The iconic 1970 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Roadster boasts a dual-carbureted inline 6-cylinder engine paired with a synchronized 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in its original Sable Brown finish, this example underwent a "Preservation Class" restoration by Classic Showcase. The restoration included a new and factory-correct "Biscuit" leather interior, a new black top, exterior refinements, and updates to all mechanical components, totaling over $35k in service receipts. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from the Jaguar Heritage Trust, it features a narrow front grille, exposed headlights, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Smith’s instrumentation, and more. Meticulously cared for, it is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California with 8,679 reportedly original miles on the odometer.

The Series 2 E-Type brought about several changes, including wraparound chrome bumpers, larger front indicators, removal of the glass headlight covers, repositioned taillights, and a larger front grille. This example comes factory-finished in Sable Brown and has undergone an exterior refreshment. It is equipped with a replacement black convertible top, exposed headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, dual exhaust outlets, and sits on 15” wire wheels. The seller notes some cracking and scratches on the paint, although the body remains dented-free. Detailed images and supporting documentation on the restoration process are provided in the gallery.

The interior showcases reupholstered "Biscuit" leather sport seats, complemented by matching door panels, door sills, and carpets, all sourced by Classic Showcase. It is appointed with Smith's analog instrumentation, a three-spoke woodgrain steering wheel, and upgraded visors and speakers. The center stack houses a range of auxiliary functional gauges and mechanical switches, including a rebuilt clock. The seller notes a few minor imperfections but affirms the absence of any cosmetic damage. All gauges and electronics are confirmed to be functioning properly.

Power comes from a 4.2-liter DOHC inline six-cylinder engine featuring dual Stromberg carburetors. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed manual transmission, and standard features include an independent coil-spring rear suspension, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and a synchromesh gearbox. The engine has undergone meticulous disassembly and cleaning to ensure optimal performance, with no outstanding mechanical issues currently noted.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.

Yes, the toggle to the left of the glove box is a manual choke. You can see it in the "cold start" video where I pull it out to start the car, then push it back in, one notch, to reduce the idle until the car fully warms up.

  • blackfish19 2 weeks, 2 daysago

Beauty,, what is the toggle? is it a manual choke?

@mayart Sorry for the conflicting information in the description of the car. It is located in Oregon and also has a clean Oregon title.

  • mayart (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 4 daysago

@seller is the car currently in California or Oregon? If it's in California, what city?

  • m99smith (seller) 2 weeks, 4 daysago

@ppalmer The car has not been repainted. The paint is original. The photos from Classic Showcase are of buffing and polishing so none of the trim had to be removed. Thanks for asking.

Hi did they paint around the trim or remove for the paint ?

    Thank You

    Paul

All bidders. This is an unusual example of a Jaguar Series II XKE with extremely low miles. It is "as new" as possible for a 54-year old, unrestored car. It runs extremely well and is such a beautiful E-Type!! Good luck with bidding today.

@The914 I've owned the car for over 3 years and, yes, the restoration was expensive. The new leather interior and top were my choice to bring the car back to close to what it was when it was new. The disassembly of the engine was work was necessary to clean out the residue from years of being stored. The result is a beautiful, well running car that will bring years of pleasure to whoever buys it.

How long have you owned this car? Receipts from 2023 show restoration cost over $55,000, including down-payment.

@Chipper The car was stored for decades so it needed the engine cleaned and the interior and top replaced. The paint is original and despite a few minor flaws is in very good condition.

  • Chipper (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 6 daysago

Why did it need so much restoration with the low miles. Was it entirely repainted?

Regarding the paint meter readings…unfortunately I do not have them, but will do my best to get them before the auction ends. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • m99smith (seller) 3 weeks, 3 daysago

Thank you for the kind comments. It truly is a beautiful color combination on a beautiful car.

  • themachinestl (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 3 daysago

Owned a sable brown 1969 E Type. I think SB suits the car extremely well. Very classy color on one of the most gorgeous cars of all time (also the opinion of Enzo Ferrari---regarding the car, not the color.)

  • Legendary (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 3 daysago

@seller. Please post pics of paint meter readings.
