Introduced as the successor to the 650S in McLaren’s Super Series model line in 2017, the 720S was built on a stiffer and lighter carbon monocoque chassis than its predecessor and included a new ProActive Chassis Control II active suspension system as well as a new twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 710 HP. This 2020 example is a 720S Spider finished in Storm Grey over a Black and Carmine Red interior. It was configured at an original sticker price of over $379k including the Performance trim package, Carbon Fiber Exterior Upgrade Packs 1 & 2, the Stealth Pack, Sports Exhaust, carbon ceramic brakes with red calipers, 5 Twin-Spoke Lightweight Forged wheels, 360 Degree Park Assist, electric & heated memory seats, a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, and more. It was cared for by two prior owners and is now being offered for auction out of Arizona while showing just over 9k miles on the odometer.
The 720S uses McLaren’s carbon fiber Monocage II chassis overlaid with composite and aluminum bodywork. It features an under panel with an integrated front splitter & rear diffuser as well as dihedral doors and full LED lighting. This Spider version comes finished in Storm Grey and features Carbon Fiber Exterior Upgrade Packs 1 & 2 along with matte black accents as part of the Stealth Pack. Other options include red brake calipers, a front air intake in carbon fiber, soft close doors, parking sensors, a rearview camera, and 19”/20” 5 Twin Spoke Lightweight Forged wheels in a Satin Diamond Cut finish. New Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires were installed in May 2023. The seller notes the front end shows some signs of road-going wear and a minor crease is present at the bottom of the lower front spoiler. The cockpit is upholstered in Carbon Black Nappa leather and Alcantara with Carmine Red accents and stitching complemented by matte carbon fiber trim. Options include a Carbon Black Alcantara steering wheel with MSO Defined carbon fiber shift paddles, electric & heated memory seats, an electric steering column, branded floor mats, a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, 360 Degree Park Assist, the Vehicle Lift system, and the Homelink System. The 720S is also equipped as standard with a portrait screen infotainment system, dual-zone automatic climate control, a folding driver display, and an active dynamic control panel.
The 720S is equipped with McLaren’s all-aluminum M840T 4.0-liter V8 DOHC engine featuring dual twin-scroll turbochargers and a dry sump lubrication system. Up to 710 HP and 568 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed McLaren dual-clutch Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG) which provides acceleration from 0-60 MPH in less than 3 seconds with a top speed of over 200 MPH. The optional Sports Exhaust is equipped and standard features include two-piece carbon ceramic brakes, independent double-wishbone suspension with ProActive Chassis Control II adaptive damping, electro-hydraulic variable-ratio power steering, an open differential with brake steer, and variable settings for the powertrain, transmission, damping, and traction control. Routine maintenance has been kept up to date with the last annual service completed in August 2023. A corresponding invoice is provided in the gallery.
