The predecessor to the original Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the W108 full-size luxury car was designed by Paul Bracq and assembled at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Stuttgart from 1965 until 1973. This 1972 example is finished in Blue Metallic over a Parchment leather interior and features a 4.5-liter M117 V8 engine paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. It was originally sold in Michigan and was acquired by the seller from its second owner in 2021. This W108 is now being offered for auction out of Arizona.

The 280SE came factory-finished in Blue Metallic (396) and was repainted in its original color under prior ownership. The car is decorated with a chrome grille, trim, and bumpers and includes a polished driver’s side mirror, dual polished tailpipes, and silver 14” Bundt alloy wheels. The seller notes some paint chips are present and the Sumitomo tires are about 12 years old. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is upholstered in Parchment leather with matching carpets and headliner contrasted by a blue dashboard with a wood veneer fascia. Equipment includes a two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring, power windows, a heater, an air conditioner, a quartz clock, a locking glovebox, a folding center armrest, and a Becker Mexico AM/FM/cassette stereo. The seller notes the air conditioning system is inoperable and the HVAC switch sticks.

Power comes from an overhead-cam 4.5-liter M117 V8 engine featuring Bosch fuel injection and an output of up to 198 HP and 264 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 3-speed automatic transmission. The car is equipped with power-assisted disc brakes at each corner and the seller reports that the front brake calipers and pads were replaced in 2019.

This sale will include some documentation, a factory data card, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for your interest. I am the third owner of this vehicle. The car has been professionally maintained and kept in a climate-controlled garage. All maintenance is up to date and ready for a new home. Thank you.”

    These are truly fantastic cars and very fun to drive even though expensive to maintain. Do you have a ny expectations on value?

    @zollerm Hello,
    Thank you for reaching out. I have some documentation regarding maintenance and mileage. The actual mileage is unknown. The ODO shows 14k. I have put about 800 miles on the car as third owner.

    @jazzman Hello, Thank you for the question. There is no visible rust and the car has been kept in a climate controlled space in Arizona. I will upload any paint chip pictures this afternoon.

  • zollerm (registered bidder) 1 monthago

    Is this mileage documented? Thank you.

    I have owned several of these 4.5's and they are great cars, but are super expensive to maintain and repair. Do you have service records that can document the actual mileage? Is there any rust anywhere? Can you provide photos of the paint chip areas. Thanks
