DT: 1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet

Up for auction is this Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet. The 944 S2 paid homage to the Turbo by using its upgraded suspension and more aggressive cosmetic features.  From 1989 to 1991, only a limited 2,402 Cabriolet variants were produced. This unique and sought after example is being offered in turn key condition out of Dallas, TX.

The white paint is stated to be in excellent driver-grade condition.  The paint is also stated to be original to the car with the exception of the front bumper cover and driver's door.  This 944 is equipped with original 16” alloy wheels that wear a fresh set of Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's.  The blue top is said to be in excellent cosmetic condition, though it is currently operated manually due to a cable needing replacement.

The sporty yet luxurious blue leather interior shows extremely well as per the gallery photos.  The dashboard is fully intact with one minuscule crack and the newly installed Boxster leather seats show very limited wear (original seats included).  The 944 S2’s interior is the true definition of a touring car.

Power comes from a number's matching 3.0L double over cam 16-valve head inline-4 cylinder engine that produces 208HP and is connected to a 5-speed manual transmission.  The seller reports that a timing belt service was performed within the past 2k miles.  The car was also completely looked over for any issues of which none were reported.  It is stated to be in excellent running condition.

944's are becoming more and more collectable as time goes on. Don't miss the opportunity to own a turn key example in a very sought after color combination.

The sale will include a Carfax report, AutoCheck report, all books, service records, and keys.  Please note that there is a branding issue on the Carfax.  A clean title and Auto Check will help dismiss this issue.

I have attempted to bid on your vehicle several times...each time you have rejected my bid...is there some reason why?

Thanks for your reply seller, but I got it after the action ended, so I wasn't able to place a bid in time.

Hello. The accident was minor by all indications and only required work on the front bumper cover as far as I can tell. This car would have no problem driving cross country.

What do you know about the accident reported in 2009? I owned a 944 that was hit and that really killed it's value. This is a good looking car though. Do you think there would be any problems in me driving it home to central Florida?

I am not a Carfax fan and this is the reason why I use Autocheck because it complies more accurately with the titles. I have posted both the Autocheck report and title. The former accurately reflects the title and ownership history. Most importantly this car has a clean blue Texas title with no brand of any kind.

Greetings and welcome to my auction.

This is one of a handful of 944 variants offered by my client, an avid 944 enthusiast. The actual mileage on this car is unknown, as the odometer was reported non-functional in 2006. The current owner purchased the car and repaired the odometer in 2016. The timing belt and other significant services were also completed at that time. About 2500 miles have been added since then. As stated, a pair of blue Boxster seats are fitted. The original seats were removed with the intent to have them reupholstered but that has not happened. Those original seats are included in the sale.

This car starts right up, idles easy. It has good acceleration and the rear mounted 5-speed transaxle shifts smoothly. The 944 is all about balance. During its run, these cars were recognized as the best handling cars in the world, and the cabriolet introduces a whole new dynamic to the experience. The 944 range are also great touring cars that can flat eat up the miles. They are easy cars to drive fast. The interior is very comfortable with ergonomics and creature comforts that best the 911's of the day.

The big powerful 4 cylinder engines have proven to be quite durable, more akin to the flat six of the 911 than the V8 of the 928. So many 944's were left to the elements but those drive trains survive and now that the market is coming around on them it is giving owners some incentive to get them freshened up and back on the road.

This is a well sorted example with cold AC and everything is in working order with the exception of the Blaupunkt radio and the power feature of the convertible top. The top motor and switches are good but the cable is broken. However, these are well designed tops that can be thrown back and pulled up easily with one hand; much easier than even a g-body cab.

The car presents nicely and gets lots of attention. The styling has aged well and of course unless you have been sleeping, interest in 944's has gotten some legs. They present a good opportunity for value and appreciation for P-Car enthusiasts. Pre-purchase inspections are welcomed and encouraged.

I will be monitoring the activity and am available on this thread or by private message to answer any and all questions
