Now available is this 1969 AMC AMX finished in Hunter Green (P71A) overt a tan leather interior. Produced between 1968 and 1970 the AMX was one of only two American-built two-seaters at the time (the other being the Corvette) and was offered with a variety of trim packages and V8 engines. This 1969 example has undergone a full body-off restoration at a reported cost of over $95k. Features include 18” Boyd Coddington wheels, leather bucket seats, a custom 2,500-watt sound system, and a rebuilt 390ci AMX V8. Now showing just over 3k miles on the odometer since its restoration, this AMX is being offered by its seller out of Florida.
Developed with the goal of bringing AMC up to date with the trend of small sporty performance-oriented vehicles, the AMX featured a fastback roofline, a long front hood, and a shorter wheelbase compared to its contemporaries. This AMX was completely refinished in what is said to be its original shade of Hunter Green (P71A) with black over-the-top vinyl stripes. During the restoration, the car is said to have received new old stock chrome trim, glass, side mirrors, lights, and more. A new old stock fuel tank and oil pan were installed and powder coated in a near-chrome finish. Detailed images can be found in the gallery. It rides on a set of custom 18” Billet style Boyd Coddington ‘Harm’ wheels which come dressed in Kumho tires.
The cabin has been fitted with high-grade leather bucket seats with matching door panels and a padded dashboard. Additional details include 72oz. cut pile carpets in tan, a fully finished and carpeted trunk, an overhead console with XM Delphi satellite radio, a custom felt headliner, and a Grant GT wood-rimmed steering wheel. In the rear, a custom rear deck enclosure with a 2,500-watt Alpine sound system has been installed, and Dyan Mat Extreme was laid throughout the car providing superior soundproofing.
Power comes from a 390ci V8 sourced from a 1970 AMX. The engine was completely rebuilt and the block and heads were cryo-treated before being upgraded with a .040 over bore, Howells electronic fuel injection, a Mopar intake manifold, a FlowKool water pump, a Ron Davis aluminum radiator with dual fans, Hedman HTC headers, and more. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed manual transmission with a Centerforce clutch, Hurst shifter, and a 3.54:1 rear end. Handling has been improved with a Gymkhana suspension setup front and rear.

Back in '69 I'd blown the engine in my '65 GTO street racing so was hitchhiking on 12th st in Campbell, Ohio. Two hispanic (we called them Puerto Ricans back then) picked me up in a Rambler Scrambler (1969 - one year only). Red/White/& Blue w/that crazy hood scoop and a pair of M&H Racemasters out back. I hopped in the back seat and with a smirk asked the driver 'is this thing fast'? The two smiled at each other and when the light turned green, revved it to about 6000 & dumped the clutch. I swear it pulled the front wheels off the ground 6 or 8 inches. I was stunned. When he hit second it went sideways. MY tripower GTO was fast, made me $150-200 a weekend street racing ($50 at a time), but this Rambler would've cleaned my clock. I started looking for a 421 to replace my 389 the next day. These AMC 390s? Respect.
AMC made some great muscle cars. Like this one. I had a boyfriend who had a similar AMC Javelin and it was bad@$$!

This looks like a very cool AMX. Nice interior and fuel injected motor. I would change out the wheels for the rally 16 inch. These are great drivers, they handle well and are fast and rare.
