Up for auction is this 1969 Porsche 912 finished in Ossi Blue over a black leatherette interior.  Combining the styling of the original Porsche 911 with the simplicity of a lightweight flat-four engine derived from the 356SC, the Porsche 912 has become increasingly sought after by Porsche collectors and air-cooled driving enthusiasts alike.  Finished in the desirable shade of Ossi Blue, this long-wheelbase 1969 example was recently inherited by its current owner and has been treated to some noteworthy service items in preparation for sale.  A beautiful driver-grade example, this 912 is now being offered for auction out of New York while showing approximately 73k miles on the 5-digit odometer.

Named after a town on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia, this 912 is finished in its factory specified color of Ossi Blue, an attractive shade that was only offered from 1968-1969.  Some areas of the car have been refinished and the paint remains well presented overall with some cosmetic imperfections as depicted in the photo gallery.  The rocker panels have been repaired and the original floor pans and glass have been retained.  A considerable amount of the factory undercoating has also been preserved.  This 912 rides on Stoddard reproduction 15” chrome ventilated wheels which are currently dressed in a set of period-style Vredestein Sprint Classic tires.  A matching full-size spare wheel is included in the trunk.

Inside, the driver is greeted by a very well-preserved black perforated leatherette interior.  The carpeting and leatherette dashboard trim strip have been previously replaced and the cabin stays true to its factory appearance with the correct steering wheel, seats, gauges, and Blaupunkt radio.

Power comes from a series-matching 356SC-derived 1600cc air-cooled flat-four (#4095452).  This pushrod-type engine features dual Solex carburetors and is capable of sending approximately 100 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.  Recent service items include rebuilt carburetors, new brake hoses and fluid, a new alternator, and an oil change.  The seller reports this 912 to be in strong running order, just waiting to be driven and enjoyed.

This sale will include a spare tire, toolkit, and a clean title.  Well sorted while retaining its factory appearance, this 912 makes the perfect driver for any air-cooled purist.

  • chicagojeff 2 years, 11 monthsago

Hi there. Lovely car. Could you please explain what exactly is the ownership history? thanks.

  • PCARMARKET 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Maui928 A video of the vehicle idling has been added to the listing page.

  • Ewatt63 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@jakus I hope this answers your questions.
As stated previously, the rockers were replaced. The inner sills and kidney bowls were structurally sound and did not require any repair. Photos of the rockers in current condition have been uploaded. This 912 is in excellent structural condition and ready to be enjoyed. Best of luck.

  • Ewatt63 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Maui928 it settles down. We will put an idling video up.

Does the car always idle that high at 1500 rpm or does it settle down to a lower level? Great looking car. Thanks!!

Hi- can you give me any more info on the structural condition/ any rust repairs needed? when the rockers were replaced were the inner sills/ kidney bowls repaired? Any photos of repair work would be appreciated. Also photos of any documentation you have would be good thanks

  • Ewatt63 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Hi. Just FYI the car was sitting in my garage for a period of time, as a result I had the carbs taken apart, cleaned and the oil/filters changed. It is now running very well. This is a very nice and solid 912 in a truly special color that will give its next owner lots of enjoyment

@Ewatt63 , misunderstanding on my part regarding the description. Reading it again I see it can also be construed as the history of the 912 in general and where the initial batch of the series got their engines. I took it as a car with an engine whose original home was a 356SC... etc. Even better then.

  • Ewatt63 (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@lbpa18 hi. Not sure why you think the engine has been replaced. That is not the case. I will gather more info and respond further to you tmw. Thanks.

  • lbpa18 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Hi. Would you be kind enough to provide any available detail on the following:
    1. Was the engine swapped (or original)and how many miles were on this engine then?
    2. What is the condition of the floor boards? If the rockers were replaced due to rust, the floors are likely in need as well?
    3. Is there a known history and/or maintenance service records?
    4. Accident history? Paint readings?
    5. Any known issues that need to be addressed? Does everything work?
    6. COA or similar?
    Thanks, Lew

The listing also needs to be updated regarding the single battery conversion. The 912 only came with a single battery so there was obviously no conversion. The second battery box was kept empty on the 912; only the 911 used both battery boxes as they had the same body.

  • PCARMARKET 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Poromeo This is a long-wheelbase car, the information in the listing has been updated. Thank you.

  • Poromeo (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

The write-up states this is a "short Wheelbase 1969 912. If its a 1969, it should be a long wheelbase. Can you please clarify?
Also - do you have a COA you can add a picture of?
