps, headlamp grilles, shotgun-style exhaust finishers, bumper guards, and the Full Emblem Package. It rides on a set of 15” 5-lug steel wheels with Porsche-crested Super Nipple hubcaps and Starfire Solarus tires.  The seller adds that the car has always been carefully looked after and garage-kept, additional images can be found in the gallery.

The cabin is trimmed in tan leather with black carpeting and features leather bucket seats, a painted dashboard, a Classic wood-rimmed steering wheel, Coco floor mats, and a Kenwood Bluetooth stereo system with dual speakers.

This Speedster derives power from an air-cooled flat-four engine custom-built to a 2332cc displacement.  A claimed output of up to 175 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a Pro Street 4-speed manual transmission with an upgraded Vintage Speed shifter.  The JPS Speedster is built upon a Volkswagen Beetle chassis and comes equipped with disc brakes at all four corners as well as an independent rear suspension.

This sale will include an owner’s manual, radio booklet, and a clean title. Do not miss your chance to enjoy visceral top-down driving behind the wheel of this newly built JPS Speedster replica.

@RandR @c9c _ Happy to do it, but the car is at an offsite garage over an hour away.

  • RandR (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@mgange thanks for the response. A couple of pics of undercarriage would verify. Your car was a Brazilian build which is why it had an MSO with the year it was built versus most VW pan builds that are titled as the year VW pan used. I have owned both so I am relatively knowledgeable but very possible I am wrong on this one...just hard to tell without undercarriage pics. You could shoot quick pic laying along side f the car and painting your camera along the floors. Thanks again.

  • mgange (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@RandR @c9c - I'm sure - there isn't a tubular chassis - NJ MVC titled and registered the car with JPS VIN plate #.

  • mgange (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@howard0490 - The top has been down for quite some time. The wrinkles you're seeing is a result of being folded down. The top is as new, is tight and fits as it should.

  • RandR (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@mgange are you sure this is built on a VW pan? Typically the JPS cars built in Brazil as yours appears to be are built on tubular chassis. When built on VW pan pretty certain they are then titled as VW using the vin# stamped on the pan. No pics of undercarriage so hard to verify. Thanks

  • howard0490 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Is the Soft top fully tightened? it appears uneven over the windshield and wrinkled on the sides and at the rear window.

  • mgange (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

We're coming down to the last 4 hours of the auction and I want to thank everyone for their comments, questions, and most importantly their bids. Looking forward to see who will get this perfect speedster. Great time of year for these cars here in the Northeast. And thank you PCAR. This is my first experience and I appreciate the support/ guidance. It's been fun watching the activity. Best of luck to you bidders.

Beautiful car. That paint work really stands out.

  • mgange (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@DPommery - NJ MVC sure doesn't make it easy. They have a specific process. Contact NJ MVC Foreign Title unit in Trenton. They'll send you a package with required doc's including MSO, BOS, and pictures of the car and VIN plate. Mail the package to Trenton. Once they approve the build, they'll send you an approval letter to get the car inspected. Then you'll have to take schedule the car for physical inspection at one 1 of 3 NJ MVC inspection facilities (Asbury Park, Westfield or Winslow). After inspection, they'll give you the doc's needed to get a title and registration from yet a different NJ MVC facility. You're dealing with MVC, so expect this process to take upwards of 60-90 days.

@replicaspeedster.com thanks Troy. Yes it could be more complicated since it is titled in another state already. I take my cars to Auto Club to get registered. They are a lot more pliable than a DMV inspector.

  • replicaspeedster.com (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@MikeM55 Just to clarify your comment with regard to the California DMV. All cars being brought into California from out of state will require a VIN inspection by the California Highway Patrol or a DMV certified VIN inspector. The VIN inspector will verify that the VIN number shown on the title is the same as the VIN number on the car. They will also verify that the year, make and model on the title matches the car. If the title says it's a 1976 or later model they will require a smog test. If the title says the car is a VW, but the inspector doesn't agree because it looks like a Porsche the inspector may refuse to verify the car. If that happens the DMV will require the owner to register the car as a Special Construction under the SB 100 process. The same thing can happen if the title shows a make of anything other than a VW.

@Davenorcal I have a 2019 JPS in California and registration was no problem. Mine is registered as a 1970 VW. Since this is on a VW chassis, the California DMV will look at this as a VW, with the year the original chassis.

Just FYI JPS also options a tube chassis. Those need to be registered as a special build with the year of production. Very difficult!!

You will have no problem with this one.

@Davenorcal - no, never registered in CA. I'm the first owner. JPS provided me the MSO for titling and registration.

  • mgange (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

    @Davenorcal - 5 lug hubs
It was built and purchased from CA as a 2020.

  • Davenorcal (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

Anyone care to comment on what they think the California DMV would require with this car being registered/titled as a 2020 model year?

  • Davenorcal (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@mgrange: can you explain the wheel bolt spacing and the brakes. Pictures of the wheels off would be great addition to your gallery.
