Replacing both the iconic 190SL and 300SL roadsters, the Mercedes-Benz W113 SL-Class was launched in 1963 featuring a new patented removable hardtop whose distinctive shape earned the car its “pagoda” nickname. This 1964 example is a 230SL, the earliest version of the W113, powered by a fuel-injected 2.3-liter straight-six engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

Designed by Béla Barényi, Friedrich Geiger, and Paul Bracq, the W113 SL was introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example was previously refinished in its metallic grey paint color and features a matching removable hardtop, a retractable black convertible roof, chrome bumpers and trim, dual chrome mirrors, dual exhaust outlets, and 14” steel wheels with chrome and body-colored hubcaps. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The two-seater cabin is appointed with beige upholstery, matching carpets, and wood trim. Accessories include a two-spoke steering wheel, a heater, analog VDO gauges, and a radio. The seller notes the left front door armrest needs to be reupholstered.

This 230SL is equipped with a 2.3-liter M127 inline-six featuring Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Up to 148 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The chassis includes a double-wishbone front suspension, four-wheel coil springs, a front stabilizer bar, front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, and recirculating ball steering. The seller describes the car to be in good running order with no outstanding service items.

This sale will include a clean title and a spare tire.

The seller would like you to know: “This Mercedes is in very good condition, running very well, and the transmission shifts properly.”
