Available for auction is this 1953 MG TD MkII finished in Red over tan leather. Reported to be a two-owner car from new, this 1953 example is said to have been in the possession of its second owner since 1971. The penultimate T-Series Midget, this final year TD features chrome bumpers, a folding windscreen, a soft top with side curtains, and a rear-mounted spare wheel. This charming 1953 MG is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Ohio while showing approximately 14k miles on the 5-digit odometer.

The exterior is finished in Red with contrasting beige side steps and fenders.  A new black soft top is said to have been installed in 2018 along with matching side curtains.  The car has been previously refinished and is noted by the seller to be free of rust and wood rot.  The driver’s side door is reported to sag slightly, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. This MG rides on a set of classic 15” wire wheels with center knock-off hubs and Continental tires.

Inside, you will find a tan leather-trimmed interior with a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, wooden dashboard paneling, polished fittings, a glove compartment, analog instrumentation, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror. All gauges are said to be functioning properly with interior flaws limited to a few loose bolts on the driver seat and a loose handbrake lever. The windshield wiper blade is also said to be in need of replacement.

This MG is equipped with a 1250cc XPAG inline-four dual-carbureted engine which sends approximately 54 HP to the rear wheels through a non-synchronized 4-speed manual gearbox.  The car is reported by the seller to start and run smoothly while maintaining proper operating temperature.  Images of the underbody are provided in the photo gallery.

Included in this sale is a driver's handbook and a clean title.  Simple to operate and maintain while showcasing classic roadster styling, this 1953 MG offers the traditional British motorcar experience.

@Doc18015 Thank you very much for your insights. Our reserve is significantly lower than the price that you just mentioned for this car at the level you are referring to. With that said, we hope that someone can purchase it and enjoy it the way that it is, or add the details that you describe. Final day of bidding everyone! Don't miss out on this beautiful piece of history.

Here is what I see: I own a Mark II.....on this car, no dual fuel pump, dual front shocks, dash is not original only gauges, grill is painted wrong color should match the seats, top is different color than the tonneau, 52 never offered wires not sure if option on 53; colors???.......a very nice auto that needs attention for show work but an excellent driver. Original steering wheels were three prong wire...not sure of the wood as aftermarket. This car is a $35,000 auto all day long ..........

Hello everyone, this is John with Central Classic and I just wanted to make a few additional comments about this car. It is a terrific car with wonderful patina. The condition of this car is not far from a car we sold on Bring-A-Trailer for $34,000. Our reserve is considerably less than that and we really want to get this car sold! I will continue to answer all of your questions. Thanks.

@richjs43 Thank you very much. I will get that video today to the PCar team so they can upload it for everyone to see.

@kyjef Upon further inspection, the only issue with the drivers side door is actually just the latch itself which needs replaced. It is not locking properly so it is slightly lose. I apologize for the mischaracterization in referring to the hinge. It is actually only the latch.

Hi John, what is the cause of the sag in the driver's door? Is the door difficult to close? Does it rattle or make noise (including wind) when driving? Is it caused by loose or bent hinges? Do you know what would remedy the issue? I'd like to understand this more. Thanks in advance.

@CCCltd: Hello John, can we get a video of a cold start along with showing the dash to see gauge readings while running…Awesome looking TD, never owned one, but had owned several other Triumph models: 1968 TR250 (new), 2 TR6’s, TR8).
    Thanks.
