Commonly regarded as Mercedes-Benz’s first high-performance luxury sedan, the 300SEL 6.3 is based upon the long-wheelbase W109 luxury car featuring a powerful 6.3-liter V8 engine borrowed from the massive 600 (W100) limousine. It was originally conceived as a private venture by Mercedes engineer Erich Waxenberger and was introduced as a full-scale production model at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show. The powerful and luxurious car was produced up until 1972 and held the title as the world's fastest four-door production sedan up until 1989. This 1970 example is accompanied by over a decade’s worth of service records and is now being offered for auction out of the Wilson Collection in Florida.

This 300SEL 6.3 is finished in Silver Grey (DB180) and is said to have been previously refinished in its original color including a custom black-painted roof upon the owner’s request. The car features an optional electric sunroof and is adorned with chrome bumpers, door handles, and body moldings, a chrome radiator grille, dual polished mirrors, a fender-mounted antenna, front vent windows, dual tailpipes, and factory 15” Bundt alloy wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Exalto tires (2010). The cabin is appointed with black leather upholstery and Zebrano wood trim spanning the dashboard, door panels, and window frames. It offers a generous complement of standard features including power windows, central locking doors, and power steering. An optional air conditioning system is also equipped as well as a vintage Becker Europa II BC/FM stereo. The seller notes the seats have been reupholstered, the headliner was recoated, and the A/C system has been recently recharged. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

Derived from the flagship 600 limousine, the 300SEL 6.3 is equipped with a 6.3-liter M100 V8 engine featuring Bosch fuel injection and an output of up to 250 HP and 369 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment includes air suspension and power-assisted ventilated disc brakes at each corner. The seller indicates maintenance records are available dating back to 2012 and a service was performed upon their purchase at Black Forest Mercedes of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
