This 1962 Porsche 356B T6 Reutter Coupe is said to have been completely restored by the renowned Stan Leinen, considered one of the Pacific Northwest’s finest and most respected restorers. Beneath, a Super 90 engine has been rebuilt and installed by the expert hands of Duane Spencer at Shasta Engineering. By 2014, a total of 1,272 hours of labor were reportedly spent on the complete nut and bolt restoration including upgraded Wilwood disc brakes, a 12-volt electrical conversion, and a reupholstered interior. With no expense spared, this 356B comes accompanied by various service records and receipts. Finished in Signal Red, it is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington.

As part of the complete bare-metal restoration, this example was subject to a glass-out refinish in Signal Red. The seller adds that some repair work was completed throughout the restoration and all areas have been treated. Details include chrome trim, a matching rear-mounted ski rack, teardrop taillights, a gold-finished “Porsche 90” designation, upgraded Hella headlamps, and new wiring harnesses. Paint protection film has been applied to the front end and a minor paint imperfection was touched up on the hood, detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin has been completely restored with its factory-specified black leather upholstery, new matching carpets, a new headliner, and a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel. Additionally, a very rare outside temperature gauge is equipped, and the seller adds that all gauges have been sent out, completely restored, and reinstalled. Upgraded radio internals have also been fitted. Inertia-type seatbelts have also been installed and the window washer nozzles have been replaced along with all rubber including doors, windows, deck lid, and hood seals. The seller notes the sun visors show slight deterioration with age.

This 356B is powered by an engine borrowed from a Super 90 (#801006), which has been completely rebuilt by Duane Spencer of Shasta Engineering. The engine case was reportedly sourced from Rod Emery and nearly all internal bits were supplied by Harry Pellow, including intake manifolds, velocity stacks, air filters, c/912 fuel pump, Wurth fuel filter, cylinder heads, exhaust valves, intake valves, flywheel gland nut, connecting rods, rod nuts, cam followers, camshaft, and cylinder base gaskets. Additionally, the transmission and transaxle have also been professionally rebuilt. Upgrades include Wilwood front disc brakes, a dual-brake master cylinder, brake cables, a precision shift coupler/linkage, a steering box, a 12-volt battery conversion, and fuel safe fuel tank. The seller adds that a Dyno sheet will be provided and there are currently no outstanding maintenance items.

This sale will include a clean title, a complete tool kit, a new stock fuel tank and fuel-sending unit, and extensive documentation.

The seller wants you to know: "Having worked in the Porsche world since 1978 (Yes, that dates me) I have had the good fortune to look at, drive and even race many, many Porsches over the years. This is an absolutely exceptional car! This 356 starts instantly cold or warm and is the strongest running 356 I have driven in a very long time. The car revs to 5,500 rpm smoothly and effortlessly. Clutch take-up is both chatter and slip-free. The brake pedal modulation and feel are excellent. This car is a pleasure to drive anywhere and right now."

@mdsmds I do believe that is correct mds.

  • mdsmds (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Since the gauges were rebuilt during the restoration is it correct to assume that there are 10500 miles since restoration, as noted on the odometer?

  • andyrog (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Is Signal Red the original color?

  • porscheklaus (seller) 1 yearago

@burnrubr again, being the seller I am a bit partial. 356's are charming cars. Not particularly fast but, on a good windy road, with the right weather and on the right day.... pure magic! Not too many cars will make me smile just getting in.... dont ever drive a good one :)

  • porscheklaus (seller) 1 yearago

@fastricky thanks Ricky... darn nice of you to say! At the risk of sounding a bit biased here... the car really is just that good ! Thanks for the kind words. No disappointments here folks. None.

  • porscheklaus (seller) 1 yearago

@andyrog good morning Andy.. I have been through some of what is in "the box" but, there is just so much in there. Not sure if a kardex is so I'm not sure of the cars production date. I'll try to get clarification from my client to see if COA was ordered. Im currently traveling ...stay tuned.

  • fastricky (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Wow, it's rare (I mean never) that I see a car I'd be interested in and don't think "Oh they got that wrong" or "I'd have to change or address that" etc. This car is absolutely perfect. Even exceeds expectation. It kills me I'm not in the hunt for this car, t'was a pleasure just to see on this auction. GL!

  • burnrubr (registered bidder) 1 yearago

i'm always intrigued about these model but know nothin about them. Can someone chime in what's special about these to see if i'll be persuaded to bid? thanks

  • andyrog (registered bidder) 1 yearago

The clearance between the brake caliper and the hub looks very tight. Is that just the angle of the photo?

    @Slip356 sorry slip, I added a shot...

Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.

  • porscheklaus (seller) 1 yearago

@Slip356 yes, fronts are Willwood. I did supply photos though I am not sure as to why they are not posted... stay tuned, Ill make sure that they are. Appreciate the heads-up.

  • Slip356 1 yearago

The description says Willwood disk brakes. The rears are defiantly drums and no pics of the fronts. Please advise.
    Beautiful B 356.we

  • porscheklaus (seller) 1 yearago

@Rowej thank you. It really is a lovely car and it drives so very well. If you're looking for "turn key", here ya go ...

  • Rowej (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Beautiful car! Nice attention to detail and tasteful upgrades. GLWTA.

  • porscheklaus (seller) 1 yearago

Thanks for looking. The list of parts and the detail of this cars restoration is a bit overwhelming. A 16x12x10 " box is full of receipts and records. I have known this car and its owner for over a dozen years, there are more Porsche's in his garage.. many more. All are this good. Please feel free asking any questions that you may have. Inspections are welcomed gladly. Happy bidding!
