Available for auction is this 1969 Ford Torino finished in Raven Black over a black leather interior. The Torino was an upscale variant of the Ford Fairlane and served as a basis for Ford’s NASCAR entrants. A limited number of specially modified Torinos were built to meet NASCAR homologation rules, featuring more aerodynamic bodywork as well as a host of performance upgrades. This custom 1969 Torino is said to have undergone a 6-year ground-up Talladega-style restoration by its previous owner using authentic parts sourced from NASCAR race teams including Dale Jarrett's full frame, Richard Petty's fenders, and David Pearson’s hood. It comes equipped with a Boss 429 V8 paired with a Ford Super HD big block top loader 4-speed transmission, a Ford 9” rear end, a custom suspension with adjustable sway bars and coilovers, leather bucket seats, 4-point harnesses, a custom dashboard and gauges, Vintage Air A/C, and much more. This uncompromising Talladega tribute is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Maryland having covered only 6 miles since its restoration.

This Torino is built on the frame of Dale Jarrett's #88 UPS Ford and its full-metal body is finished in custom Raven Black. It features a 3-pin hood sourced from David Pearson’s #17 Holman & Moody car and NOS rocker panels from Smokey Yunick's garage along with fenders, rear panels, and bumpers from various cars driven by #43 Richard Petty. Additional details include new glass, chrome and stainless trim, SpinTech side exit exhausts, and working headlights, taillights, blinkers, and wipers making the car street-legal. The seller has provided a collection of detailed images including photos documenting the build. It rides on a set of staggered-width NASCAR race design 17" Diamond wheels dressed in Mickey Thompson radial tires.

The cabin features a pair of custom bucket seats upholstered in black leather with custom 4-point harnesses. Additional details include a custom roll cage, a custom dashboard with Auto Meter instrumentation, a 3-spoke steering wheel and a steering wheel holder, a custom stalk with controls for the power windows and turn signals, a Vintage Air air conditioning and heating system, and a custom panel with toggle switches for the fuel pump, wipers, headlights, horn.

Power comes from a Boss 429 ci V8 engine built by Tim Barnett which is said to produce as much as 681 HP on pump gas. The rear wheels are driven by way of a Ford Super HD top loader 4-speed manual transmission and a Heavy Duty Ford 9" rear end. The transmission has been rebuilt with a hydraulic clutch pressure plate and throwout bearing, and the rear-end was rebuilt with a driveshaft-driven cooler. The suspension consists of a full custom NASCAR-inspired setup with coilovers and adjustable sway bars, and stopping power comes from Wilwood power disc brakes with 2-piece slotted rotors. A fuel cell is mounted in the trunk. The seller notes that an extensive service was carried out to ensure the car's drivability including a full fluid flush.

This sale will include a clean title.

@Yitzbud to my knowledge there is no equivalent - this car seems to be a very unique unicorn - love it.

  • Yitzbud (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@The_underhill_acct You are correct in everything you have said. 6 years and deep pockets to re-create this amazing car and have it street legal. However is the next owner of this car will absolutely love it...where else can you drive a street legal NASCAR recreation with power windows and AC and be the one people try to duplicate!

    @DavidJames91 monster jump.

That orange Porsche from the last week isn’t really a comp to this car but the result for that car was lower than I expected.

If someone told me the cost to construct this beauty was 6-digits - I’d believe it.

Strong bid but I assume the reserve has a way to go?

If not then I almost don’t want to know! ;-)

@Yitzbud quite the jump is all. Car sounds incredible.. GLWS I’m watching ?

    @Yitzbud bingo!

  • Yitzbud (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@The_underhill_acct the vin plate is on the dash at the windshield and the title and vin match.

  • The_underhill_acct (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@Yitzbud does the car somewhere retain the original vin plate matching the title? I don’t know about a Torino but on my ‘69 bronco it’s on the glove box door.

  • Yitzbud (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@Viper123 it can be as it has headlights and taillights, blinkers, horn, wipers, working power windows, hood and trunk latches etc

  • Viper123 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

Registered and street legal in MD?

  • Yitzbud (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@The_underhill_acct They truly are a special car and giving the exhaust a little bump make the radio stay off!

  • The_underhill_acct (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@Yitzbud The 550 was my “unicorn” and still is the crown jewel of my little collection.
Grigio Ingrid with every option including carbon. It’s a dream. Put on Fabios remote controlled-valved exhaust and it sounds amazing.

  • Yitzbud (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@The_underhill_acct I owned a 1999 550 in Verde Mugello with two tone interior and a gated shift! I loved that car but had an offer that I could not refuse! The 550 was such an amazing car! I can understand the switch!

  • The_underhill_acct (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@Yitzbud p.s. and yes I have a cannonball run “problem/addiction”. Also ran the OLOA in 2006.

  • The_underhill_acct (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@Yitzbud go to Instagram and use the #projecttalladega and then also #projectwhythehellnot I also owned the red cannonball replica car at the same time.

Both the red ‘75 Laguna and the black ‘75 Laguna left the collection and I did a reverse 2-for-1 of sorts and bought a 2000 Ferrari 550.

  • Yitzbud (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

@The_underhill_acct thank you for sharing. The Laguna is similar to the one driven in the movie the Cannonball run by Terry Bradshaw and Mel Tillis! cool car indeed!

  • The_underhill_acct (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

I used to own a ‘75 Laguna called #ProjectTalladega and one of the dreams is to run the Carrera Panamericana…..

Yeah.......I'd sure as hell be amongst "the gathering of people." Total gearhead candy.

  • Yitzbud (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Thank you for taking the time to look over this truly one of a kind unique car! The labor of love put into this car does not even match the amount of money spent and the lengths of travel the former owner went to make sure the parts were authentic, from Dale Jarett's former #88 car to Richard Petty and more. Driving this car is an absolute thrill and the gathering of people who want to see the car is unbelievable, from thumbs up to "Is this a real race car?" is constant. To the winning bidder I will pay for the car to be shipped to any of the lower 48 via enclosed trailer. Please ask any questions you have as I am more than happy to answer. GLWTA!
