In 1967, Porsche expanded its model line with the introduction of a more powerful “911S” model along with the option of a new Targa body with a removable rear window. This Porsche 911S Targa is one of only 483 examples produced during the inaugural model year and was acquired by the seller from its original owner out of Europe in 1977. It was imported to the United States the following year and subsequently refurbished with new paint, reupholstered Sport Seats, overhauled brakes, and a rebuilt engine by Stoddard Porsche. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and decades’ worth of records, this coveted short-wheelbase 911S Targa is now being offered for auction by its longtime owner out of Ohio.
The more powerful 911S was distinguished from an entry-level 911 by its gold rear model lettering and wider rubbing strips on the chrome body moldings. The Targa includes a fixed stainless-steel roll bar with a removable roof panel and a plastic rear window that provides four different driving configurations. This example was stripped almost entirely to bare metal and refinished in the current shade of Light Yellow (6262) during the early 1980s. The seller notes the front pan was replaced during this time along with the outer rockers, seals, and gaskets. The Targa top was reupholstered by Autos International of California and the car has been fitted with a set of larger wider 15” Fuchs wheels. The original and highly sought-after 4.5”x15” Fuchs alloy wheels are said to be included in the sale as well.
The black leatherette interior came factory-equipped with an optional driver’s Recaro Sport Seat as well as a loudspeaker, an outside temperature gauge, and a rare Webasto gasoline heater. A matching passenger’s sport seat has been installed and both seats were previously reupholstered by Autos International. New carpeting was also installed by Stoddard Porsche. Other features include updated door lock mechanisms (69-73), a vintage AM/FM cassette stereo, and a rear seat delete with integrated storage compartments. The original Blaupunkt radio is said to accompany the sale along with the optional Webasto heater and an extra headrest assembly for the passenger seat.
Power comes from an original air-cooled 2.0-liter flat-six engine that was rebuilt by John Truman of Stoddard Porsche during the early 1980s. The engine has also been upgraded with a stainless-steel muffler, Permatune CD ignition, and Weber carburetors with adjustable accelerator pumps. The rear wheels are driven by way of a replacement Type 902/1 5-speed manual gearbox and the brakes have been rebuilt with upgraded stainless-steel lines, replated calipers, and a dual circuit master cylinder.
This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, original Fuchs wheels, a collection of factory parts, and extensive documentation.

I've only put on about 40,000 miles, most of which was while the car was in California for about 13 years. I've owned a number of rare Porsches since 1970 including a 1951 356 Cabriolet up to a 1974 RSR. I kept this one the longest as it's such a pleasure to drive. The multiple top/soft rear window configurations make it an ideal year-round car but here in Ohio it saw limited exposure. Of possible interest, included in the sale is a pint can of usable yellow laquer paint that was applied in 1980 in a nicely sealed can if anyone knows how to still paint lacquer!
All fluids were drained and replaced within the last 500 miles.
Using old work orders
with mileage records I've calculated that approximately 24,000 miles are on the rebuilt engine.

some items that may be of interest: the clock was sent to Palo Alto speedometer and rebuilt ( in 1980's) but perhaps because the car sat so often the clock currently doesnt work although the light does.
The Moto meter exterior temperature gauge doesn't work although all the components are there (see photos). I spoke to North Hollywood Speedometer and since the guage works with ether they would need send it to Mexico for a rebuild.
The original rear view mirror adjusts properly and the day night function works but theres some pitting on the chrome stem.
The headlights are the factory original H-1 lights currently running 100 watt hi beams (may not be legal in all states) and standard 55 watt low beams. As should be visible in the videos all lights/signals function as intended. The fog light circuitry allows them to operate in conjunction with the parking lights or low beams but not while the hi beams are on.
All the autum background photos were taken last fall before the car went into it's winter storage. Start up after 5 or 6 months of storage requires some persistent throttle pumping as the webers have no choke. Thereafter it starts flawlessly until it's next extended storage.
There are 2 sets of keys (see photos) plus an extra ignition key which operates both door locks & the ignition. Two seperate keys operate the glove box and trunk lock respectively.

You are correct, this model 911s came with the IDS Webers and the original carbs are on the car. I attached a photo before they were rebuilt.
There are only four of the early Fuchs included in the sale as photographed. The spare tire is on a 6x 15" Fuchs alloy rim.
The passenger door also has the last digits of the I'm certain you saw the dash stamp which is the full VIN before Porsche switched to control numbers.
I could not find the numbers stamped on the fenders were I believe they are in the headlight buckets. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
@miacollezione I understand that they are Webers, but are you confirming that they are IDS models and not IDA? Also, you said there is a spare tire but I don't see it in the pictures. Is it on a 4.5 inch Fuch rim? I saw a picture of one door with the proper vin number,does the other door and both front fenders also contain the proper vin numbers?
Yes the carbs are the original Weber's as is almost everything else on the car with the few deviations noted in the introduction. The carbs were rebuilt by the famed Stoddard Porsche head race mechanic John Truman last year. He upgraded the accelerator pumps into the adjustable version for better fine tuning. The car idles at about 600 rpm, a sign of a healthy well tuned motor.
Are the carbs carbs the original weber IDS carbs?

Color was changed from original 1967 Bahama yellow (#6605) to Porsche 1971 light yellow (#6262). Spoke to one of top regional Porsche bodyshops (ex- Stoddard employee) and they (Panelwerks of Mentor, OH) said to return to original color wouldn't be difficult.
May be I missed this elsewhere on this listing but is this the original color?
Most recent comp test was 160 +/- 4 PSI all 6 cylinders. Didn't do a leak down. The original tranny may be out there to track down (probably in Europe) but I don't have it. The one in the car is nearly identical 5 speed with silghtly different gear ratios.
Slight rust area on left rear floor pan .
Easily patched as pan is otherwise solid and original.
Do you have compression and leak down results on the engine? Is the original transmission available? What rust is in the car at this time?

A note to those who are looking at or following this auction:
First of all a clarification on mileage since I bought the car in Europe there are 128,000 actual kilometers on the original speedometer not miles. It past the 100K mark in the 1990's.
It also came to my attention that about 40 photos that were submitted were not published. Some were of the Fuchs stampings on the original alloys. Another photo was a close up of an area where the paint is spidering on the rear fender. I also submitted a photo showing the right windshield to targa top seal that functions fully but is worn and would need to be replaced at a cost of about $200 for the seal. I had submitted numerous paint meter guage photos which weren't published. Generally the gauge read from 9 to 20 mils throughout the car but the front hood lip area probably has some filler as it jumps to 40-70 mils.
Sorry for those ommissions but I had no control over actual publication. I could attempt to upload the omitted photos if any are of particular interest.
