An evolution of the Karmann-built Porsche 356B T5 Hardtop, the updated Porsche T6 Notchback Coupe introduced structural roof integration paired with a Coupe windshield. One of just 699 T6-versions produced in total, this 1962 Porsche 356B Notchback Coupe comes refinished in its factory-specified shade of Black over a reupholstered red leatherette interior. This example is reported to have been first owned by California sports-car legend, Jack McAfee, who opened one of Southern California’s first Porsche dealerships and won the 1956 SCCA National Sports Car Classic F Championship in a Porsche 550 Spyder. Reported to have been restored by Porsche specialists in 2010, this rare 356B Karmann Hardtop is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Georgia.

This 1962 356B Karmann Hardtop Notchback is said to have been refinished in its factory-specified shade of Black after being restored in 2010. Compared to the 1961 T5, the 1962 T6 version was uniquely designed with a Cabriolet rear section and a T6 Coupe windshield frame with a special integrated hard top. Characteristics of the T6 Notchback include dual engine grilles, an external gas filler lid on the right front fender, and a larger rear window. Other exterior cues include a driver’s side mirror, body-colored bumpers with chrome overriders, and a luggage rack. It rides on aftermarket polished and slotted 15” Rudge wheels dressed in Hercules All Season Tour 4.0 tires with 2015 date codes. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The interior has been reupholstered in red leatherette as originally specified by the factory. Details include a body-colored dashboard with a passenger grab handle and a locking glovebox, black floormats, red carpeting, roll-up windows, a perforated beige headliner, an aftermarket Kenwood speaker, and driver and passenger door pockets. All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.

This numbers-matching Karmann Hardtop Notchback is equipped with a 1600cc dual-carbureted flat-four cylinder engine that sends power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Stopping power is provided by drum brakes at all four corners. The seller states that the car was restored by Porsche specialists in 2010.

This sale will include a clean California title, Georgia registration, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a toolkit, owner’s manuals, and some documentation.

The seller would like you to know:The owner of this car is an avid Porsche collector.  He notes that this is the best driving 356 that he has ever owned and he has owned many 356s.”

@alland - yes it certainly is. According to the certificate of authenticity, the original color combo is black(6213) with red leatherette. I'll try to upload a copy of the certificate.

Wish I had seen the auction sooner - right next door to you in Dawson. Too late for me to come and see it. Is black the original factory paint / color? Thanks much.

  • mark_2010 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

@RonSusser Ah, got it. Thank you. Mark

  • RonSusser (seller) 6 monthsago

@wcode - no Cal. black plate included.

  • RonSusser (seller) 6 monthsago

@mark_2010 - Georgia is a "no title" state for cars that over a certain age (1962 definitely qualifies). That means that Georgia does not issue a title for cars of this age only a transferrable registration which is used in the place of a title with your DMV.

Will the vehicle include the original CA "black" plates?

  • mark_2010 (registered bidder) 6 monthsago

I’m not used to dealing with vehicles titled in 1 state but registered in another. Is there some reason why it’s not titled in GA since the current tag is GA?

This sale will include a clean California title, Georgia registration

I bought 61 “notchie” on PCar several years ago. It’s slightly outlawed, but I’m tempted to chop the top to resemble a hardtop Speedster…

Hello Notchback fans - there was a great Pelican Parts thread dating back to 2010 highlighting the restoration of this car. If you'd like to review the thread, please click below (not sure if you need to be a member or not): https://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/542971-seahawk-356-project.html

Hi Pcarmarket community - welcome to the auction for this beautiful 1962 Notchback. I'll be here to answer any and all questions as quickly and comprehensively as possible. If you are going to request an in-person inspection, please give me some notice as the owner is quite busy and out of town. With notice, he'll be available. Good luck.
