Up for auction is this 1-owner 1986 928 S.  The Porsche 928 was originally intended to replace the 911, but instead, found it’s own niche as Porsche’s iconic grand tourer.  Accordingly, the S model provides a healthy boost in performance over the base model.  This 1-owner example was purchased new in 1986 through a European delivery program.  The owner spent many days in Germany with this 928 before shipping it to Hinsdale Porsche of Illinois.  The car has remained local ever since in a climate controlled garage.  It currently shows 70,000 miles on the odometer and is stated to be in excellent condition.

Finished in classic Guards Red, the paint is fully original and stated to be in excellent condition.  Only one minuscule chip is showing on the hood of this otherwise pristine exterior.  The car rides on highly desirable OEM Manhole wheels wrapped in relatively new tires.  With no exterior modifications, this car retains its original look and is sure to turn heads.

The original black leather interior is said to be in exceptional condition.  Factory interior options include: 8-way power/heated front seats, sunroof, 8-way speaker system, and limited slip differential.  An upgraded Bluetooth head unit is installed in replacement of the original Blaupunkt radio (the original radio is included with sale).

This 1986 928 S is equipped with a 5-liter 32v V8 engine.  This massive power plant is mated to an automatic transmission and is capable of producing 288HP.  This venerable engine is unmodified and runs perfectly.  The seller states that all services have been performed regularly since new, including a recent belt change and oil change.

Extensive service records will be provided with the sale along with a clean Carfax, original window sticker, all books, tools, air compressor, and keys.

Grand touring cars such as the 928 were some of the most expensive cars on the road at one point in time.  The 928’s uncanny ability to comfortably transport its passengers at high-sustained speeds set a new standard for the grand touring car.  By adding raw German horsepower to plush and decadent coupes, Porsche had blurred the line between sports car and luxury coupe.  These cars were the pinnacle of both comfort and performance and are coveted by enthusiasts to this day.

Any service records after 2013? Carfax shows tag renewal only. Have you replaced any of the belts? Is there anything that DOES not work as intended? What does the car need right now? A/C working well? thank you...

@Turbo123 yes indeed, I have not cleaned the engine for about 6 months or so and they are easily wiped off, my apologies.

Hi @Seller, can you please provide details on the smoke marks or stains ?? around the organ pipes and else where?

  • buccicone (registered bidder) 4 years, 9 monthsago

@JNasty The correct HP for the S4 is 326 hp.

  • buccicone (registered bidder) 4 years, 9 monthsago

It is a 1986 1/2 model according to the VIN number. Motor is still the 288 hp 32 valve. S4 bigger brakes, different exhaust than earlier models.

Couple minor things: 1) Does not have "S4" rims, has S3 manholes. Same style. The rear rim is 1" wider on the S4 rim and somewhat "concave" vs ever so slightly "convex" as shown. 2) This car has 288HP. The S4 from 87 had 306. Looks really nice!
