Available for auction is this restored 1958 Fiat 1200 TV Spyder finished in red over a black leather interior with white piping. Created as a more powerful answer to the 1100 TV Spyder, the 1200 TV Spyder debuted in 1957 and featured the 1.2L four-cylinder engine, which sent up to 55 HP to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. This example was a long-term one-owner car until being purchased by a collector in New York, who reportedly oversaw a full restoration. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Massachusetts.

This Fiat is finished in red and rides on its original chrome rims dressed in BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial Wide Whitewall tires from 2017. As part of the restoration, the car was repainted, the rims were refinished, the undercarriage was refinished and rust-proofed, new exterior chrome was applied, and a new canvas top replaced the old example.  Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The restored interior is complete with new out-swinging black leather seats, door panel trim, dash trim, roof trim, chrome brightwork, carpeting, a Nardi steering wheel, and a retro-style Bluetooth radio with hidden speakers. Additionally, all of the rubber trim and molding have been replaced and all gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly. The original steering wheel accompanies the sale.

This Fiat 1200 TV Spyder is powered by a 1.2L four-cylinder engine that sends up to 55 HP to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The restoration included an engine reseal, carburetor and brake booster rebuilds, new suspension, new wheel hubs, brake booster lines, and all new fluids. The seller notes that they replaced the battery and performed an oil change during the summer of 2022.

This sale will include a clean title, owner's manuals, a parts book, a spare tire, the original steering wheel, and several keys, including the original key fob.

@veloce1964 So are the pictures and video from the Spring of 2023?

  • veloce1964 (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

@Rgmaria have not driven it on the road since the test drive videos only started to move in garage and to take pictures in front of house

  • Rgmaria (registered bidder) 1 month, 4 weeksago

@veloce1964: The odometer reading is the same as in last March's listing. Has this car not been driven at all in 12 months or is the odometer stuck?

@Arffbubba thank you and I agree this car is really a masterpiece combining the styling of the classic Italian cars of the time and including some nods to some important American cars hats off to Luigi Rapi

  • Arffbubba (registered bidder) 1 month, 4 weeksago

@Pebblegreens thank your insight I never thought to look under the dash everything with this car has been great never an issue starts right up every time and drives really nice

  • Pebblegreens (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

Yes, the paint shown in your photos above the foot pedals & under the dash is the car’s original paint. This car has had a color change from white/off-white to a bright cherry red at some point before your ownership. Note: Red does look great on this car however.

The original, stamped/corrugated floor boards also have been replaced with smooth/flat sheet metal welded in. The welding looks well done though & it was likely impossible for a previous owner to find original floor boards for this car.

Thank you for sharing this information & full disclosure on this car. It’s a very original looking example & not often found in this condition. Very nice driving example.

  • veloce1964 (seller) 2 monthsago

@Pebblegreens I posted the pictures under the dash it’s a cream color not sure if that means color was changed perhaps @240zguild can comment as well

@aircooledguyks thank you and I agree it’s def a unique design mixing the Italian designs of Lancia and Maserati with some American styling from the Corvette and Thunderbird

  • aircooledguyks (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

@veloce1964 what a gorgeous looking car, rolling artwork! Seems like the right folks have landed on this auction. Best of luck - for you and the next owner.

  • Pebblegreens (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

@veloce1964 Great response. This will be helpful info for everyone. Thank you!

  • veloce1964 (seller) 2 monthsago

@Pebblegreens ok makes sense will take some today and post for you

  • Pebblegreens (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

It’s common to spray the entire trunk bottom during a color-change repaint.

The best place to determine if this car has had a color change is by taking clear photos of the metal underside of the dash. Additionally, the metal above the foot pedals.

    Can you display these photos?

  • veloce1964 (seller) 2 monthsago

@240zGuild thank you I appreciate that would prefer one with Sophia Loren or Audrey Hepburn while your at it lol

  • veloce1964 (seller) 2 monthsago

@Pebblegreens I have never removed the spare tire but will today to see if there is any sign of a color change

  • 240zGuild (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

@veloce1964 I have a saved pic of her sitting in one, I would send it if there is a way to do it here, as I think it would be good for this listing

  • veloce1964 (seller) 2 monthsago

@240zGuild wow I didn’t know that do you know if there are any pictures of her with the car out there

  • veloce1964 (seller) 2 monthsago

@Pebblegreens I bought the car after it was restored and I am certain was red originally as the red is all the way through the engine bay and in the interior behind dash etc there is no bubbling or rust any where on the car and I think there was some repair to parts of the floor after reading 240zguilds response and looking at other pictures on line

  • 240zGuild (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

@Pebblegreens I will add to your questions, as I don’t think these are the original floorboards either, because they flat and lack the pressed ribbing look my original floor car has, which is a very dominant feature that cannot go unnoticed.

  • 240zGuild (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

Eleanor Roosevelt had one, her son ran Roosevelt Motors. They were the main USA importer until the 1970s.

  • Pebblegreens (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

What was the factory original color?
Did this car have a color change?

What previous rust repairs were done?
Any rust bubbles in the paint?
    Any accident repairs?

  • 240zGuild (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

Guys, these cars don’t come up very often, and most of the examples are really not that nice due to the lack of parts availability, so the time to buy is when you see a nice example.

I have a single family owned 1958 1200tv Spider I recently purchased and did a full top and bottom side refresh, and I must say it is my favorite car to stare at when parked next to my other classic Ferrari, Maserati, and other vintage beauties, so let’s hope there are bidders in the room that know how special this current offering is.

@greg7334 @greg7334: thanks for the laugh!!

  • greg7334 (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

@greg7334 For clarification my father bought the magazine not the car 😂!

  • greg7334 (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

Like many of of you, I have loved sports cars since I was a child and have owned many and I'm now retired. My love of sports cars started with this model when it was on the cover of Road and Track. I begged my father to buy it and he did. Now decades later It's still a classic Italian beauty. Best of luck to seller and buyer.
