Finished in Lapis Blue Metallic over a Savannah Beige interior, this 2001 Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission as well as a removable hardtop, 17” Carrera 4 wheels, cross-drilled brakes, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, 8-way power seats, automatic climate control, and more. The car is said to have been cared for by two prior owners and was regularly serviced at the last caretaker’s specialty shop for the past 20 years. Benefitting from thorough underbody dry ice cleaning, this Carrera is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Missouri while showing approximately 42k miles on the odometer.

This 996 is finished in Lapis Blue Metallic with a Metropol Blue convertible top and a removable body-colored hardtop. Equipment includes dual exhaust outlets, a speed-activated rear spoiler, front fog lights, and Porsche-branded brake calipers mounted behind 17” Carrera 4 alloy wheels. The car rides on a set of Continental ExtremeContact measuring 205/50 in front and 255/40 in the rear. The seller notes some imperfections on the removable hardtop as well as a tear in the convertible soft top. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this 996 is appointed with Savannah Beige upholstery and matching carpets. Accessories include 8-way power-adjustable front seats in leather, driver seat position memory, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, automatic climate control, cruise control, Porsche-branded floor mats, a Becker Porsche CD stereo, and a remote 6-disc CD changer. The seller notes some signs of wear on the front seats.

A naturally aspirated 3.4-liter M96 flat-six engine delivers up to 300 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH is reached in approximately 5 seconds and stopping power comes from fixed 4-piston brakes and cross-drilled discs at each corner. The seller notes the car was extensively serviced by its previous owner and there are no outstanding maintenance items.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “With its ‘fried-egg’ headlights, this 911/996 Porsche represented a major shift in philosophy at Porsche. This 996 is the first to use a flat, water-cooled engine, abandoning the air-cooled variant Porsche used for the previous 34 years. The car has benefited from a thorough dry ice cleaning of the underbody, suspension, and engine. This example is a two-owner car that was regularly serviced by the second owner's specialty shop for the past 20 years. It is one of 27,275 Carreras made in 2001. Always garage kept with only 41,954 miles showing. Dressed in Lapis Blue with a body-colored removable hardtop, the car's paint and trim are in overall excellent order. Hardtop does have some storage blemishes and the soft top has some wear showing. The bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is tidy and the body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the body. This Porsche rolls on 17-inch Continental radials. Each one is mounted to a factory alloy wheel. The wheels are in great shape while the tires are in good, original order. Out back is a 3.4L flat, water-cooled six-cylinder engine. It generates 300 horsepower and is backed by a Getrag G96/00 six-speed manual transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors, power windows, power locks, power side-view mirrors and cruise control. An electronically adjustable rear spoiler was installed that raised at speeds over 75 mph. It could also be raised manually by means of an electric switch. Safety equipment includes dual front air bags and anti-lock brakes. Inside, the tan leather interior is overall very good condition. The leather buckets and matching carpet look great. A three-spoke steering wheel, the dashboard and inner door panels are all in very good order. The center console has a shifter and there's a factory AM/FM stereo with a compact disc player. The Type 996 introduced in 1998 represented two major changes for the venerable 911 lineage: a water-cooled flat-6 engine replaced the popular air-cooled engine used in the 911 for 34 years and the body shell received its first major re-design. Changing to a water-cooled engine was controversial with Porsche traditionalists, who noted this as the end of the 'true' 911. The 996 styling shared its front end with Porsche's mid-engine entry-level Boxster. Pinky Lai's work on the exterior won international design awards between 1997 and 2003. The Carrera variant had a 0.30 coefficient of drag. The interior was criticized for its plainness and its lack of relationship to prior 911 interiors, although this came largely from owners of older 911s. Competitors to this Porsche in 2001 included Acura's NSX, BMW's M Roadster, and Panoz's Esperante. If you're a Porsche fan, we have a 2001 Carrera Cabriolet you may be interested in viewing.

@Woodrm64 Thank you for your bid and questions. As mentioned previously, we do not have a receipt nor record for any IMS bearing replacement work, we assume it has NOT been done. The date codes for the tires are shown in the photo gallery, they are the DOT numbers. Sorry we did not decipher these codes, but assume them to be about 10 years or more since the previous owner purchased the car some 12+ years ago. There are NO known leaks on the car as we had the engine, underbody and suspension dry ice blasted and is now very clean so as to show any visible leaks or problems. The previous owner owns a restoration shop and had all maintenance done in house by his mechanics. Thus, we have no receipts for prior work performed to the Tranny mount, injectors, coils/spark plugs, coolant tank., sorry we wish we had more information for you on this. Please note the only issue we have presently found is an airbag service light on the dash which came up and did not clear with the scan tool we have in house.

The car does drive very well with no know issues.

Thank you again for your interest,
    Team MotoeXotica

This is a good looking 996. Does the car have any leaks? How about the other normal 996 maintenance items? Tranny mount, injectors, coils/spark plugs, coolant tank. Thank you.

Sorry, I did not see a comment that the IMS bearing has been changed, but there was a question about having a copy of the receipt. When was the IMS bearing changed and was it an LN Engineering replacement? Also, what are the date codes on the tires? Are there any leaks anywhere in or under the car? Thanks!
