Representing the final year of the classic long-hood F-Body design, this 1973 Porsche 911S is one of only 925 Targa versions produced for the model year and comes finished in Ivory over Brown leather. The car spent its early years in Washington before being purchased by an officer at the Monterey Naval Base in California. It was acquired by the current owner in 2019 who has kept the car in a private climate-controlled facility and performed several services including a rebuilt MFI pump, distributor, new batteries, a new muffler, spark plugs, valve adjustments, and more. Retaining its original 2.4-liter engine and numbers matching 5-speed manual transaxle, this highly collectible 911S Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Colorado accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
This 911S came factory-finished in Ivory (46) and is distinguished as an “S” model by its deep front spoiler, aluminum rocker panel covers, and anodized gold rear badging. Equipment includes a brushed stainless steel Targa bar, a removable black roof panel, a heated glass rear window, a polished driver’s side mirror, black horn grilles, chrome door handles, European-spec Cibie H4 headlights, and restored 15” Fuchs alloy wheels dressed in new Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The seller notes the body was stripped to bare metal and refinished in its original color at some point under previous ownership along with the installation of new rubber seals and gaskets. The finish is described to be in excellent overall condition, detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, you will find a highly original Brown leather interior with a light natural patina. The seller notes the carpeting has been replaced and the original dashboard is uncracked with a correct center speaker grille in place. The steering wheel has been reupholstered and new period-style coco floor mats are installed in the footwells. The seller confirms all gauges and accessories are fully functional.
Equipped with a Bosch mechanical fuel injection (MFI) system, the 2.4-liter flat-six engine was originally rated at 190 HP and 158 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transaxle and stopping power comes from fixed 2-piston brakes and ventilated discs at each corner. Since the current owner’s purchase in 2019, the car underwent major service at Akers Porsche Service in Seattle, including a complete MFI fuel injection pump rebuild, distributor rebuild, new batteries, a new exhaust muffler, valve adjustments, and new spark plugs. Other recent services include rebuilding all four brake calipers, new brake hoses, a new air filter, fuel injector cleaning, new battery ground straps, tie rod ends, a new fuel filter, a new alternator belt, and suspension alignment. A cylinder compression test was also performed with the following results: 1/135, 2/140, 3/135, 4/140, 5/140, 6/140.
This sale will include a complete reproduction toolkit, a spare tire, a period-correct Bilstein jack, an owner's manual, the original sales brochure, a technical spec sheet, an MFI repair and tuning manual, a Porsche COA, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This 1973 Porsche 911 S Targa is finished in the original color of Ivory, paint code (132), with Brown leather. This is the 336th 911 S Targa produced of the 925 total for the 1973 model year. The car retains its numbers matching, type 911/53 motor; Engine no *6330794* with Bosch MFI fuel injection. Original factory options included; US Equipment, Tinted Glass All Around, and Dunlop Tires. The early history of this 911S is not well known other than it was in Washington State early on until approximately 2011 when it was brought to CA and owned by an officer at the Monterey Naval base. The car was acquired by a WA Porsche collector in early 2018 and has been stored in his large private warehouse. In 2019 the current owner took possession and the car has been stored in a private climate-controlled facility as he has enjoyed it and sorted through some more needed repairs. A cylinder compression test was also performed with the following results: 1/135, 2/140, 3/135, 4/140, 5/140, 6/140. A new set of 5 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires have just been installed along with a fresh suspension alignment. Another $20k has been spent by the current owner on fully sorting and rehabbing the electrical wiring system on the vehicle. This is a no-questions-asked, nothing to hide, investment-grade collectible automobile. The body was stripped to bare metal and painted to a high standard at some point. New seals and body gaskets were fitted at that time. All panels and floors are in good condition with no known rust present. The car is finished in show-quality Ivory paint, just as it originally rolled off the assembly line! The car’s beautiful Fuchs wheels are beautifully restored, and the silver Targa bar looks amazing in contrast to the creamy, dreamy paint scheme. The headlamps are European-spec Cibie H4 units and all trim is correct. The original brown leather interior is very nice showing a lovely light patina. The dash is crack-free and features the correct center speaker grill. A functioning, original type Blaupunkt AM/FM radio has just been sourced and installed. The carpets, door panels, door pockets, and Targa top are all in excellent condition. The steering wheel leather has been recovered and new period brown/beige coco floor mats fitted, providing a cool vintage vibe. All gauges function correctly. The heater blows hot with all fan speeds operating well, wipers, and lights are also in good working order. Included with the sale is a complete, new reproduction tool kit, spare tire, correct original Bilstein jack, owner's manual, original sales brochure, technical spec sheet, MFI repair and tuning manual, Porsche COA which verifies this car as numbers matching, and correct original colors. Much has been spent on this 911S to ensure that it is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. The car drives excellently, and the unique color combination compliments the 1970s era very nicely.”

@targahawk wheile I don't disagree that this is not a 100 point concours restoration I disagree that the car has any serious flaws. This car sold for mid 140k price point a few years ago before more money and work was put into it so it is and has been a $100k plus car for a long time. We do not have an exact date or time frame when the car was taken down to bare metal and redone but it was at least 5+ years ago. Thanks for your eagle eye input I will just leave it there.
There are some serious issues to be addressed on this that haven't really been tended to. The front end of this car is not right. The passenger side fender is not flush, leaving door and hood gaps very poor. Picture 55 shows paint missing, and an overspray drip where the fender meet the orange lens (which is cracked). The underside of the hood is bubbling. The original VIN tag and paint code tags have been poorly taped or painted over and cleaned back up after respray. Picture 155 shows paint cracking and buckles in the inside of the decklid.. You say this car has had a full restoration "at some point", but what kind of shape was it in prior to the work? How much rust was present? Did a reputable shop do this work?
A lot to be answered before considering this to be a $100k car, let alone stating its worth $200k..

@opener thx for being active in the auction. Sorry for late reply was traveling to Miami and back for a music festival. To answer a few of your questions. Yes the front bumper is a FG replacement piece. Calipers are also new and were delivered in that gold anodized and they were left unpainted. Not sure on emblems gold or not is correct maybe someone else has input . Yes there are a book of papers and receipts that come with the car. I can not say one way or another on the transmission. Again I defer to anyone with more knowledge than I have. If you can see in my pictures where a number is supposed to be and it's not there then that should answer your question. Hope to still see lots of progress bids tomorrow. Remember S Coupes have been trading at over $200k on other auctions and sites. This is still way under market at this point. Looking forward to what tomorrow brings.

Great solid looking Targa. Love the ivory. It appears that the transmission number has been ground off. Can I assume it is a replacement transmission? Also, are the front calipers original? They seem to have a gold finish and look pretty new. Finally, When I owned a 73S Targa many years ago, the 911S and Porsche lettering on the deck lid were black. I still have the black 911S from the deck of my 73S (would look great on this one).

@aircooledguyks I went back and checked our shop invoice and we did do a leak down. Numbers are as follows: 1 7% 2 8% 3 8% 4 9% 5 8% 6 8%. Please also see the recent shop bill of $4500 getting the car ready for sale. Picture uploaded.

@aircooledguyks never noticed it sitting one way or the other. Leakdown numbers were provided in the listing. Very very strong for age and miles. Would almost assume engine rebuilt at some point but don't have receipts or verbal history on that.
Beautiful Targa, a rare bird indeed. Driver's side seems a shade lower than passenger side, is that just an adjustment that's needed? Also, would you have leak-down figures?
