We are pleased to offer this 1969 Porsche 912 Targa finished in Silver Metallic over a black leatherette interior.  This long-wheelbase 1969 example was originally sold through Schoenfeld, Inc. of Georgia and had remained under the care of its previous owner from the early 1970s up until the seller’s acquisition in 2013.  Since then, the car has received a full respray in its factory color along with an engine rebuild, reupholstered Targa top, and a new CV boot. Retaining its numbers matching drivetrain, this Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Rhode Island accompanied by the original window sticker and a Porsche Product Specifications Certificate.

This 912 came factory finished in Silver Metallic (6851) and was equipped with optional bumper guards front and rear, a stainless-steel muffler skirt, and chrome hub caps with Porsche emblems.  The rocker panels are reported to have been replaced by the previous owner during the 1970s and the entire car was professionally refinished in its factory color in 2014.  The seller notes only a few small touched-up chips throughout the exterior, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  The factory 15” steel wheels were reportedly dressed in the current set of tires about 8 years ago.  A matching full-size spare is also included in the trunk.

Inside, you will find a nicely kept black leatherette interior featuring an optional leather-covered steering wheel.  Other factory options include an antenna, tinted windows, and a heated rear window.  An aftermarket Kenwood cassette radio has been installed and the Targa top is said to have been reupholstered in 2019.  All gauges and accessories are reported to be functioning aside from the clock and radio, although the tape player still works properly.  The seller has added approximately 2k miles during their ownership and the 5-digit odometer currently reads just over 69k miles.

The original 356-derived 1600cc flat-four engine is connected to numbers matching 5-speed 902 manual gearbox that drives the rear wheels.  Upgraded Weber carburetors have been installed and the entire engine is said to have been rebuilt in 2015.  A brake service is also said to have been carried out in 2017 as well as a new CV boot in 2019. Images of the engine stamping and Porsche Product Specifications Certificate are provided for reference in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a collection of documentation, the original owner's maintenance booklet and window sticker, the original Blaupunkt radio manual, a spare tire, a transferrable registration, and a Porsche Product Specifications Certificate.  This rare 1969 912 Targa has been nicely preserved throughout the years and is just waiting to be cherished by its next caretaker, do not miss out.

@RPorsche Nothing underneath has ever been replaced or repaired except the rocker panels. No sign of any residual rust anywhere. I think the original rockers may have gotten scraped up too much and it was easier to replace them

    @bigdaddyolson Absolutely no rust anywhere.
I’ll try to upload some more pictures

@ RPorsche. Car looks like a great classic. But can you provide some more pictures and information on the state of the undercarriage? You said the rockers were replaced early on. Are there other signs of rust anywhere? Thank you.

In the state s of RI and NH the registration serves as the title with an antique car

@Derekbou I don’t want anyone else to misunderstand me here so I’m agreeing to allow Derek to come and see my car if he wants. Just trying to keep this fair and uncomplicated. Thanks all

  • Derekbou (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@RPorsche as the seller it’s certainly your prerogative to refuse to show it but it is an odd sales strategy. Winning an auction is based on an individuals willingness to buy at a certain price based on available information. The only way I see it being “unfair” to other buyers is if it’s not as claimed which would affect my willingness based on first hand information others would not be privy to.

    Good luck all

  • RPorsche (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Derekbou The answer is No. This would inevitably lead to an attempt to purchase the car outside the auction. And I’m not trying to sell this car. If it sells it sells. If not I’ll keep it and it’ll go up in value. My auction my decision. Thank you to all bidders!

  • RPorsche (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Derekbou Wouldn’t be fair To other registered bidders too far away to also see it.

  • Derekbou (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

PM sent yesterday about seeing the car in person- possible?

  • RPorsche (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Bills65 Sure. It tends to run a little rich with the Weber carbs. The design is made to send the max amount of fuel/air ratio to the engine for higher performance, thus the black on the bumper where the exhaust exits the muffler. Also there’s nothing melted, just some black rtv filling in a gap at the end of the molding

  • Bills65 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Nice looking 912, Does the Muffler skirt come with the car or is it gone long ago? Also I was wondering , with the engine work done why is the rear bumper black and the molding distorted at the tail pipe opening ? Thanks

  • browntodd (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

The car sounds amazing, the guy on the bike should hear my '64 nova.

@R3Nterprises I’ve been a Porsche VW mechanic for 43 years so as I did perform the work myself, all I have are receipts for all the parts needed. I can post them if necessary but I can tell you that the engine was still in excellent condition at the time of rebuilding. It was a light rebuild with new rings, valve grinding, seals replaced, etc. All engine components were in excellent shape. While at it I added New Weber carbs which contributed to it having a lot more power besides running like new again

  • R3Nterprises (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

A classic that looks to be in solid shape.
Do you happen to have the invoice for the engine rebuild? If “yes”, can you post that separately so I can review ? Thanks, and GLWTA…
