Available for auction is a rare Porsche Carrera GT pre-production kit given to dealers prior to the offical launch of the Carrera GT in 2004. This particular kit was sent to a dealership in December of 2000 before the Carrera GT debuted at Detroit and LA Auto shows in January 2001. This early kit was used to generate interest and pre-orders within the dealership and customer base. The seller notes the letter states "Although no decision has yet been made regarding production, if sufficient demand exists, the vehicle will come to market in calendar year 2003".
This pre-delivery kit consists of a promotional book in German/English, a VHS tape of the Carrera GT, engraving instructions for the engine plaque, a highly detailed miniature engine of the V10, and a letter from PCNA. The model engine features an engraving with engine details for the prototype engine reading 5.5L. The production model ended up having a larger displacement 5.7L engine. Hello everyone. Thanks for checking out my first listing on PCarMarket.
While the contents of this kit are all but the same when compared to similar Carrera GT kits, the letter indicates that this one was produced in late 2000 when the concept was still known as the "Carrera GT Study". The letter from PCNA can be seen in photo 23 and is an interesting read considering the decision to produce the CGT had not been made yet. It would be almost 3yrs after this kit was sent that we would see the first CGT roll of the production line.
It's a given that every Carrera GT should have one of these kits as part of the documentation, but these kits are nice alternative investments as they will only increase in value as the years go by.
