This 1973 Porsche 914 is said to have been the subject of a complete restoration carried out approximately 10 years ago including a refinish in Rally Yellow. Equipped with an upgraded 2.4L engine paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle, this 1973 example is now being offered for auction by its reported third owner out of New Hampshire.

This 914 is said to have been previously refinished in Rally Yellow contrasted by a black Targa top and chrome lower bumper trim. It has been customized with Porsche script along the rocker panels and rides on 15” alloy wheels dressed in Goodyear VR60 tires from 2013 that are reported to have 90% tread remaining. The seller notes some paint imperfections including signs of touch-up on the middle of the driver-side door, a larger area on the passenger-side rear fender, and some clear coat bubbling on the rear trunk closer to the passenger-side. A full paint correction and exterior detailing are said to have been carried out in preparation for sale along with refinishing of all four wheels within the last month.

The cabin is appointed with black vinyl upholstery as well as new matching carpets and door panels. Equipment includes a glovebox, manual window rollers, a four-spoke steering wheel, and an aftermarket stereo. The seller states a plastic dashboard cover has been fitted and the condition of the original dashboard beneath is unknown.

Power comes from an air-cooled 2.4-liter stroker flat-four engine that sends power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller adds that the fuel injection system was removed and replaced with dual Weber 40 carburetors. Noteworthy service items are said to include fluids changed and an oil change within the last month along with an emergency brake adjustment, a new fuel filter, several new fuel lines, and draining of the fuel system.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thanks for checking out my auction. I picked this car up a few months ago. I have owned many 914's and this is one of the best driving ones yet. Just a great original 914.”

Good morning to everybody watching and bidding on my 914. This a great all around solid car and with the upgraded engine it’s a blast to drive. It’s probably pushing around 165+ horsepower and she will break the tires loose if you wanted to. If you were to build this car/engine today it would cost $25,000 for just the engine work alone and with a fair restoration even more. I know it doesn’t have much service history but the service is all up-to-date now and ready for many more miles of fun. Like I said in my last comment if the car bids higher than $20,000 I will put brand new tires of your choice installed on the car. Whoever wins this car will own one of the fastest 914‘s on the planet. Good luck and happy bidding.

  • vwprok37 (seller) 1 yearago

Hey everyone, just under six hours left to the auction. I wanted to offer if the bids go over $20,000 I will put new tires on the car of your choice.

@harveyriff The car is to old for a carfax report. It has 108,608 miles on it.

  • harveyriff (registered bidder) 1 yearago

    What about the CarFax.

Especially because this is a five digit odometer, do you know the total miles on this car.

  • pawerks37 1 yearago

Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know that I have added many new photos and videos to the listing. Make sure you really zoom in and check out how fast this car accelerates. Its absolute rocket ship and blast to drive. Also I have done a few more things to the car not listed in the description. I installed a brand new battery, all new fuel lines, spark plugs, cap rotor and points, adjusted the vales with new valve cover gaskets. Check out the pictures of the compression test which was very consistent across all cylinders.

  • vwprok37 (seller) 1 yearago

@harveyriff The car is to old for a carfax report. Not a 17 digit vin number. The carfax reports are only available from 1981 and later.

  • harveyriff (registered bidder) 1 yearago

    Is their a CarFax report.

@maimone Hi, this color Rallye Yellow has a hint of green in it. When they painted this car they stripped all the green paint off and primed and painted it yellow for the color change. So you are not seeing the old green paint through the yellow. Thank for the question.

  • maimone (registered bidder) 1 yearago

I know you didn't paint it. but the paint seems weak. like i can still see green though it?.

  • pawerks37 1 yearago

So I found one the old ads McShack was talking about. So it seams to be confirmed this car has a 2.4l big bore stroker engine!! I have sent out a message both to the person I got the car from and the owner before that to see if I can get any paperwork to confirm this further.

  • pawerks37 1 yearago

@Bruce914 I will get the undercarriage pictures up asap. I sent them over today but they didn't get uploaded. I think it will be Monday before we will see them on here. I will tell you though this is a very solid car with no rust. I am also going to put together a driver video this weekend. This car rips and I hope I can show that in the video.

  • Bruce914 (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Did I miss the engine and underneath pics? Looks good so far - would love to see a driving video.

  • pawerks37 1 yearago

@MCShack Wow! This is great information! I knew this car had a hopped up engine. It is definitely a rocket ship. I have driven probably 20+ 914's one with a 2056cc engine and this is by far the fastest. The add you quoted matches to a T. It has a sport suspension, stainless steal brake lines and I even found what was left of a carb rebuild kit in the trunk. A long with the carb kit I found a 2.4l badge and now I know why. This is the real deal 914 outlaw 2.4l!! Any way Mcshack you can get me this info on this car you found. I'm sure it will help the bidders and me with the sale. Thanks so much for your knowledge on this car.

This car was advertised for sale in 2016 as a 1973 Porsche 914 2.4L Flat-Four. The color was yellow then also, but the Karmann tag indicates that this car would have been Zambezi Green (Sambesigrün) (L64K).

Here is what I could find on the engine rebuild from ads in previous sales: "1973 Porsche 914 Base Description: Good driver condition Porsche 914-4 outlaw with a 2.4L big bore engine. It is a rocket ship and starts right up. Has sport suspension. Professionally built 2.4L stroker with dual webers. (Was a 1.7 stock), engine was built for previous owner. Stainless steel brake lines. New gaskets in the webers, new fuel pump."

And this was from another 2016 ad: "Clean title, good tires. Fast, fun little mid-engined air-cooled targa top Rare AMCO full center console Was painted yellow about 10 years ago by the previous owner who owned the 914/4 since '89."

  • vwprok37 (seller) 1 yearago

@maimone I am sure the cam was changed as the engine pulls very hard and has way more power then stock. I have driven stock fuel injected 1.7's and this car is way quicker. I do believe that the engine has a bigger bore with a cam but can't be certain. I have no paperwork on the engine. I was told by the pervious owner that the engine had been redone before he got the car. Probably around the time of the restoration.

  • vwprok37 (seller) 1 yearago

@Azguy238 I will put up pictures of the engine compartment in the next few hours. The Car was green from the factory. The hell hole is in perfect conditon no rust or rot. I will put up pictures. Also battery tray is original and only has some surface rust. This is a very sold car.

  • vwprok37 (seller) 1 yearago

@Treksman2 Hi, I will put pictures up of the compression test in the next few hours. I do believe the the cam and some engine work has been done. The car pulls very hard. One of the quickest 914's I have driven. I will also put up a driving video today.

  • maimone (registered bidder) 1 yearago

I take it that the cam was not changed with the carbs?. was the car green at one time?. pics of the problem areas will help the bidding.

  • Azguy238 (registered bidder) 1 yearago

Pictures of engine compartment and hell hole?

  • Treksman2 1 yearago

Was a compression check done after the carburetor swap? I know thats not typical but a good idea. Power curve will hp will be different as well, it would be nice to see difference.
