In 1976, Richard Graves purchased the car and proceeded to race in SCCA in the C-Production class. It ran this way until 1982 winning a number of required races. Around 1982-1983, the car was brought to Manny Shoosho in Chicago and upgraded to the new rules of GTU for 914’s racing in IMSA. The build sheet is included, showing all that was done back then.

From 1983-1985, the team of R.A.G. Enterprises raced full IMSA seasons. The car is in the IMSA Registry. R.A.G. is an acronym for Richard and Alice Graves as this car raced as a husband and wife race team. The car did not have any outright GTU wins; however the car completed the most laps of any GTU car for three straight IMSA seasons.

For the 1986 season, IMSA banned 914’s from racing due to a rule that prohibited cars 10 years past their production date. The car was then sold to Charles Mack. He then re-bodied the car again and competed in the GT-2 class of SCCA, and in the GT-2 championship at Road America including a win at the June Sprints. After a successful run in the SCCA run-offs, Charles retired and sold the car to an unknown person who then shortly sold it again to Jim Davis in Chicago. Mr. Davis owned the car for three years and was planning to restore it.

The seller stated that for over three years, he and Mr. Davis would run into each other at Road America where he would give suggestions on how to go through the restoration of the car. Mr. Davis decided to go in another direction with the Graves 914 project and offered the car to to the seller.  A deal was struck and the car was shipped to Arizona in 2012 where John James Racing did an extensive restoration bringing the car back to its original time period of 1983-1985 when it ran in the IMSA GTU class under the R.A.G. Enterprises livery driven by Richard and Alice Graves. The car has been accepted and successfully campaigned five times in the Rolex Monterey Historics (2018), the Brickyard, Coronado, Road America, COTA, Mid Ohio, and Laguna Seca. The car has been on the podium numerous times and is very competitive.

The newly rebuilt 2800cc motor is twin plug and at 9 hours, it comes with a new spare short gearbox and an extra set of wheels. Grassroots Motorsports magazine is doing a story on the car as we speak.

The sale will include a secondary complete rebuilt gearbox with differentials, a second set of tires and all racing records.
