DT: 1974 Buick LeSabre Luxus Convertible

Up for auction is this 1974 Buick LeSabre Luxus Convertible finished in Burgundy over a matching Burgundy vinyl interior. The LeSabre represented Buick’s mid-level full-size sedan produced from 1959-2005. This fourth-generation two-door convertible version is offered in the rare 1974-only Luxus trim level and features the larger 455ci “Rocket” V8 engine as well as power-assisted steering, brakes, windows, seats, and convertible top. Currently under the care of its third owner in Canada, this classic 1974 LeSabre is being offered for auction with approximately 97k miles showing on the odometer.

This Buick comes finished in Burgundy with a white convertible soft top. For 1974, the LeSabre was updated with a revised vertical-barred grille, dual headlights with individual bezels, turn signals set within the front bumper, and widened horizontal taillights giving it a stronger, more modern appearance. The seller notes that a full paint correction has been carried out in the last 3 years, additional images are provided in the gallery. This LeSabre rides on factory 15” wheels which come dressed in proper whitewall steel-belted radial tires.

Inside, you will find a classic Buick interior appointed with Burgundy vinyl upholstery and woodgrain trim along the dashboard.  A revised instrument panel was introduced for 1974, and this Luxus also features power windows, power-adjustable front seats, courtesy lights, and a power-operated roof. The seller notes that all gauges and accessories function properly aside from the clock.

Power comes from a 455ci “Rocket” V8 engine which was factory rated at 245HP and 360 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a three-speed THM400 automatic transmission. This LeSabre also comes equipped with power steering and brakes giving it a more contemporary driving experience. The seller notes that routine service has been performed and that there are no outstanding maintenance items at this time.

This sale will include a spare tire and a clean title. Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to own a classic LeSabre Luxus Convertible.

@marunerbc This car would be for my son, who lives in Kenosha, WI. He's a car nut, minor collector, and as a kid he loved the Buick. Let me know if you get a quote that is under $1,500.

@dicksanderson Sorry it didn't work out, I hope she ends up with someone who appreciate her, it is a VERY good car.

Where about are you in the States? I can ask a friend of mine tomorrow who is in the transportation business how much he can ship it to for.

  • dicksanderson (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

Thanks. Makes sense for you. It is a great car and worth everything you're asking. Transportation and taxes kill it for me. BTW, reason for my interest: it is the IDENTICAL car to one I had in 1974 (exterior and interior colors, rallye wheels, top color), leased new; and traded it on a same-year 9-Pass Estate Wagon (growing family) in dark green with fake-wood sides, Electra 225 hub caps. Sorry we couldn't make this work. Regards.

@dicksanderson Thank you very much for your offer but, I already have a buyer here in Vancouver who offered 17.7K Canadian and I'm working with him to come up to 18K CDN, that way I get my money here and don't have to drive across the boarder. The best I can do is my original offer of $15,500 USD. Thank you again.

  • dicksanderson (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

I see this is still in deal tank. As mentioned before, shipping for $2,100 works against the asking price- for me. I would offer $14,500 now, again based on delivery to Blaine, WA. Thanks much for considering.

Good morning. i apologize, but i have to withdraw the offer. I received an updated quote to transport the car to Kenosha of $2,000 open, $3,000 closed. Just too far, too costly. I appreciate your considering my prior offers, and best wishes.

  • marunerbc (seller) 1 week, 5 daysago

@dicksanderson I will do it for $15,500 USD

  • dicksanderson (registered bidder) 1 week, 6 daysago

Question for the seller: If you can deliver the car to Blaine, WA, in August for $15,000, I will make that offer now. Let me know. Thanks. Dick

@marunerbc Thanks. Moving commercially requires the kind of documents I needed when I purchased my Lotus Europa- cost around $1800. Let's see when the auction ends where we are with the purchase price. Timing is not particularly important to me, so we might be OK to wait until the August date.

  • marunerbc (seller) 2 weeks, 1 dayago

@dicksanderson It can be moved commercially but, I can not drive it across myself.

  • dicksanderson (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 1 dayago

@marunerbc Thanks. Does this mean the car can't be moved until then?

  • marunerbc (seller) 2 weeks, 1 dayago

@dicksanderson US just announced today the the land boarder will continue to be closed to Canadians till August 21 at least.

  • dicksanderson (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 1 dayago

@marunerbc I am in contact with a shipper (which is aligned with PCarMarket. If we get this done, we would coordinate the pick-up at a location in Blaine that you would identify, and transfer the car. Let's see how this goes over the next day. Regards.

  • marunerbc (seller) 2 weeks, 2 daysago

@dicksanderson I'm 100% certain it can be licensed in the US, Americans are coming buying collector cars from BC every day.

  • dicksanderson (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 2 daysago

@PCARMARKET Ok, your listing requires clicking at the bottom of the e-mail listings from PCarmarket...to see ALL the listings. No problem. I will review and determine our interest. I need to check with the freight-forwarder that handled my recent purchase from Vancouver. In order to register that car I needed an EPA certificate and a 'registration' (not your title). I am not sure bringing the car across the boarder is sufficient to get it licensed here. Thanks again.

  • PCARMARKET 2 weeks, 2 daysago

@dicksanderson This car is most certainly LIVE and advertised in our daily email notifications. Thank you

  • dicksanderson (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 2 daysago

@marunerbc . Thanks for your note. Question: the car is not shown on the PCarMarket daily lists. Have you pulled it off the auction? Let me know. Thanks. Dick

  • marunerbc (seller) 2 weeks, 3 daysago

@dicksanderson To be 100% honest, I have not done anything to the car in the last 5 years other than oil change, it is driven 1,500-2,000 KM in the summer on an average year.
Last time was in 2016 when I did new breaks, transmission and transfer case oil changes, put in a new muffler (full all the way), and had the shop look at everything else. I then replaced the battery in 2019 and that is it however, she does NOT need any work, it drives very smoothly.
I can drive it across the boarder to Blaine Washington and sign the registration over and it's up to you from there on. Please let me know if this works.

  • dicksanderson (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 3 daysago

Great car. Seriously interested. Questions: what mechanical work does it need, if any. More importantly, would you agree to a landed-US purchase price. I just bought a car in Vancouver, and it was difficult to get it through customers, EPA certification and registration. I will appreciate any comments regarding this last point. Thank you.

    Does the car have AC?

  • marunerbc (seller) 2 weeks, 6 daysago

@Willy123 Please come see it to appreciate her, it in one of a kind in her condition.

  • Willy123 (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 6 daysago

@marunerbc I am in Vancouver. How much you are expecting for the car ?

  • marunerbc (seller) 2 weeks, 6 daysago

@Willy123 Had it for 7 years, since 2015, she was inspected by CIBC in order to get the Collector plates.

  • Willy123 (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 6 daysago

How long you had the car for ?

  • marunerbc (seller) 2 weeks, 6 daysago

    @Willy123 Yes

  • Willy123 (registered bidder) 2 weeks, 6 daysago

    This is BC car ?

  • marunerbc (seller) 3 weeksago

Drives like a charm, very smooth and quite, NO rust anywhere.
