This 1971 Porsche 914 has undergone a custom build showcasing a rebuilt Yamaha 3.0-liter V6 DOHC engine from a Ford Taurus SHO. It comes equipped with the SHO’s 5-speed manual transmission and disc brakes along with a custom center console, sound system, dual cameras, a widebody kit, and a custom engine cover. The only known 914 to have undergone this complex and detailed engine swap, this SHO-powered Porsche is now being offered for auction out of Florida.
This 914 has been refinished in black and fitted with a widebody kit including fender flares, bumpers, and rockers. The engine lid has been customized for an exposed view of the mid-mounted SHO V6. Other details include painted bumpers, a body-colored removable roof panel, a driver’s side mirror, pop-up headlamps, a mesh rear bumper grille, dual center-mounted tailpipes, and aftermarket silver 15” Sport Edition F2 wheels with new Toyo Proxes R1R tires mounted in 2023.
The black interior includes refurbished factory bucket seats, racing harnesses, a flat-bottom three-spoke steering wheel, a custom center console, and switches for the ignition, lights, and camera system. The vehicle also features a DVD head unit with navigation, an MP3 player, front speakers, custom auxiliary gauges, an Auto Meter Sport-Comp tachometer, and a digital speedometer. The seller indicates the car’s mileage was reset upon installation of the rebuilt engine.
Built by Yamaha for the Ford Taurus Super High Output (SHO) model, the 3.0-liter SHO V6 is an aluminum head 24-valve DOHC engine with a variable length intake manifold, a 7,000 rpm redline, and a factory-rated output of 220 HP and 200 lb.-ft of torque. The V6 in this 914 was sourced from a 1990 Ford Taurus SHO along with its 5-speed MTX-IV manual transmission and four-wheel disc brake system. The seller indicates the engine was completely rebuilt with new gaskets and seals along with a new clutch, flywheel, and throw-out bearing for the transmission.
This sale will include a spare tire and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a one-of-one custom build. Countless hours have gone into making this vehicle what it is today. The car gathers a lot of attention and thumbs up when driving. Parked in a Lamborghini row at cars and coffee this car gathered more attention than the Lamborghini cars. I truly hope this car finds a great owner who appreciates what it takes to even create something such as this. The ability to bring a vision to reality on a project that is a one of a kind.”

I want to leave some thoughts on build quality and price. See 914 build with 380-400hp 914 build, $444,000.+

The builds above are not unique. The are not a "1 of 1". This is a rare opportunity.
@raharg0 I have spacers for the front wheels to bring them out further to align with rear wheels. For handling I prefer the car with it's current setup. Handles great. I can include these if you are the high bidder and want them. Many hours have gone in to bringing this car to perfection with handling as a primary objective. Also, there is a supercharger from my understanding that would bring this car to around 450HP. This car in my opinion is perfect the way it is configured currently. If you look at the performance of a Taurus SHO, imagine the performance with this setup in a Porsche! Check out the videos !

Wheel is stamped on backside 15x6.5 1/2. If I remember the SHO wheels 5x4.25.
Do you happen to know the width and offset of the wheels? Is there room for a wider setup? Thanks.
@RumbleAuto I do not have the cut out portion.
Do you have the cut out portion of the engine lid? I would be interested in fabricating some sort of transparent/carbon bonnet.
@raharg0 finger slip , 83 miles shown.

answer to miles after rebuild, guesstimating < 1000 (high estimate). Speed was measured with GPS until new speedometer installed January this year, reading today, 7/14/2024, 84 miles. Speedometer has several colors that can be set to your preference. Pictures updated.
How many miles on the engine after rebuild? Any estimate of chassis mileage prior to reset? Gorgeous and innovative build!
What a unique and absolutely stunning build! Best of luck!

I agree with you 100%, but I can also see that people might be a bit scared to bid for a one-off as it is truly unique and will need a knowledgeable caretaker and shop to keep it happy over time. Those engines are known to be quite exceptional though.
Is there any type of cover for the engine?
@RumbleAuto this is the only 914 of its kind in the world !
the Jay Leno ford fiesta SHO was described as bullet proof. Imagine the SHO in a car that is known for amazing handling coupled with the power of this Yamaha engine in a 914. The engineering is amazing on this car. Even though you see it here I don't think anyone could duplicate this.

Unlike the similarly named Shogun (SHO engine in a Ford Festiva), this one looks a lot more eye catching to me! GLWTA
