DEAL TANK: 8K-Mile 2008 Porsche Boxster S Limited Edition

Up for auction is a 2008 Boxster S Limited Edition. This is a very special car that is sure to spark the interest of Porsche enthusiasts everywhere.  This particular car has been driven only 8,700 miles since new and could possibly be the nicest example available.  The GT3-RS-spec orange paint is in like new condition and the Alcantara black interior shows like it was just delivered new from the Porsche showroom.

There have been only 2 owners since being delivered new from The Collection in Miami, Fl.  The second owner drove the car sparingly and stored it in a climate-controlled garage when not in use.

A 3.4L 295 HP 6 cl engine powers the rear wheels and is connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

In this particular listing, we thought it would be valuable to include the original MotorTrend article from when the car was introduced.

MotorTrend – “What's different over the standard Boxsters? The most obvious change is the 911 GT3 RS-spec orange paint with black painted mirrors, wheels, front and side intakes, but the other changes are more than skin deep. A sports exhaust system has been fitted along with a SportDesign package, including a revised front spoiler, a redesigned automatic rear spoiler, and a new rear valance with integrated diffuser.

Inside, a Limited-Edition plaque is found on the glove box, while the seat inserts, 911 GT3-spec steering wheel, and handbrake lever all receive Alcantara wrapping. Orange roll-over hoops, door lever surrounds, shift knob, and cup-holder cover trim match the exterior color and offset the otherwise black interior.

Only 500 Limited Edition Boxster models will be made available and they are scheduled to hit showrooms on September 28. Porschephiles are a dedicated lot, so we'd suggest that you run, not walk, down to your local Porsche dealer if you'd like to have a shot at obtaining one."

The car comes with the original books, tools and keys.

My wife had one from 2012-2015 and missed it so, that we bought another 2008 S LE about 17 months ago. It had 18,000 miles on it and a fully stamped maintenance log. This one is probably the lowest mileage one around.

@RobRx I have Skittles in my garage. I had a Carmon Red 07 CS before I found the CSS. While both are very similar, I like to say the Cayman feels a bit more athletic than the Boxster. My CSS has PASM while the LE has std suspension, other than that they're optioned the same. I do DEs in my CSS while my LE is a semi-garage queen.

@husker_boxster Clearly you like cars in bright colors! How does the Cayman S compare with the Boxster S in the limited edition? Any big differences in driving experience (other than the roof)?

  • husker_boxster 1 weekago

I have Boxster S LE #005 and a Signal Green Cayman S Sport. Both great cars. Bought my LE new on NYE 2007 and the CSS was 3 yrs old w/ 7400 mi. Both have just over 60K mi now. This LE is about as new as you'll find.

@ober9331 Yes, for this specific, initial 2008 limited edition that many call the "Halloween Colors" edition there were 250 Boxsters and 250 Boxster Ss produced globally. I heard only 100 of them came to the US. Sorry I was not trying to confuse anyone. As a potential buyer you might be interested to know there were other limited edition Boxsters & Caymans produced in 2008, the last year of the 987.1. They all compete with one another for the limited number of buyers who a: appreciate what appearance and value the special editions offer, and b: are willing to overlook the overblown potential IMS issue which one does not have in the 2009 and later cars. In my experience I have not seen any of the 2008 Boxster S limited editions selling above $34K. There was one Cayman S Design Edition 1 which sold at $38K on BAT. It is great news to me as an owner if they are appreciating though.

@RobRx Rob, you are making my head hurt by brining up caymans and other Boxsters. LOL.
The model they are selling here..... 500 produced? Orange Only? Seems all correct to me.
I had the pleasure of driving one of these LE's. Fun and so balanced with great sound. Should do well into high 30's to 40 with this mileage.

@11JM There were actually 5 different 2008 special/limited editions produced. This is one of 500 Limited Boxsters/ Boxster S announced along with 777 of the all black Cayman Design Edition 1. There were 1960 RS 60 Spyders made in 2008. And finally there were another 500 all white Boxster S Design Edition 2s and 700 Cayman S Sport editions produced. The Cayman S Sport came in this orange or a green

@RobRx Hi. Appreciate the feedback and that is helpful. It is important to point out that this particular special edition only came in Orange, the RS60 and others are different in their own rite. The area of focus here is the completely original condition and the extremely low miles. I agree that a car with 40k miles if a good example would trade in the $30k range.

  • RobRx 1 weekago

@11JM I agree 100%. In my search for a Porsche that I could afford I have unintentionally (Since I found the 2008 special editions were right in my price sweet spot) become quite knowledgeable about the market for these cars. I just bought my 2008 RS 60 Spyder on BAT for $33.5K. It was a special car in terms of its options, and I knew of its owner's reputation. I have not seen another "Halloween Colors" Limited Edition 2008 in better condition than what you present here. I am super interested in the price you set. I have seen one of the "White Ice" 2008 Limited Editions with low miles sold at around $32K. One of the most difficult things for me as a potential buyer of a 10+ year old car was establishing what a fair price was. I have seen that these cars in average condition, with 40K miles or so are trading at about $27-29K.

@RobRx Hi, I believe I have the wind stop piece, if not, it is a fairly easy thing to find. We will see where the auction ends, I was advised not to discuss prices. I will say that this is one of the finest on the market and will go to someone that sees the value in buying a numbered car in top tier condition.

  • RobRx 1 weekago

Just realized what this car appears to be missing, the clear windstop that goes between the seats. The connectors for it are in place, but it is not. Do you have that seller? If no it is not a huge deal, can buy them easily.
I am gonna guess this seller is hoping for $35K but will settle for $32. Any other guesses?

this is by far the best DRIVING porsche I've experienced in a while. driven plenty of 911s old and new. and the way this handles with a centered drivetrain and how great the Alcantara steering wheel feels, holy shhh. people don't give Boxster enough credit.

Besides the fact they this car handles and drives incredible is just part of its allure. I think the MotorTrend piece you guys included in the listing did a good job portraying just how special this car is. Not sure where it lands price wise but what a great investment in addition to the obvious fun. Glwa.

The wisest Porsche guy I know told me that when looking for a Porsche always try to get one from near the end of a style run, they are the most evolved. The 2008 special/limited edition cars represent a pretty sweet moment in Porsche evolution. I love my 2008 RS-60 Spyder!
