When Mercedes introduced the 280SL, the third and final iteration of the “Pagoda,” in 1967, it highlighted the timeless nature of this model, showcasing a blend of enhanced sports car performance and luxurious saloon car comfort. This 1968 model is presented in Metallic Red over Parchment leather and is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Its features include a body-color removable hardtop, a tan soft top, power steering, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, a cassette stereo, and air conditioning. Showing approximately 64k miles on the odometer, this W113 SL is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Ohio.
Finished in Metallic Red, this example showcases a tan soft top and a body-color removable hardtop, complemented by US-specification headlights. The 14″ steel wheels are adorned with covers featuring painted centers and are paired with older Uniroyal tires. It is also equipped with power steering. The seller notes rust repairs were performed on the right quarter panel in 2012, and paintwork was blended into the trunk lid and top boot filler panel at that time.
The interior features front bucket seats upholstered in Parchment leather that extends to the door panels. Notable interior equipment includes a cassette stereo, an analog clock, a floor-mounted gear shifter, three-point seatbelts, and air conditioning. The two-spoke steering wheel includes a chrome horn ring and frames a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, along with gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature.
The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six comes factory-equipped with Bosch fuel injection, delivering power to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The seller notes the mechanical fuel injection pump was rebuilt along with the replacement of the exhaust manifold in 2017. Braking power is facilitated by four-wheel power-assisted discs.
This sale will include a clean title.
