Initially crafted by the Italian refrigerator company Iso SpA, the Isetta made waves upon its introduction due to its striking design and dimensions. It gained significant popularity across Europe during the 1950s and early 1960s, and BMW took over production of the Isetta in 1955. Previously refinished in red, this 1958 example is an ideal subject for a complete restoration and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Oklahoma.
The Isetta showcases a compact exterior design with a retro flair, highlighted by a single front door serving as both entry and exit, lending it a charmingly quirky appearance. T Before the seller acquired it, this example was part of a project that had been put on hold. As a result, it now sports a red paint finish applied before the reassembly of the body. The seller states the sheet metal body remains rust-free. It rides on restored 13” steel wheels with polished hubcaps and new tires and tubes. The windows, exterior trim, and headlights, and have been removed. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin offers space for two passengers, surrounded by a red finish to match the exterior. A three-spoke steering wheel is fitted, which frames a holder for a single gauge cluster. All interior components have yet to be fitted.
The car is equipped with a 298cc single-cylinder 4-stroke engine rated at 13 HP and 14 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed manual gearbox.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a very solid original floor and sheet metal stalled project, which is extremely hard to find with the Isetta’s. It is missing the front windshield, bench seat, and speedometer, while almost all the other needed parts are general soft parts needed for a typical restoration.”
