Available for auction is this 1963 Porsche 356B race car finished in red over a brown vinyl interior. The 356B was introduced in 1959, and featured visual tweaks and technical refinement compared to the 356A which it replaced. This final-year example was built by its previous owner with the intent of competing in club racing events. It comes equipped with an electric fuel pump along with a fuel cell, and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania.
The Karmann bodywork of this 356B is finished in red with white over-the-top racing stripes and white “meatballs” on the doors. The seller reports that the body has been refinished several times under previous ownership, and was finished in blue before its current shade of red. The rear tail panel shows signs of repair and there is said to be body filler in both front fenders behind the wheel arches, as well as in both rear quarters behind the doors. Detailed images can be found in the gallery. Much of the trim around the exterior has been removed including the bumpers, turn signals, and license plate lamps. It rides on a set of “Wide 5” wheels, which come dressed in older tires.
Much of the bare metal areas of the cabin remain finished in blue, while the inner doors are finished in red. The seating surfaces are upholstered in brown vinyl, the rear seats and carpets have been removed, and the dashboard was modified to accommodate additional temperature and oil pressure gauges.
Power comes from a Type 616/2 1600cc ‘Super’ flat-four engine sourced from a 1961 356. The rear wheels are driven by way of a type 714 4-speed manual transaxle. The seller notes the gearbox number (65925) is correct for the car's production period. The car retains its standard drum brakes and has been upgraded with an electric fuel pump, a racing fuel cell, a remote oil filter, and other performance modifications. Recent service is said to include an oil and filter change, and the seller notes that new tires and a refresh of the braking system are due.

The car would need bumpers and lights. Some of the openings for lights have been closed and would need to opened. The seats are not properly anchored. I think it had a racing seat and these seats were put in the car and not bolted in properly. Install wiper motor and linkage. I would update the tires. I do not have information on the brakes and would plan to do a complete rebuild. It does not have door glasses. I have driven it on the road for less than 1 miles, but it does track straight.
