The Ford Mustang Boss 429 was created to homologate Ford’s 429ci semi-hemispherical engine for NASCAR racing and was offered between the 1969 and 1970 model years. With a total of 1,359 original Boss 429s produced, it is one of the rarest and most highly sought-after muscle cars of all time. This example is one of approximately 850 produced for the model year and was originally sold from Jerry Alderman Ford Sales of Indianapolis, Indiana. The car’s VIN reveals it left Ford’s Dearborn plant finished in Wimbledon White paint over a black Clarion Knit vinyl interior with hi-Back Bucket Seats, featuring a Z-code 429-4V Boss engine mated with a 4-speed close-ratio manual gearbox and a Traction-Lok differential. It was also optioned with power front disc brakes, power steering, Competition Suspension, the Visibility group, Interior Décor Group-Deluxe, color-keyed racing mirrors, a functional front air spoiler, and more. It was reportedly treated to a concours-grade restoration by specialist Drew Alcazar between 2017 and 2018 and has remained part of a large private collection ever since. Supported by documentation showing a numbers-matching drivetrain and original mileage, this Boss 429 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Oklahoma.

As the standard Ford Mustang’s engine compartment was not wide enough to accommodate the Boss 429’s large V8, Ford contracted Kar Kraft of Brighton, Michigan, to modify 4-speed Cobra Jet Mustangs to accept it. This example was factory-finished in Wimbledon White (1619-A) and equipped with an optional front spoiler, color-keyed racing mirrors, and chrome 15” Magnum 500 wheels mounted with period-style Goodyear Polyglas GT tires. The seller notes the car has been completely disassembled, placed on a rotisserie, and restored to its original specifications inside and out. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features black Clarion Knit vinyl upholstery with matching carpets, woodgrain trim, and factory hi-Back bucket seats. The car was optioned with the Interior Décor Group-Deluxe and Visibility Group Package along with Deluxe belts and warning lights, an AM radio, a console, and a trunk-mounted battery. The seller notes the original seat coverts and miscellaneous interior parts removed during the restoration will be included with the sale.

The centerpiece of the Boss 429 is its 429ci V8 engine featuring semi-hemispherical combustion chambers, an aluminum intake manifold, and a four-barrel Holley 735-cfm carburetor. This example is equipped with a 4-speed close-ratio manual transmission and a Traction-Lok limited-slip differential distributing up to 375 HP to the rear wheels. It also featrures optional power steering, power front disc brakes, and Competition Suspension. The car is said to have been restored to its original mechanical specifications. Images of the serial numbers are provided in the gallery along with the original window sticker, restoration photos, and a MartiAutoWork Deluxe Report.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals and window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, historical documentation, a clean title, a period-correct Autolite battery, and a display board with option details.

The seller would like you to know: “It is a pleasure to offer this concours-restored 1969 Boss 429, which started as a 32k original mile survivor car before the restoration, so this car is documented numbers matching and even comes with some of the original parts like original seat covers and other items that were saved to stay with the car. Don’t miss this opportunity to own such a nicely done Iconic car at a very fair reserve, along with also realizing huge commission savings on this PCAR auction platform, as it is a huge savings over the Barrett or Mecum buyer premium where we generally see these historic muscle cars offered. Good Luck, and don’t hesitate to ask any questions.”

Here are the 2024 and 2023 Boss 429 Mecum Sales Comps as seen via “comp pics” in the photo gallery below, with the first three being more recent 2024, so hopefully this shows how fair and below value our reserve is.

    $440,000 “Wimbledon White”
    $448,250 “Wimbledon White”
    $363,000

    2023

Our set reserved will leave plenty of equity in the car from the start, along with years of potential growth value being such and iconic Numbers Matching car, so do bid with confidence.

@nobrakes That it is, and it still way below recent 2023-24 sales comps shown in the gallery, along with being to purchase here with a much more reasonable buyers premium than the live auctions.

Ok guys, we are in the final closing hours, so do feel free to inquire about any last minute details that may be needed, and I will also note that I am more than happy to help with shipping logistics and timing/storage needs if there are scheduling needs.

Also do note that the Pcar platform with the 5% Buyers Premium capped at $5k is a Huge Benefit and Purchasing Tool, as this car would already have a $25k buyer’s premium at the typical live auctions, which helps the buying power for sure.
