Now available for auction is this 1948 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe finished in burgundy over a beige leather interior. This example was reportedly a barn find discovered in the early 2000s, well-preserved by the dry climate of Northeast Washington. It was subsequently treated to a rotisserie restoration including a full exterior repaint, a custom upholstered interior, and a built Ford 351 Windsor V8 that generates around 430 HP. The restoration commenced in the mid-2000s and was completed around 8 years ago with approximately 1,200 miles driven since.

As part of the restoration, this Ford Coupe was stripped and repainted in the current burgundy color. Exterior equipment includes chrome bumpers, chrome trim, dual side mirrors, rubber stone guards on the rear fenders, an oval rear window, and dual exhaust tips. The steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with whitewall tires.

The interior has been reupholstered in custom beige leather, including the Glide Engineering front bench seat, the rear seats, the door panels, the headliner, and the steering wheel, accented by a beige painted dashboard and burgundy carpeting. The trunk has also been reupholstered with an interior matching panel displaying a Ford logo with burgundy carpeting. Amenities include an IDIDIT tilt steering column, roll-up windows, a custom steering wheel, and a custom sound system by Secret Audio.

Under the hood, this Super Deluxe has received a built Ford 351 Windsor V8 which is said to produce around 430 HP using Trick Flow Twisted Wedge aluminum cylinder heads and other modifications. Known modifications include a Mustang II front end suspension with disc brakes, a lowered suspension, and a Ford 9” rear end with a True-Track limited-slip differential. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an automatic gearbox.

This sale will include a clean title.

    Those of us here have most likely been to more than just a few car shows in our day. We see many very nice car but few actually make us stop and look a bit longer. This is one of those cars...

  • porscheklaus (seller) 2 yearsago

    I'm adventurous :)

    Title is clean, clear and in the wife's name. Good question though. The car is SO good and though I would not hesitate the 900 mile trip, it is so good that my concern would be rock chips.

    I lived in Cali for 40 years and most of those years were spent in the car business. I have never heard of a 1948 anything requiring a smog certificate. I can't imagine the State requiring that but, then again.... I no longer live there :) Washington State as no emissions testing what so ever. It's a Ford V8 in a 1948 Ford 2 door coupe, which happened to come with...wait for it .... a Ford V8 :) nod nod - wink wink

    @porscheklaus,
    You are a brave man for driving an old 1966 GMC from where it was all the home with very, very old tires on it !
    I might decide (depending on where the auction price will end up) and see if it's would worth it having the car shipped to the Bay area !
    I have A couple of questions about the TITLE OF THE CAR here that may be of my concern and decision making as a California resident !!!

    A) Is it still for car, under the late husband's name (which would make the paper work very complicated) OR the MRs. Name ???
    B) this one is a long one ( sorry) and the answer to this one may not be simple for you in the state of Washington, but my question is that since the car has a wonderful modern engine and drive train (which is a overall a plus and far less pollutant in many ways, even with out the required Emission components) , but in California, the requirements are that all the emission (SMOG) equipment (s) of the specific newer engine be installed on the vintage vehicle .
    So, any information on the car having any Emission equipment(s) ???
    Thank you,
    Efariab

    @Efariab I understand the tire concern as they are older. Given that the car is always covered and garaged I personally wouldn't be concerned but, you're talking to a guy who once flew to British Columbia and drove back a sight unseen '66 AMC Station wagon :) I think you'd be just fine. As for the car itself, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment.

  • Efariab (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

    @porscheklaus,
    My apologies for misspelling t your name in my last comment.

  • Efariab (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

    @Porscheklauz, thanks for your reply about the chassis and under the car . I guss at this point we have to trust your jugment and take your words for it !
    Now, based on your assumptions that the tires being 10 to 15 years old, is a safety concern of mine as I live in California (the Bay area) and if were the lucky auction winner, I would like to drive the car back to the Bay area with some very old tires ??

  • porscheklaus (seller) 2 yearsago

    @Efariab Not sure I can before the auction ends as the car is with the owner and she is gone for the Easter weekend. What I can assure you of "absolutely" is that the cars chassis shows just as nicely as the balance of the car. Take a very good look at the car, blow up the photos as large as you can, it really is flawless. I will guess at tire age of somewhere between 10 and 15 years as the car was lightly driven.

  • Efariab (registered bidder) 2 years, 1 monthago

    @porscheklaus, could you please provide some more pictures of the under carriage and also "how old" the tires are by looking at date stamps on the side walls of the tires (i e 23 18 translates to 23rd week of the year 2018) ??
    Thanks you

    As you may have figured out.... I am no cinematographer :) The car starts instantly cold or warm. I was going to try a short driving video but, rain killed that. Again, there are only about 1,200 miles in the car since completion, truly a turn-key '48.

    Howdy all.... A few unlucky years ago the builder/owner of this fine '48 was tragically taken in an automobile accident. His wife has asked me to help sell the car. I wish I could provide a bit more technical information but, what I can tell you is having been around high end cars my entire life, the build quality on this Ford is simply sensational. Paint, interior and chassis are flawless, The car starts instantly cold or warm and is a remarkably strong runner. This very tastefully done '48 is a ground-up build to an extremely high standard, the cars quality stands out! Happy bidding.
