The Sunbeam Alpine was first introduced in 1953 by Talbot-Sunbeam and was named after the Alpine Rally of the early 1950s. This 1962 example had been under the care of its previous owner in California since 1978 and received a repaint in its original Carnival Red color as well as a complete rebuild of the engine in 2003. The interior was also reupholstered with new seat covers, carpeting, and door cards. Accompanied by a folder of receipts and service records, this 1962 Alpine Sunbeam is now being offered at auction by its seller in Washington.
The exterior is finished in Carnival Red (39) with a black convertible soft top, chrome bumpers with overriders, a polished windscreen surround, a driver’s side mirror, a silver fuel filler cap, and a single stainless-steel exhaust outlet. The seller notes some areas of the paint show minor touch-ups, detailed images are provided in the gallery. The 13” wire wheels wear knock-off spinners and are mounted with a set of Merit Metric SE-T tires.
The cabin features twin bucket seats upholstered in black leather with red piping. The dashboard, door panels, and carpeting are said to have been replaced in 2003. Amenities include a heater, lap belts, a center storage console, chrome-ringed Smiths instrumentation, a two-spoke banjo-style steering wheel, roll-up windows, and rubber floor mats.
The Alpine is powered by a 1,592cc inline-four with dual downdraft Zenith carburetors, rated at 80 HP. The rear wheels are driven by a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine was subject to a rebuild in 2003 which included the replacement of the pistons, main bearings, rod bearings, timing chain, tensioner, intake and exhaust valves, valve guides, and valve springs, as well as a new clutch assembly for the transmission. The seller reports some light oil seepage from the engine.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, shop manuals, service records, and a bottle of touch-up paint.

@Parsonenv25 It would appear that the cam cover gasket was indeed the culprit. Anything else would be truly minor. Thanks, Klaus
@Parsonenv25 I am almost certain that it did. I ran the car after installing the new gasket and all looks good. I'll see this morning when I get to the shop and look under the car again. the cork gasket was leaking at both the front and rear of the cam cover. I installed a new silicone gasket and it "appears" to have done the trick. Stay tuned :) .... remember though, it IS British :) :)

@Bilinski4447 Surprisingly, no. I recently acquired a new cam cover gasket (installed it yesterday) and when I was on the site, I was pleasantly surprised at what parts are still relatively easy to obtain. Trim items are tough as they are on most older cars but, mechanical and even interior replacement parts are mostly available. Thanks , the car is fun.

Good morning everyone. One of the best looking Sunbeam Alpines I have seen in quite some time. Absolutely zero rust. The car starts instantly cold and warm. Until very recently the car had but one owner since 1978. The car lived in California for a very long time, helping to keep it from rusting I am sure. The names associated with racing these cars back in the day is a virtual who's- who of great racing drivers; Bonnier, Brabham, Amon, Clark, Campbell, de Palma, Fitch, Hawthorn, Hill, Hopkirk, Miles, Moss... etc. Quite a list !
