Up for auction is this 1960 Porsche 356B Coupe finished in Silver Metallic over a Red leather interior.  With a complete bare-metal restoration carried out between 2016-2018, this 356B has been brought up to a very high standard with an $8,500 modern air conditioning system installed along with a rebuilt flat-four engine featuring big bore pistons and cylinders.  Reported to be in excellent driving condition for its next owner, this classic twin-grille 356B is now being offered by its seller in Florida.

During the restoration, this 356 was taken down to bare metal before being epoxy primed and completely refinished in Silver Metallic.  The paint is noted to be in very good condition and all of the chrome brightwork is said to have either been replaced or restored (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Exterior features include an attractive twin-grille rear decklid and genuine chrome wheels which have been fully restored.

Inside, the cabin has been completely gone through and reupholstered in Red leather with correct square-weave carpeting.  The instrument gauges were restored by Palo Alto Speedometer and a modern air conditioning system with dual condensers has also been installed at a cost of approximately $8,500.  The interior is shown to be in a beautifully restored state and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

As part of the restoration, this 356B was equipped with a series-matching flat-four engine which was upgraded with big-bore pistons and cylinders making for an greater displacement of 1.9 L.  A rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission is also equipped along with reconditioned brake drums and stock suspension which has been completely refreshed.  Invoices are included and this 356 is reported to be in fantastic running order with approximately 1k miles driven since the restoration.

This sale will include 1 key, records and invoices, a spare tire and jack.  Offering up classic styling and a visceral air-cooled driving experience, this nicely restored 356B presents an unbeatable value.

    @LouTalarico
    I saw the same thing. It said it was sold at $61,000 and now it shows the top offer as $60,000 even though a $61,000 bid is on the board. Maybe you just need to bid $61,000 and you will get it? I’d be happy with this car for that price if it didn’t just purchase a ‘69 912 this week.

    Not sure what happened here. I tried to bid, then car was sold, then not sold?

    We all know its very expensive to restore a car. It will almost always put you upside down in value. A restoration is done for love and fun its not a investment wise endeavor. Ben there don that more than once.

    @Hailey198 Thanks for the note, old pictures 3839, no rust dust. A C-section was bought from someone in Texas supposed to fit the 356 was a challenge to install but works great like a new car, Sanden compressor rather than York, and twin condensers do the job

    Beautiful car. It looks as though in pictures 39 and 40 there is some sort of debris or possible surface rust accumulation around data tags. Is that prior to restoration or a current photo? What type (brand) AC did you install and does it perform well with the power provided electrically in your 356 (i.e. no charging or voltage issues). Would you drive this car to California? It looks reliable enough to do so but would appreciate seller's thoughts.

    @HRPorsche Hi, the restoration was extensive and metal was replaced on the floors. There is zero rust on this car as it was done correctly. As far as the floor if I pull out the rubber Matt the floor is not visible because the new insulation material is bonded down to the new floor as was original. I can't draw a gorilla

    I will try to get the car on a lift for pictures but there's nothing to see other than a restored bottom of a car. No rust, new brakes, suspension components. Restoration cost approximately $80,000

    Cars located in West Palm Beach you are welcome to come do a pre- bidding inspection

  • HRPorsche (registered bidder) 3 years, 6 monthsago

    Could you post restoration receipts that shows, vendor, cost and scope. Could you post photos during the restoration and before showing the metal and the the scope of rust repairs? Also photos underneath on a lift, and of the floor boards w the carpeting and pads out. Thank you
