Available for auction is this 1972 Volkswagen Type 2 Single Cab pickup finished in Lotus White over a two-tone white and grey vinyl interior. Volkswagen’s second car model after the Type 1 Beetle, the Type 2 is considered one of the predecessors of the modern cargo and passenger vans. A single-cab pickup was introduced into the Type 2 lineup in August 1952 and received a significant update in 1968. This Type 2 was the subject of a complete nut and bolt, frame-off restoration. It features a unique pickup configuration with a single-cab, custom teak-wood bed rails, and individual folding bedsides. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Ohio while showing approximately 350 miles on its odometer since the restoration.

During its restoration, this Type 2 was stripped to bare metal and treated for corrosion before being refinished in its current shade of Lotus White. The seller notes that new chrome trim, glass, rubber gaskets, and headlights were fitted along with custom teak-wood bed rails. Additional photos including a  collection of photos detailing the restoration process can be found in the gallery. It rides on a set of 14” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps which were recently dressed in new tires.

Inside, the seat frames were stripped to bare metal before being refinished and treated to new padding and nautical vinyl covers. The inner body was lined with heat and sound-deadening material, and a new headliner and carpets were fitted. Details include a new steering wheel and gauges, a Retrosound radio with Bluetooth capability and a JBL loudspeaker,  an aluminum rear view mirror, and Wolfsburg-style seat belts. The seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional.

Power comes from an air-cooled 1,500cc flat-four engine that drives the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual transaxle. The original engine and transmission are said to have been refurbished during the restoration with a new carburetor, distributor, ignition coil, fuel lines, and more. The seller notes that service was carried out in January of this year and there are no outstanding issues.

This sale will include documentation of the restoration process and a clean title.

Kudos to the seller for doing such a great job with the restoration to a great vehicle.
On the opposite side of restoration philosophy, I have a friend who rebuilt his with a 2 liter 911 engine and gearbox and Porsche disc brakes all around. What a sleeper!

Hello all and thanks for taking a look at this absolutely spectacular Volkswagen Type 2 Single Cab that has been through a detailed eight step restoration process with over 2000 hours of labor. The photos of the process really tell the story on this car. The donor car started out being completely disassembled. It was then sandblasted down to bear metal, and proper replacement panels were welded in all areas of the car that were necessary. Once all the metalwork was completed the car went through a chemical treatment and was prepped for paint. Significant blocking and prepping was done in order to ensure a great paint job. While those processes were underway the electricians installed a new 12 volt wiring harness and the engine was taken apart and rebuilt. The brake lines and suspension were also gone through with a new master cylinder and steering box. After the car was painted new windows and rubbers were installed on every single window of the car. New carpeting, trim, seats, door panels, and headliner were also installed with a few spectacular custom wood finishes. The custom wood slats in the bed also add a complimentary touch to the matching wood varnish on the interior. Once the car was put back together it was tested on the road for several hundred kilometers. After it was received here at our shop here in Ohio we went through an additional road test and mechanical inspection. Do not miss out on this gorgeous vehicle that would take years to be replicated and is ready to go. All of these details have been complied into an extremely valuable set of complementary materials including an owners manual, photobook, pen drive, and formal restoration declaration. If there are any questions over the weekend please let me know.
