Factory finished in Silver Metallic over a Blue Leather to Sample interior, this 1973 Porsche 911S Targa was also generously optioned with Sport Seats and Koni shock absorbers. It is one of only 925 examples produced for the model year and is among the last of the long hood (F-Body) 911s. Said to have been restored under prior ownership, this 911S Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California accompanied by maintenance records and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
This Targa was ordered in Silver Metallic (936) and features 911S-specific trim including a front spoiler and aluminum rocker moldings. Other equipment includes U.S. specifications bumperettes, black lettering, a chrome driver’s side mirror, removable roof panel, and 15” Fuchs wheels dressed in Michelin tires. The car is said to have been completely refinished during an older restoration and the paint is described to be in very good overall condition.
The cabin was factory optioned with Blue Leather to Sample (99) upholstery as well as highly desirable Sport Seats. The optional air-conditioning system has been removed and an upgraded black leather steering wheel has been fitted along with custom Coco floor mats and a modern Porsche Classic stereo.
Power comes from a fuel-injected 2.4L flat-six engine which was previously rebuilt with new JE pistons as well as an upgraded Carrera chain tensioner kit, Turbo lower valve covers, a 964 oil pump, and more. A corresponding invoice is provided in the gallery along with some older maintenance records.
This sale will include a clean title (lien), a toolkit, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and maintenance records.

Just noticed aluminum trailing arms in photo 121. Porsche converted from steel to aluminum TAs in 1974. Not a negative; IMHO an upgrade.

Paint looks to be in great shape and no visible rust. Is this original paint or was it was restored as well? Non-galvanized (I’m assuming) given the model year, correct?

@opener I can send photos of tire date codes, engine serial number and underneath dash later today.
In reference to my comment about the 2.2L pistons. The pistons and cylinders are the same for the 2.2L and 2.4L engines. The increased stroke is what provided the increased displacement. I could not find the part number on the JE piston website to determine the compression ratio of the pistons used in the rebuild.

Beautiful car. I owned one of these in the late 70s. Silver w/black leather. I am curious about the 2.2L pistons that were listed on the engine overhaul invoice. No mention of whether this is the original numbers matching engine. Also, I like the period correct tires. What are the date codes? Is there a photo of the under dash area where the a/c was removed? How was the hole filled? Thanks!
