Produced in October of 1967 for the following model year, this 1968 Porsche 912 Karmann Coupe was subject to a complete glass-out repaint in Polo Red and full engine rebuild by Restoration & Performance Motorcars of Vergennes, Vermont (RPM) in September 2016. The car had reportedly originated from Arizona and was acquired by the current owner from RPM shortly after the completion of its refurbishment. Continually maintained and improved over the years, this short-wheelbase Porsche 912 is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Vermont accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
The Karmann bodywork of this 912 has been treated to a glass-out rotisserie repaint in the classic Porsche color of Polo Red. The Certificate of Authenticity lists the chrome bumper horns as factory optional equipment and shows the original color to have been Burgundy Red (6808). The seller reports a few small bubbles near the driver’s exterior mirror as well as a blemish near the rear lettering. The authentic 14” Fuchs alloy wheels come dressed in a set of Cooper Evolution tires dated from 2018.
The Black leatherette interior features basketweave patterned inserts on the seats and door panels as well as brushed aluminum dashboard trim and grey carpeting. Other equipment includes black and red Coco floor mats, pop-out rear quarter windows, a passenger-side mirror, and Porsche crested lap belts. The front seats have been resprung and the seller reports the original Blaupunkt radio has been rebuilt along with the clock and speedometer. The door card pockets are missing and patched from previously installed speakers, and a hole is noted in the back of the rear passenger-side seat.
The air-cooled 1.6-liter flat-four engine is said to have been completely rebuilt from the ground up by RPM of Vermont in 2016. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual gearbox. The torsion bars have been replaced, Bilstein shock absorbers have been installed, and the original Solex carburetors have been rebuilt by Bavarian Rocket Science of Albany, New York. A modern-style fuse box has been equipped and the generator and regulator were replaced by Thomas Auto of Wells, Vermont.
This sale will include a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, owner's manuals, and a clean title.

@Renti I think it’s too late not to get you a picture. The struts, shocks, and torsion bars were replaced.
@guardsredd Thanks for the inquiry. The “as shown” mileage is unknown. When I bought the car in 2016 the speedometer and odometer were not functioning correctly so I had the instrument rebuilt.
Seller, you show the rear suspension connection to the frame. Can you show the front ones?

@Bruce914 Bruce, Thanks for the inquiry. Provably because I just started up the car in the video after not using it for a while, it might have been idling a tad slowly. I find that often is the case until it warms up. I could turn the idle up a bit. But, I do find that once it warms up a little, it idles faster so that why I haven’t messed with it. I seems to run fine. If I could grab my son, perhaps I could get a video of me driving the car. I live alone and would have to wait until he returns from work as I can’t film and drive at the same time. As mentioned in the description, RPM of Vergennes, Vermont rebuilt the engine in 2016. Last year, Bavarian Rocket Science of Albany, New York when through the carbs and turned the car. It’s run smoothly since. As you may know, these little, old four cylinders, air-cooled jobs sound quite differently then new cars, but that’s the charm in them.

@lekrz I bought the car from RPM of Vergennes, Vermont. When I purchased it, RPM discovered that it had low compression in one cylinder. So, they agree to fix the problem at their cost. As they dissembled the engine they felt that the cam should be replaced. We agreed to split the cost of an entire re-build which we did. I have the invoice to prove it and I saw the engine out and completely apart. RPM specializes in much higher end cars than 912’s - mostly Ferrari cars. They are an extremely qualified and respected vintage car restoration company. Check out their website. Regardless, I never instructed them to paint the engine or replace the engine compartment insulation which perhaps I should have done. I’m sure you could give them a call to discuss specifics as they are very helpful people. Thank you for your inquiry.
After looking over the pictures, The quality of the so called engine rebuild is evident. Why would a engine be assembled without taking the time to paint the components ? Or at least replace the heat shield while engine is out. Just to many red flags throughout this build, for me.
Not sure what the suspension tray is, but the struts and housing were replaced a couple years ago by Bavarian Rocket Science of Albany when they changed the shocks and torsion bars. Thought the undercarriage shots showed the pans.
A very nice car. A few shots of the pan and suspension tray would be helpful. That's where the money went on my 67 Polo Red 912. While we are down there, let's fix.... The fuse box replacement is very good. A better driving "356 D" Someone will be very happy at half the 356 price.

I'm retired and have been seeking a 912. Had a couple 911's in the 60's and 70's and a 912 would be perfect now at my age.
Hate to see this little beauty go, but my 993 wants my attention. Maybe not concours, but a really sweet well loved driver with virtually no rust. So much fun to drive!
