For the 1970 model year, Porsche introduced a new 2.2-liter flat-six engine for the 911 series. The range-topping 911S model offered a fuel-injected version producing 180 HP along with Fuchs light alloy wheels and larger brakes compared to the entry-level 911T. This 1971 example is one of just 788 Targa versions produced for that year and comes finished in Bahia Red over black leatherette. The subject of a comprehensive restoration, the car has been treated with a professional refinish, interior refurbishment, a transmission rebuild, and an extensive mechanical overhaul. This classic 911S Targa 2.2 is now being offered for auction by its third owner out of Pennsylvania, supported by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
This example has undergone a complete refinish in its factory-specified shade of Bahia Red. Simultaneously, the Targa top was restored, and all rubber seals were replaced. Equipment includes U.S.-specification bumperettes, anodized gold lettering, a chrome driver’s side mirror, a removable roof panel, 911S aluminum rocker moldings, and factory 15” Fuchs wheels dressed in Nexen Aria AH7 tires from 2018 in new condition. The seller notes European-style H4 headlights were fitted, all bulbs were replaced, and all any details that were not in excellent condition were replaced. Presented in black, the cabin has undergone a complete reupholstering including new seat cushions and leatherette covers, a restored dashboard, and fresh carpeting with sound-deadening material underneath. The equipment includes a four-spoke black leather steering wheel, roll-up windows, and newly fitted seatbelts. The seller adds that new speakers were fitted, and the VDO instrumentation was removed, cleaned, repaired, and updated with LED bulbs. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be in proper working order.
The air-cooled 2.2-liter flat-six engine was factory-rated at 180 HP. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a factory-correct replacement 5-speed manual transmission. The 911S comes standard with fuel injection, front and rear stabilizer bars, and aluminum front brake calipers. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity shows engine #6310372. Recent maintenance items are said to include the entire fuel injection system checked, fuel injectors tested, the fuel filter replaced, a valve adjustment, transmission rebuilt, calipers rebuilt, and engine shrouding sandblasted and painted. Well disregard, I just looked it up. It IS listed as 180 HP. I’m not going to open the can of worms between PS/DIN/ Etc.

I don’t think they were getting 180 HP from 2.2 liters in 1971.
I believe BAT might have the description wrong, this is not pointed at the seller.

@jaydubau yes, it seems there are a lot of different versions out there
@eagle32 There was no rust behind the headlights or anywhere else on the car. The outer rocker panels appear to have been replaced at some time in the past before I purchased the car. I do not have any more information about this repair other than the fact that a quality job was done.
Was any rust repaired in the sills under the doors or behind the headlights?

@Epicmc The title I have says 33k miles. I would assume it has rolled over. When I bought the car it did not have any previous history. I run a Porsche restoration shop, we have been restoring them for over 25 years. I have a full detailed parts list on everything we replaced on the car during the restoration.

@Andrew2337 Thanks for checking out the listing. We took the original door sticker off when we did the paint work and we had AASE sales produce an exact replica. It matches the old original exactly. Also, if you do an image search you will find other red 1971 911's with the same layout and silver color on the door jamb sticker.
