This 1961 Porsche 356B Coupe features T5 bodywork by Reutter and was owned by the same caretaker for 23 years. It underwent a restoration in 2013 and received an upgraded Porsche 912 engine in 2011 including a big bore kit, Webcraft camshaft, Super 90 crankshaft, a remote oil filter, and Solex carburetors. The transmission was also rebuilt with an upgraded Vic Skirmants 4th gear. Benefitting from a major engine-out service within the last year, this 356B is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Iowa.

The T5 Reutter bodywork was stripped to bare metal and refinished in the current shade of red during a restoration in 2013. The car’s original color was Ivory (738). Details include a Reutter fender badge, Euro-style taillights and reflectors, a front bumperette delete, bumper and rocker panel moldings, a polished driver’s side mirror, a chrome rear decklid grille, dual exhaust outlets, and gold Porsche 1600 Super badging. The car rides on chrome 15” slotted steel wheels with Porsche-crested hubcaps and Road Hugger GTP A/S tires (2021). The seller notes some stone chips on the lower front apron as well as imperfections on the right front fender and driver’s door edge.

The cabin is lined with tan carpeting and matching vinyl upholstery covering the door panels and upper dashboard. The seats are trimmed in tan vinyl with cloth inserts. Matching lap belts have been installed along with a three-spoke wood-rimmed Lecarra steering wheel, a Personal shift knob, and Coco floor mats. Other equipment includes manual window rollers, a fuel reserve lever, and a body-colored dashboard housing VDO instrument dials and a Blaupunkt pushbutton AM/FM radio. The notes upgraded LED dashboard lighting has been installed and all gauges and accessories remain fully functional including the original radio.

Power comes from a replacement air-cooled 1,600cc flat-four engine that was reportedly sourced from a Porsche 912 and installed in 2011. The engine has been upgraded with a big bore kit, Webcraft camshaft & lifters, Super 90 crankshaft & bearings, a remote oil filter, and Solex carburetors. The rear wheels are driven by a rebuilt 4-speed manual gearbox with a taller Vic Skirmants 4th gear. The chassis includes front disc brakes and Bilstein shock absorbers at all four corners. A major service was completed by Stalltek of Wellman, Iowa, in September 2022 including a valve adjustment, head stud repair, muffler repair, a new fuel petcock, clutch cable, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, transmission oil, replacement of a pushrod and associated head bolt O-rings, rear drum brake overhaul, front brake caliper service, new brake hoses, wheel bearings, and a replacement right tie rod.

This sale will include service records, a toolkit, a car cover, a battery charger, a car cover, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This is a modified 356B whose sole purpose was to drive & enjoy touring.”
