Available for auction is this 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster Replica finished in Pewter Grey over a black interior. Built by Vintage Speedsters in California, this 1957 Porsche replica is based upon a 1968 Volkswagen and features an air-cooled 1915cc flat-four engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. Cared for by only two owners since new, this Speedster is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California showing just over 5k miles on the odometer.
The handcrafted fiberglass bodywork is finished in Pewter Grey with a black convertible soft top and matching full and short tonneau covers. Exterior highlights include rear Porsche and 1600 Super badging, front fender Speedster script, a rear luggage rack, mesh headlight stone guards, with a centered tailpipe and bumper guards. Crested nipple hubcaps accent the 15" slotted chrome wheels, which come dressed in Firestone tires. This Speedster is also accompanied by a set of custom-made “CruZin Windows”.
The interior is appointed with black square weave carpeting and matching leather upholstery accented by a painted dashboard. Features include Coco floor mats, black 3" racing seatbelts, a Nardi leather steering wheel, and 356-style instrument gauges with green markings. Modern amenities include an Alpine CDE-164BT stereo with Bluetooth and a RoadPro 12-volt ceramic heater. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.
Power comes from an air-cooled 1915 cc flat-four engine paired with a 3:88 4-speed manual "Freeway Flyer" transmission and a Vintage Speed quick shifter. Dual Weber 44 IDF carburetors fuel the engine, and the exhaust exits through a black ceramic-coated A1 Sidewinder exhaust. Magnaspark ignition with solid state coil, an external oil filter, and oil cooler are also installed. Vintage Speedsters uses a restored Volkswagen floor pan shortened and mated to a custom fabricated 2"×4" 11-gauge steel frame. This results in a rigid structure that retains the VW pan design while also including the original Speedster’s slightly offset steering wheel. Handling is supported by a front sway bar, KYB rear shocks, and adjustable front and rear suspension. A killswitch has been installed for added security. Recent service in June 2022 included carburetor and valve adjustments.
This sale will include a clean title, one set of keys, an owner’s manual, a car cover, and a period correct vintage suitcase with accessories.

@Onehectic406 The car can comfortably cruise at 70mph & 3,500rpm. I have never pushed the car to top speed so I have no idea what it would be, but I'm sure it's well over 100mph. The car has not been on a dyno, so the horsepower would be a complete guess. The car weighs 1,700lbs and you can get a pretty good idea of its performance by watching the acceleration while driving through those mountain twists in the Foothill Drive video.
