Designed at Carrozzeria Ghia and assembled by De Tomaso in Modena, Italy, the Pantera debuted as an exotic mid-engine sports car at the 1970 New York Motor Show powered by a Ford Cleveland V8 and was sold by American Lincoln-Mercury dealers from 1972 to 1975. This 1973 example has been cared for by three owners and benefits from a recent investment of over $21k including custom 17” forged aluminum wheels, a Holley Ultra Double Pumper carburetor, ceramic-coated headers, double-adjustable coilover shocks, a Wilwood big brake kit, and polyurethane suspension bushings. This iconic Italian-American sports car is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas.
The Pantera was designed by Carrozzeria Ghia's American-born designer Tom Tjaarda and features a low-slung and wide profile with sculpted body lines, wide rear haunches, pop-up headlights, quad exhaust outlets, and flying buttress C-pillars flanking the rear engine cover. The car is said to have been refinished in black under prior ownership and was recently fitted with a set of 17” forged aluminum Campagnolo-style wheels measuring 8” wide in front and 11” wide in the rear. The car rides on a set of older Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The interior features black leather upholstery with red contrast stitching covering the custom door panels and Daytona-style bucket seats. Accessories include a three-spoke Lecarra steering wheel, a gated shifter assembly, Veglia Borletti instrument dials, black carpet floor mats with red De Tomaso Pantera logos, lap belts, a heater, and an aftermarket stereo. The seller notes that the floors were lowered beneath the seats under prior ownership to better accommodate taller drivers.
A 351ci Ford Cleveland V8 delivers power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed ZF manual transaxle. An upgraded aluminum radiator was installed under prior ownership and the engine was recently fitted with a Holley Ultra Double Pump carburetor, ceramic-coated headers, and a new throttle cable. Other recent items include the installation of Aldan American Aluminum double-adjustable coilover shocks, new springs, polyurethane suspension bushings, a Wilwood big brake kit, and StopFlex stainless steel braided brake lines. The seller notes an oil and filter service was recently completed as well.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a car cover, a battery charger, some documentation, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Extremely well-sorted Pantera with nice upgrades.”

@TheVintageCarGuy We have had them both ways , but most of the time they dont have them at all , feel free to install them any way you like if you buy it , thanks.
@Lambogas Beautiful car. Sorry, don't mean to seem nit picky, but can you address what's going on with the wipers? First, they ride annoyingly high on the windshield. Second, unlike every other Pantera I have seen ( that still has it's wipers installed) they are pointing to the passengers side in the off position rather than the drivers side.

@1958bret Everything you are seeing is light surface and will clean up easily , we didnt want to mess with it to appear we were trying to hide something , it is very minor and I will be happy to touch that up if somebody wants me to. The bottoms of the doors are solid , I am up loading a video from underneath. And that isnt rust by the vin tag , I wiped it off good with a micro fiber towel and that is actually orange paint , the car was orig. orange.
Bid in the amount of $45,000
I see some rust around the vin tag, and a few other areas , Is it just light surface rust ? How far dose

@bolson As you can see the transaxle has been polished and the engine bay is shiny black so it has definitely been out.
@bolson I do not have any reciepts for the engine work but it is very strong , will get a video posted. It had a lot of work performed by Canepa in Northern Calif. , not sure if they painted the block or not. What you are seeing in the frunk is a stereo amp.
One of the most beautiful Panteras I've seen on auction, and I've been watching them since 7/2021. My mind is racing to figure out how I might afford it as I'm sure it will surpass my comfort zone. Too bad, cause its relatively close to me here in So. Miss. But I have a couple questions: 1. The engine is painted black, meaning it has probably been removed and possibly worked over. Any details on that? 2. Can you explain the upholstered item in the frunk with the opening through which you can read "Made in Germany?" I've never seen that before. Thank you, and good luck with the sale.
Bid in the amount of $10,000
Hello everyone and welcome , any questions please let us know . This is a very beautiful and imposing Pantera.
