We are pleased to offer this restored 1973 Datsun 240Z finished in the rare combination of Blue Metallic over a white interior.  Among the earliest of Nissan’s Datsun Z-models introduced to the U.S. market, this 240Z was purchased in Spokane, WA. by its current owner in 1980 and has been carefully looked after ever since. In June of 1982, the engine was fully rebuilt and upgraded with a genuine Datsun Competition cam kit among other performance parts, and paired with an upgraded 280Z 5-speed gearbox.  Just a few years after the engine rebuild, this Datsun was placed in proper dry storage before it was finally brought out in 2012 to undergo a full nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration.  Sporting its original colors as well as some tasteful upgrades and modifications, this outstanding 240Z is now being offered on behalf of its longtime owner out of Washington, accompanied by records dating back to the owner’s original purchase.

During the restoration in 2012, the car was placed on a rotisserie, fully disassembled, stripped, and refinished in its factory color Blue Metallic.  The underbody was also cleaned, prepped, and treated with a rubberized coating.  The seller notes that virtually every component of the car was either replaced or refurbished to as-new standards. A ceramic coating was recently applied, and the aftermarket front air dam and rear spoiler were previously added by the current owner.  The glass and chrome brightwork are said to have been preserved in very good condition.  This example rides on a set of aftermarket VTO wheels featuring blue center caps and polished outer lips.  The currently installed Bridgestone Potenza RE11 tires are said to be like-new.

Inside, the white interior has been refurbished with a new headliner, carpeting, and reupholstered front seats.  The original dashboard has been retained and exhibits a few small crack repairs, with one unaddressed crack remaining towards the center.  The original AM/FM radio remains in place and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

In 1982, the original L24 inline-six engine was fully rebuilt and fitted with a genuine Datsun Competition Slalom Cam Kit, upgraded PerTronix electronic ignition, and backdated 1972-spec carburetors that offer greater reliability and ease of tuning.  Other upgrades include a 280Z-spec 5-speed manual gearbox, Quickor sway bars, and Boge front strut inserts.  Maintenance carried out by the owner also includes new wheel bearings, new steering rack bushings and couplers, refurbished axle stub shafts, and refurbishment of the radiator and gas tank.  Records are included dating back to the current owner’s purchase.

This sale will include a collection of records, the original dealer plate frame, and a clean title.  This is a very special opportunity to own a thoroughly sorted Datsun 240Z in a rare color combination and with long-term ownership, do not miss out.

Hello…is this still up for sale?

  • zloversupreme 3 yearsago

@porscheklaus Sorry for the 11th hour questions. Heard about this car and just joined the auction. Thanks for the prompt reply. I also see an MSDS unit, tach converter, MSDS blaster coil, high amp self-regulating alternator, looks likes "Daves" electrical upgrade and all new suspension/steering bushings. Lots of cool stuff. This is gonna be a great daily driver for someone! Glad I jumped in.

@zloversupreme you are absolutely correct and I missed that it wasn't mentioned in tbe text. The car has data acquisition and readout. Very cool ! Thanks for pointing that out... appreciated!

@porscheklaus I see an Innovate wideband sensor, what appears to be a throttle position sensor (both under the hood latch mechanism) and possibly the Innovate data collection unit (mounted to the passenger kick panel). Is this working? And is there an AFR (air flow ratio) indicator installed anywhere? Thanks

At risk of pointing out the obvious.... should someone find a rust free early Z that simply runs and drives and THEN spent the $ to make the car this nice.... you'd need more money :) .... having said that.... y'all ain't too far away.... :) Best of luck....someone is going to end up with a very, very nice car. Happy bidding

@Fooshe I beilieve you are correct. I owned a 1971 that I bought used in 1972 that had A/C but was installed by the dealer. Had this same color car except with black interior. Great Car.

@porscheklaus My understanding is that no cars came with factory A/C to the US shores. Now I could be wrong (Just ask my wife), but I have never seen or heard of one.

  • porscheklaus (seller) 3 yearsago

One of you wanted to hear the car run. I've added a video for you. I also purposely drove over 2 sets of railroad tracks and on rather rough roads. The car is remarkably quiet, suspension is not bone jarring. No squeaks, no rattles.

Good morning, I have been asked to provide more photos, specifically of the engine bay, dash and chassis. Unfortunately , I do not have a hoist, best I can do on the chassis shots. The car was restored on a rotisserie, the photos that I do have show that pretty clearly. The dash is original and it was thought better to leave it and repair it than to replace it with a cheep aftermarket component. I was also asked for a cold start video... Hopefully these will be posted quickly.

@Paulblouin It is my understanding that there were few if any "factory" ac equipped cars for the US market. I hear there were dealer installed units available at the time.

Good morning all....I have had a request for additional photographs and I will be happy to oblige Is there anything in particular that anyone would care to see. Sorry, I don't have a hoist so chassis shots are difficult at best. There is NO RUST ANYWHERE on this car. Thanks !

@porscheklaus...I would simply get another clean valve cover and use it. Keep that cover for perhaps a show or when you just want a little bling. Not completely tragic, just my opinion. Some may think it is just what it needs...who know. That is what makes cars so enjoyable, you can make it what you want.

  • porscheklaus (seller) 3 yearsago

@Fooshe when yer right, yer right :) .... a quick media blast will take care of the color :)

  • Fooshe (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

Had on just like this in high school...I loved that car. Now if we could just do something about that blasphemy of a valve cover. The car is screaming for a "nissan 2400 ohc" raw aluminum version.

What a beautiful color combo. ? definitely will be watching this one.

I am proud to represent this car for its fastidious owner. A tough decision was made to market the car after 41 years of ownership, I think I'd have a tough time of that myself. The car runs and drives wonderfully. It is a little cold blooded cold which I think we can attribute to the "fine" fuels we are afforded today.....gotta love ethanol, right? :) I'd drive this car anywhere, right now. I'll make sure it is topped up for its new lucky custodian......
