Available for auction is this 1972 Porsche 914 finished in its original color of Bahia Red with black vinyl and gray tweed interior. Powered by an upgraded 2.0L flat-four engine featuring dual Weber carburetors, this 914 was acquired by its seller out of Arizona in March 2020 and has since undergone rigorous maintenance including engine and braking system service, new tires, an upgraded Bluetooth sound system, and more.
This 914 is finished in its factory-specified color of Bahia Red and rides on 15” Fuchs wheels with Federal Super Steel 657 A/S tires. Black sail panel covers are included with the factory Appearance Package and upgraded LED running lights and brake lights have been installed for improved visibility. A rear window defroster is equipped as a rare factory option. The car was previously refinished and the seller has replaced the hood, rear decklid, and rear floor pan along with some rust repair and reconditioning of the paint. All rubber seals and lenses have also been replaced and the exterior is described to be in good condition with some minor imperfections. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The interior is finished in black vinyl with gray tweed inserts on the seats and door panels. The dashboard and carpeting have been replaced, the instruments have been refurbished, and the sound system has been upgraded with a Bluetooth radio paired with speakers under the seats. All gauges, climate controls, wipers, and warning lights are functional although the seller notes the interior dome light does not turn on when the driver’s door is opened and the window defroster is currently inoperable.
The original engine has been swapped for an upgraded 2.0L flat-four equipped with dual Weber carburetors and a new exhaust, sending power to the rear wheels by way of a 5-Speed manual transmission. Maintenance performed under the current ownership since 2020 includes installation of new spark plugs, a new distributor, battery, Pertronix Ignitor II electronic ignition, heater hoses, filters, fluids, brake pads, rotors, and rebuilt calipers.
This sale will include a clean title, spare tire, restored original jack, owner’s manual, two keys, and all receipts from the seller’s ownership.

@RoxDen I purchased the rears 5/5/2020 and they have a date code of 4217.
I purchased and had installed matching fronts on 3/11/2022 that have a date code of 4619. Supply chain issues on these tires delayed all four at the same time. They all have probably less than 100 miles on the rears and 20 miles on the fronts. I noticed recently the date codes weren't as current as I would have thought for a new purchase from Priority Tire online and they weren't helpful with a good explanation as to why except the usual COVID supply stuff. I have the receipts of purchase and install. Thanks.

@Samsgarage Thanks for the compliment on the interior. My wife and I worked hard on the seat vinyl replacements and sewing parts of the backrest. Then we tackled sourcing and replacing any thing else that was missing or didn’t look good. The tweed inserts are not only unique, they breathe better than vinyl. If anyone has ever restored one of these, it’s the rubbers that cost the most and most fiddly to install. It was all fun though.
@Chupee I do not know if the bushing has been replaced on 1st fear as inquired. I understand that these early 914’s have the dog eared shifters and I have grown to master first gear. I’ve read about it and find that mine is normal like the others who have one. You have to be patient for one second to drop it in gear at a light, but that is part of the charm of driving this classic. All subsequent gears shift quickly and nicely and reverse is easy. @hwy61 I probably didn’t explain this well but what I see is sometimes one drip and sometimes none for months as the engine expands and contracts with temperatures Driving versus sitting as well. My VW mechanic, Biel’s Automotive in Prescott who serviced the car and just built our 1.776 VW engine for our Ghia assures this is normal for a flat four configuration and these engines. Also, I have never seen oil decline on the dipstick. I hope this helps.

Have the bushing s been replace on 1st gear as these are terrible with the dog ear unless dealt with.. thx

@fpaniagua930 Hi. Yes I can meet at the airport if you are the winner. She’s a solid driver and comfortable considering it’s a sports car from 1972. You just have to get past the desert out here with no A/C like the “old days.”

@Kenleyl the car has no leaks. There are the usual flat-four oil drips that sneak out now and then just to let you know it’s there. My VW mechanic said that is normal for these engines and our newly built VW Ghia engine does the same. She got new valve cover seals along with its overhaul. I just changed the oil, filter and spark plugs a week ago as well, which always seems to drip some on the floor. Thanks

@Kenleyl it is the rear window defroster that is not connected. The power wires are on the floor under the carpet but some of the heating wires on the glass look severed. It’s fixable I’ve read. The front window defroster and all temperature controls work. Thanks for the question.
Is it that the rear defroster doesn’t work or for windshield? What would it take to repair?

Welcome Porsche lovers to my classic 914 auction. I hope you find the pictures helpful and I welcome any questions. I'll answer to the best of my knowledge. We get lots of looks and thumbs-up driving and a lot of attention among the 911's at shows. It's such a unique design, often the only 914 in attendance. Everyone seems to have a story about knowing someone who had one in the 70's. It's been a pleasure for my wife and I to work on it to make it as good as she can be. She looks great and runs reliably on twisty drives over the mountains of Arizona. We've kept her babied in the garage and out of inclement weather. Of note is that prior ownership appears to have been in California based on the stickers I found, which is also likely as I acquired the car in Phoenix. This would explain the lack of significant rust or appearance of replaced sections, but I can't confirm its full history. However, we can provide with the car the receipts for parts and work done under our ownership. Have fun and let me help you get to know her better.
