1963 Porsche 356B Coupe

The Porsche 356 has always been known for its beauty and charm.  The 1963 Porsche 356B Coupe up for auction is no exception.  The car spent many years with its prior owner before he decided to trade it in for a new Porsche at Stevinson Porsche in Littleton, CO.  The car was purchased by a New York Porsche specialty shop, where it was purchased by the current owner/seller.

The 356 underwent a quality repaint in its original red color and shows very nicely. The seller states the car to be in driver-grade condition with fantastic shine and depth. The structural integrity of this 356 is close to perfect. The gaps and panels clearly confirm this to be a well-cared for and sorted car. There are no signs of rust, previous accidents or damage.

The interior of the vehicle is in original condition and shows very well. The structural integrity of the seats are completely intact and provide the driver and passenger with a comfortable driving experience.  All instruments are in working order, including a brand-new clock which has recently been installed.

It is important to note that the engine in this 356 was changed to a horizontally opposed 1600 that originally came from a Speedster and still retains its original 4-speed transmission.  This 356 is reported to be in fantastic running condition and according to the seller, sounds and performs beautifully.

@EmmetGuard appreciate the comment, anything I say would be pure speculation here. All I know is it is a fantastic little running car and is super enjoyable to drive. That is its purpose. I thought there would be value in knowing the motor came from a speedster dollar wise. Someone looking to restore a 58 would see a lot of value in this car so I in turn saw value in it. Thanks for commenting.

@Mauimike911 Yes, the dash, interior doors, under boot and bonnet should be the same color as the exterior color of the car.

@Mauimike911 I am assuming it was someones preference, not done during my ownership. Thanks.

@Lyn_collection As the speedster was built from 1954 to 1958 I am puzzled why an older 1600cc case would be used ? The best Porsche 356 cases are from the later 1964-65 C and SC motors which are the strongest and have a larger oil pump.
To me this is actually a disadvantage in building on an older platform when a better alternative was available.
Remember that a speedster had the very same motor as a 1954-58 coupe or cabriolet. There is no motor advantage that speedsters came with unless you chose a very expensive Carrera multi cam engine.

Who painted the dash? It’s typically the body color, no?

Very nice. I am yet to see a 1600 with a speedster motor swap for sale..I am not doubting that it drives exceptionally better than a stock 356

porsche enthusiasts may know this already but you can have as much fun in a 356 going 50mph as you can going 150mph in a gt3!!!

@EmmetGuard unfortunately I had had someone help me photo the car for this auciton and it would be difficult to get additional pics of these items. I have been made very confident by my mechanic that this car is extremely solid and made sure if that prior to my purchase. You are more than welcome to have an independent inspector come see it.

Looks pretty clean. I agree some floor pan pictures would help, but all in all the undercarriage pics do not turn me off at all. If you know what you’re looking at, you will realize that it really is a solid car

Porsche 356 floor pans are really made thin even when new and tend to rust from the inside out. Are there any replaced pans on the car ? More pictures would help, IMO.
It would serve you well to post pictures of what is underneath the carpets to show the condition of the interior pans.
Also the jack spurs on many of these are not strong enough to jack up the car as there is often rust in the rocker panels

    About time.for a 356!
Bravo guys for such well written and thorough write ups. I was a sceptic, but you seem to take the time to do things right.

As a member of the 356 Registry, I’m glad to see this car on Pcar. I also know the car and it’s owner. It is a reluctant sale due to a relocation into NYC from the suburbs. This is an honest car that runs beautifully. GLTA

what a freaking classic. makes me happy to see pcarmarket isn't just doing brand new or just modern 911s. this is heritage and the reason we all love Porsche so much and that 911 shape. beautiful!
