For the 1964 model year, Porsche introduced the final iteration of their 356, featuring four-wheel disc brakes as standard equipment. Constructed with Karmann bodywork, this 1964 Porsche 356C 1600 Coupe has been refinished in its factory-specified shade of Ruby Red over a black leatherette interior. Delivered new to Daly City Volkswagen in California before being brought to Norway in 1999, it was acquired by the current owner in 2000. Accompanied by its original Kardex, this numbers-matching 356C is now being offered for auction on dealer consignment out of Norway.
This 356 was refinished in its original shade of Ruby Red approximately 30 years ago. Equipment includes a decklid with twin engine grilles, body-color bumpers with chrome overriders and integrated rear exhaust outlets, a polished driver’s side mirror, gold model lettering, pop-out rear quarter windows, chrome brightwork, and an underside front tow ring. The seller adds that the 15” wheels were re-chrome about four years ago and come dressed in Vredestein tires. A minor dent at the edge of the hood is noted, and detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin presents black leatherette upholstery with matching carpeting contrasted by a body-colored dashboard fascia. Accessories include front lap belts, manual window cranks, analog VDO gauges, a quartz clock, a heater, and a locking glovebox. A Nardi period-correct steering wheel and aftermarket removable front headrests have been fitted. The seller adds that the odometer was calculated and converted from miles to kilometers in 1999 by W.Deutch in Germany.
As much as 75 HP is drawn from an air-cooled 1,582cc flat-four engine with dual carburetors. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed manual transaxle and the chassis includes four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes at each corner. The seller adds that the engine and transmission stampings match those identified on the Kardex, with engine #713209 and transmission #78250.
This 356C is offered with a Norway registration.
The seller would like you to know: “This unrestored 1964 Porsche 356 C is a remarkable survivor, sold new in California and retaining its matching numbers as confirmed by the Kardex and accompanying photos. Repainted approximately 30 years ago in its original Ruby Red due to paint fading, the car remains largely factory-original apart from a period-correct Nardi steering wheel and detachable headrests. It has been under single ownership for the last 24 years. Originally delivered to Daly City Volkswagen in California, the car was imported to Norway in 1999 and acquired by its current owner in 2000. It comes with books and a folder of receipts documenting its history and care. The fluid film undercoating can be removed if desired. Detailed photos showcase the car’s condition, with every effort made to document its features accurately. As a long time 356er and current 356C owner there is a lot to like about this 356C. An ex California car that started life in Palo Alto it appears to still have all original metal with the possible exception of the passenger's side of the battery box. Delivery to the East Coast wouldn't be a lot more $ than delivery from its 1st home of Palo Alto. Northern Europeans interested in a 356C could drive it home if they wished. Of course they would have to take into account VAT issues. Buy it, win your local car show and drive it!
@Tpcarmarket A photo of the Kardex has been added to the listing gallery.
Is the Kardex pictured? Did I miss it?
